Chapter 4: Come, Come—Into Big Sister’s Arms
Reflected in the river was the face of a young girl, beautiful like a snow lotus from the Heavenly Mountains. Her temperament was pure and untainted, clean and ethereal. A pair of lovely eyes brimmed with limpid, autumn-like water—clear to the bottom, without the slightest trace of impurity. Her nose bridge was straight and slightly upturned, the tip smooth and delicate, almost catching a faint highlight where the sunlight touched it. Her lips were like peach blossom petals, slightly parted into a small slit, faintly revealing a soft pink tongue within.
She was the kind of woman so clean and beautiful that people would hesitate to approach her, afraid that getting too close might sully that dust-free aura she carried.
Nan Xun blinked at the girl in the water, and the girl in the water blinked back.
“Alright, alright, stop admiring yourself and hurry up and think about how you’re going to complete your mission—”
The Void Beast’s words abruptly cut off halfway through.
“Little Eight? Little Eight?” Nan Xun called several times, but there was no response.
Muttering in confusion, Nan Xun looked around but didn’t sense anything amiss.
Noticing that both her hair and face were splattered with blood, Nan Xun squatted down, dipped her long hair into the water, tilted her head, and used her fingers as a comb. As she washed and smoothed her hair, she pondered her situation.
Since her target was to redeem the Demon King, she would definitely have to get close to him. The political marriage happening now was the perfect opportunity. Fortunately, she had only been gone for one day—she could still find an excuse for the elopement attempt.
After washing her long hair, Nan Xun scooped up a handful of water and splashed it onto her face.
Droplets rolled down her cheeks one by one, refracting the sunlight into a crystalline glow, like pearls slipping down her skin.
Suddenly, she heard a sound.
Nan Xun turned her head to look.
Not far away, beneath a large tree, a long-eared rabbit was staring straight at her without blinking.
The rabbit had a pair of blood-red eyes—dark and profound, exuding a bone-chilling, gloomy aura.
Nan Xun didn’t notice any of that. Her heart was completely melted by the sight of the fluffy spirit beast.
Long-eared rabbits were among the lowest-ranking spirit beasts. They were herbivores and posed no threat to Nan Xun whatsoever. Moreover, this little creature was covered in soft fur and looked incredibly adorable.
Lifting her skirt slightly, Nan Xun walked over lightly and quietly, then squatted down and stared at the long-eared rabbit eye to eye.
Surprisingly, the rabbit didn’t flee. It stayed where it was, waiting for the girl to approach.
“Little bunny, did you get lost?” Nan Xun coaxed with a warm smile. “Come, come—into big sister’s arms. I’ll take you home, okay?”
As she spoke, she reached out and picked up the long-eared rabbit.
The rabbit’s body stiffened slightly. Where no one could see, a flash of bloodthirsty, violent killing intent flickered through its crimson beast pupils.
“Little Eight, Little Eight, can I keep a pet? This long-eared rabbit is just too cute. But don’t worry—I still love you the most. You’re the cutest,” Nan Xun asked the Void Beast in her heart.
There was no response.
Nan Xun took that as silent approval and happily lifted the long-eared rabbit high.
“Little bunny, how about the two of us relying on each other from now on, huh?”
The long-eared rabbit ignored her, seemingly unable to understand her words. It simply stared at her with those blood-red beast eyes, gazing at her coldly and faintly.
Nan Xun hadn’t really expected it to understand anyway. She just wanted a pet with little to no intelligence to listen to her chatter. This place was unfamiliar, Little Eight wasn’t responding, and she was afraid she’d die of boredom before even completing her mission.
She gently stroked the little creature’s long ears and couldn’t help leaning forward to rub her cheek against its face.
Haha—so soft, so comfortable. She had herself a living pillow now.
The long-eared rabbit’s ears drooped slightly, and its beast pupils lowered as well. Deep in its eyes, an uncontrollable, bloodthirsty ferocity churned and surged violently beneath the surface.
