Chapter 35: Holy Shit—You’re Freaking Pregnant
Seeing the dense hatred and killing intent in his eyes, Nan Xun couldn’t help but sneer. “You hate me? Lord Heize, aren’t you strange? If you hadn’t tried to be clever and deliberately provoked Xue Ming, things wouldn’t have ended like this. You’re the real culprit here—the one who deserves to die most is you!”
Nan Xun stood up and advanced toward him step by step. “You used the bracelet Xue Ming gave me to save your own life—don’t you feel ashamed?”
Heize staggered back several steps and collapsed onto the blood-soaked ground. He spread open his right hand, staring blankly at the blood-bead bracelet in his palm, now shattered to pieces.
Nan Xun walked up to him and, without mercy, kicked him hard in the chest, sending him coughing up another mouthful of blood.
Looking down at him from above, her voice was icy cold. “I really want to stab you to death. But judging by your current sorry state, you probably won’t live much longer anyway. I don’t want to dirty my hands.”
After giving him one last glance, Nan Xun mounted the golden-winged roc and left, abandoning the half-dead man lying in a pool of blood.
“You seem like a completely different person now. I’m really not used to it,” the Void Beast suddenly said.
Nan Xun’s expression was indifferent. “It’s been more than ten years. Spend long enough around ink and you’re bound to turn black. I’ve picked up Xue Ming’s mercurial temper.”
Void Beast: …
It was still uneasy. For a moment, it even felt that the carefree Nan Xun it knew was fake—the Nan Xun who joked and bickered with it every day was also fake. It was as if there was another Nan Xun living deep inside her, and that one was the real her.
This was seriously unsettling.
“Little Eight, what was that blood contract Heize mentioned?” Nan Xun suddenly asked.
The Void Beast snapped back to attention and replied, “Probably some kind of contract. Isn’t it popular in this world for humans and beasts to form master–servant contracts or equal contracts? Anyway, once someone dies, all those annoying contracts disappear into nothing. No need to worry.”
After leaving the battlefield, Nan Xun found a scenic, tranquil place. She personally dug a pit, buried Xue Ming’s scales inside, and erected a blank stele.
Along the way, one human and one beast talked quite a bit. Little Eight finally found the familiar Nan Xun again and felt less unsettled.
“Little Eight, do you think Xue Ming self-detonated his beast core because of me?” Nan Xun asked, looking at the blank stele.
The Void Beast immediately snorted. “Are you stupid? Does the Demon King look like the kind of hopeless romantic who’d die for love?”
Nan Xun was silent for a moment, then said, “It kind of does. After Heize threw my bloodstained clothes at him, he self-detonated his beast core. If not because of me, then why?”
The Void Beast said disdainfully, “He didn’t self-detonate because of you. It was because Heize and the Azure Dragon had set up the Ancient Blood-Fiend Grievance Formation—the one your so-called father personally handed over to them. That formation is incredibly powerful. Once activated, the Demon King would’ve had only a slim chance of survival. But you know how deranged that guy is—if he’s going to die, he’s dragging everyone else down with him. So he blew up his beast core.”
“Really not because of me?” Nan Xun asked hesitantly.
“How big do you think your face is? Don’t forget—later on, the Demon King’s malice value shot back up to 100. At that point, his head was full of thoughts about destroying the world. Who the hell would still remember you?”
Nan Xun gave an “oh” and didn’t pursue the matter further.
“It’s getting late. We should be on our way,” the Void Beast reminded her.
Nan Xun was taken aback. “On our way to where?”
“Are you dumb? To the next world.”
“Wait. Let me wash up and get dressed first.”
The Void Beast practically wanted to kneel to her. “You’re about to die and go to the next world—why the hell are you still washing up and dressing nicely?”
“You don’t understand. If I’m going to die, I want to die beautifully.”
The Void Beast let out a dry laugh and let her do as she pleased. It could sense that Nan Xun was in a bad mood.
Nan Xun took a petal bath to wash away the stench of blood. Her jet-black, glossy hair was also groomed until it lay smooth and soft.
She gazed at her reflection in the lake for a long time, then asked Little Eight, “How do I look now? My outfit and bearing?”
“Beautiful. Perfect,” the Void Beast replied, secretly rolling its eyes inside the bracelet.
Nan Xun found a flower field so dreamlike it looked unreal, struck a pose of chaotic elegance, and waited until red petals had scattered all over her white dress. Only then did she say to the Void Beast, “Alright, Little Eight. Let’s head to the next world.”
The Void Beast thought to itself: Finally done with this ordeal.
The Void Beast began to work its power.
Huh? Holy shit—what’s going on?!
Seeing that Little Eight hadn’t moved for ages, Nan Xun grew puzzled. She’d been holding this aesthetically perfect pose for so long that her limbs were about to go stiff, okay?
“Little Eight, hurry it up,” Nan Xun urged.
The Void Beast snapped irritably, “I want to hurry too, but the problem is—I can’t pull your soul out anymore!”
Nan Xun let out a startled “Huh?” and said blankly, “Why?”
The Void Beast sneered. “Why? Ask yourself. Did you take something you weren’t supposed to? I told you long ago that when leaving, you can’t carry anything from this world on you. Did you treat my words like a fart in the wind?”
Nan Xun thought for a moment, then suddenly cried out, “Ah!” She raised her hand. “Could it be because of this storage ring on my finger?”
The Void Beast roared, “Then hurry up and throw it away!”
Nan Xun was a bit reluctant. “Can’t I really wear it when I die? Anyway, my soul can’t take it with me.”
The Void Beast ground its teeth. “No!”
Nan Xun sighed regretfully and took off the storage ring Xue Ming had given her.
“What’s going on? Why can’t I still extract your soul?” the Void Beast exclaimed in shock, then said suspiciously, “Did you take something else?”
“Nothing else,” Nan Xun said. After a pause, “Does clothing count?”
The Void Beast pondered. “I’m not sure. How about… you try stripping naked?”
Nan Xun: …
In the end, Nan Xun obviously didn’t actually strip naked. Before finding the cause, she temporarily returned to the Zui Li family.
By then, news of the battlefield’s devastation had already spread across the entire Silver River Continent. Grief blanketed the land.
When Nan Xun returned to the Zui Li family, she heard cries everywhere.
To eradicate the Demon King, humans and divine beasts had united in hatred against a common enemy. Anyone with ability had gone to the battlefield. As the foremost of the five great families, the Zui Li clan had led by example—among the younger generation, anyone with even a bit of skill had gone to fight. And now, all those people and beasts had been reduced to ashes.
Nan Xun returned to her small courtyard and set up restrictions, allowing no one to approach except her mother.
She stayed holed up in her courtyard, studying with Little Eight the reason she couldn’t leave this world.
A month later, the Void Beast suddenly shouted, “Holy shit—I finally know why!”
Nan Xun, who was eating sour fruit, jumped in fright. “Why?”
The Void Beast practically roared, “You’re still asking why? Lower your head and look at that waist of yours, fat as a barrel!”
Nan Xun froze. “Isn’t it just that I gained a couple of sizes? Why are you getting so mad?”
The Void Beast cried out, “Fat my ass! You’re pregnant! And already six whole months along! You’re carrying a child from this world—of course you can’t leave!”
