Chapter 13: A Scare—She Flirted with the Demon King
The group of demon beasts in the hall looked at one another, utterly confused as to why the Demon King had suddenly begun muttering to himself. But when they inadvertently caught sight of that smile at the corner of his lips, their hearts jolted, and not one of them dared to speak another word.
When was the last time the Demon King had worn such a smile?
It seemed to have been when he had personally swallowed the previous Demon King alive.
…
When Lu Sui and the other three heard Nan Xun’s words, they were no longer surprised.
Don’t be fooled by how innocent, pure, and harmless this girl looked—there was no telling what bold, outrageous things she might say. What made it even harder to reproach her was that she spoke such words with an utterly innocent expression and eyes so clear and guileless.
They immediately felt that it must be their own minds that were too dirty, projecting filth where none existed.
No matter what Nan Xun did or said, once the four of them met those eyes—clean as a mountain stream—they couldn’t bring themselves to say a single harsh word.
“Ahem… Xunxun, the Demon King is very busy with official matters. Try to be understanding,” Zi Ling explained.
Nan Xun’s head drooped at once. In her heart, she asked the Void Beast, “Little Eight, I’m both happy and worried. If the Demon King ignores me, my life is safe for now—but if he never comes to see me, what about my mission? How am I supposed to help you reform the Demon King, how am I supposed to cleanse that pitch-black heart of his?”
The Void Beast didn’t respond.
Nan Xun let out a long sigh. The road ahead was long and arduous indeed.
“Since we’re bored anyway, how about we play hide-and-seek?” Seeing how sad and dejected she looked, Lu Sui tried to distract her.
Nan Xun had long since changed out of that sultry bridal gown and put on her favorite white dress, spotless and pure, without a speck of dust.
At the moment, however, her eyes were covered with a strip of Hong Chou. White adorned with red—it had a charm of its own.
The silk had been tied by Lu Sui, and that girl had tied it especially tight. Nan Xun couldn’t see even the slightest glimmer of light.
To be honest, entertainment in ancient times was really scarce—especially in this primordial era of humans, divine beasts, and demon beasts. At most, they could play hide-and-seek, chase butterflies, or catch birds and the like. Nan Xun was so bored she was practically growing mold, so even a simple game of hide-and-seek had her excited.
Nan Xun stretched out her hands and felt around.
Some naughty girl poked her in the waist, another brushed her small hand.
“You naughty girls, daring to flirt with me like this. When I catch you, I’ll plant a big kiss on you and see if you still dare!” Nan Xun laughed as she threatened.
At first, the laughter and chatter continued nonstop. But at some point, the air around them suddenly went still. Nan Xun sensed something was off and was just about to rip off the blindfold when she heard footsteps.
Her lips curved into a smile. “You think staying quiet means I won’t know where you are?”
As soon as she finished speaking, she lunged forward, wrapping her arms around the person directly in front of her. Then she puckered her lips and kissed them, even making a loud smack.
However—
That kiss didn’t land on the person’s cheek, but on… their chin.
“Hiss—”
Several sharp intakes of breath sounded around them. A chill instantly spread through the air, freezing people to the bone.
Nan Xun’s heart skipped violently.
If she still didn’t realize that the person she was holding was a man, then she would truly be an idiot. But that whole sequence of actions had been completely uncontrollable—by the time she sensed something was off, her lips had already puckered and gone in.
“Little Eight, Little Eight, I’m finished! This person is ninety percent likely the Demon King—I, I actually flirted with him!”
After all, besides the legendary bloodthirsty and brutal Demon King, who else could possibly come and go freely in this place?
