Chapter 158: The Freedom-Loving Black Sesame and Chip Implantation
After taking the photo, Su Tao wasted no time heading to the office building to handle various affairs and continue self-studying management knowledge.
Before the end of the workday, Qi Yunlan came to her, looking hesitant.
“Boss, Xiong Tai might not last much longer. He already had two deep wounds on his face, and the people from Old Station didn’t treat him properly, causing him to lose an eye. The wounds got infected and started festering.
Now that he’s in Taoyang, Black Sesame scratches him every time it sees him. Since it’s summer and he’s wearing less, there’s barely a good spot left on his body. Blood drips everywhere he walks. Today, I sent him to take out the trash, and a tenant reported that he collapsed into the garbage heap unconscious. He was just fished out, barely breathing.”
Su Tao remained indifferent. “Don’t be fooled by him. He might just be playing dead to avoid work. Mutants don’t die so easily.”
Then she leaned out of the window and called for Black Sesame. In no time, the little cat ran inside.
She told Qi Yunlan, “If he keeps pretending to be dead, let Black Sesame continue scratching him until he gets up.”
Then she flicked Black Sesame’s head and said, “That’s enough. From now on, unless I say otherwise, you’re not allowed to scratch him. Otherwise, you’ll be grounded.”
Black Sesame tilted its head as if it understood and let out a small meow.
Qi Yunlan was amazed. “This cat is becoming a spirit! Got it, I’ll go now.”
After dinner, Su Tao focused on rebuilding the clinic.
She tore down the old one entirely and rebuilt it according to the design that Old Mei had created.
Luckily, the system allowed her to reclaim undamaged building materials and furniture for their full value, so the reconstruction didn’t cost much.
After three hours of hard work, she stood at the clinic entrance, satisfied with the result.
The main colors of the clinic matched the apartment buildings, keeping everything uniform. The only distinguishing mark was a medical cross sign.
The clinic had one floor for now, with two entrances—one for emergencies and one for general consultations.
The emergency entrance led directly to a fully equipped emergency room.
The consultation entrance first led to the nurse’s station. Since there weren’t many patients yet, she planned to have Chen Xi help out as a temporary nurse.
Behind the nurse’s station was the treatment room, where all the medical equipment was stored. This was essentially Doctor Zhong’s domain.
A waiting area with benches was set up outside the treatment room for patients’ families.
To the right of the nurse’s station was the office area. The first room was Doctor Zhong’s private office, equipped with a desk, chair, and a large bookshelf for storing patient records and medical materials.
Opposite the office were two workstations separated by half-walls.
One of them was reserved for Chen Xi.
Further inside was an open break room with a water dispenser for doctors and nurses to rest.
There was also a small pharmacy, though it was still empty.
Su Tao planned to talk to Zhang Lin, the transport captain from Panliu mountain, to see if she could secure a supply chain for medicines.
She also needed to ask Zhuang Wan to recruit one or two more professional doctors.
With that, the clinic would be fully functional. Tenants with minor illnesses could receive treatment within Taoyang, and for larger injuries, Doctor Zhong could handle them.
Oh, right—she needed to prepare a new apartment for Doctor Zhong since she had demolished his old one.
She built him a one-bedroom apartment with a simple, elegant design. Since he didn’t cook, she skipped the kitchen but included a fridge, microwave, and a water purifier.
Remembering Zhuang Wan mentioning that Doctor Zhong loved cold drinks, she stocked the fridge with various beverages, ice cream, and frozen microwave meals.
After optimizing some final details, she was satisfied. Now, she just had to wait for Doctor Zhong to arrive in August.
Since she still had time, she expanded the complex by adding twenty single-room apartments.
These units were minimally furnished, only including a bed, toilet, and shower, all at the lowest price point. This allowed her to lower the rent to 3,000 per month.
She planned to release a batch of budget-friendly apartments each month for tenants facing financial difficulties.
Because they were simple to set up, she finished all twenty units in under fifteen minutes.
Checking the time, she saw it was already past 1 a.m., but she wasn’t done yet. She built two three-bedroom apartments and finished decorating them by 3 a.m. Finally, she returned to her own room.
Despite her exhaustion, she spent nearly an hour searching for Black Sesame, who had been wandering outside, before she could rest peacefully.
As she drifted off, she felt like she might drop dead from exhaustion at this rate—working and studying all day, building at night, and searching for her cat, sleeping barely four to five hours a day.
The next morning, Su Tao was forced awake at 8 a.m.
White Sesame was complaining to her—his brother, Black Sesame, had pried open the window screen again and escaped.
Yawning, Su Tao fed the two furballs before checking work messages from her subordinates. With no choice, she quickly washed up, ate breakfast, and went to work at Taoli Building.
When Zhuang Wan saw the newly available apartments, she was overjoyed and praised her boss’s dedication:
“Boss, you’re amazing! On behalf of all the tenants, I salute you!”
Su Tao took a sip of coffee.
“Thanks. Now, go catch Black Sesame for me. I want to take him to get a chip implant this afternoon so I don’t have to keep checking security footage to track him down.”
Zhuang Wan asked, “A tracking chip?”
Su Tao nodded. “Do you know anyone who can do it? If not, I’ll have to find Pei Dong.”
Zhuang Wan immediately responded, “No need to bother Sister Pei. Do you remember Gan Hongyu? He was one of our temporary drivers before. He knows how to do this. And it just so happens today is the weekend—I’ll call him over.”
Sure enough, within a short while, Gan Hongyu arrived carrying a small toolbox.
He opened it, revealing a variety of tools and crystals. After selecting a syringe, he loaded a tiny chip inside and tested the plunger before saying:
“Boss Su, hold him still. This will hurt a little.”
Su Tao suddenly felt guilty, but she still held Black Sesame down.
The thick needle pierced the kitten’s skin, and Black Sesame yowled, struggling hard.
Fortunately, Gan Hongyu was quick—he withdrew the needle in two seconds and rubbed the cat’s neck.
“All done, all done. No more pain.”
Su Tao quickly picked Black Sesame up and comforted him. The little cat whimpered pitifully, looking absolutely miserable.
Gan Hongyu took Su Tao’s communicator, tinkered with it for a moment, then handed it back.
“I installed an app. You can check his real-time location at any time. I also set a boundary—if he goes more than 500 meters outside Taoyang, you’ll get an automatic alert. You can adjust the range as needed.”
Su Tao checked it out—it worked perfectly.
“Thanks! This is so convenient. How much do I owe you? Don’t be shy, I won’t let you work for free.”
Gan Hongyu scratched his head.
“Well… actually, Boss Su, I have a colleague who, like me, specializes in tech research. He’s been trying to move into Taoyang but hasn’t been able to get a spot… If it’s too much trouble, forget I said anything.”
Su Tao chuckled. “You’re asking at the right time. I just added new vacancies. Is your colleague moving in alone, or does he have a family?”
“He has a wife and kids—a family of four. He’s hoping to get a three-bedroom apartment.”
Su Tao agreed readily. “No problem. Have him send his housing application to Manager Zhuang’s email. We’d be happy to have him.”
Gan Hongyu was overjoyed, practically floating with excitement.
“Thank you so much, Boss Su! My colleague’s surname is Feng. He even said that if he could move in, he’d be happy to help Taoyang with tech solutions for free. I’d help too!”
