Chapter 121: Boss Su Hits the Jackpot
At the crack of dawn the next day, Su Tao sent the listing details of the seven newly built two-bedroom apartments to Zhuang Wan.
Zhuang Wan was shocked. “Boss, what got into you? Dropping so many units at once—and all two-bedroom apartments? I’m not used to this!”
Before, Su Tao had always released properties like squeezing toothpaste—slowly and sparingly—while Zhuang Wan did the same when listing them, keeping potential tenants on edge.
Especially families, who were particularly desperate for two-bedroom units.
Su Tao thought to herself, It’s all about the money.
Expanding a two-bedroom apartment cost at least 32,000 Federation Credits.
She’d always been reluctant to spend that much.
But after seeing her bank balance yesterday, she felt like she finally had some real money, so she decided to splurge a little.
“Huh? Isn’t that Major General Shi? He’s leaving today, right? Boss, why aren’t you seeing him off?”
Following Zhuang Wan’s gaze, Su Tao looked out the window and spotted Shi Zijin, fully geared up and ready to depart.
Hmph.
Let him leave. It’s not like he’s never coming back.
They were just friends—no need to overthink it.
Sensing the mood, Zhuang Wan tentatively asked, “Did you two fight?”
Su Tao immediately denied it. “No.”
Zhuang Wan wanted to probe further, but her communicator rang. She stepped aside to answer, her expression worsening as she listened.
“What happened?” Su Tao asked.
Zhuang Wan took a sip of water to calm herself before replying, “A family of three renting Unit 010 wants to terminate their lease. They’re worried that something like the explosion the other day might happen again.”
Su Tao frowned. “Have any other tenants reacted the same way?”
“So far, just them.”
Su Tao waved dismissively. “Then let them go. But per the lease agreement, breaking a seasonal rental early means forfeiting one month’s deposit. Make sure they understand that. And let them know—if they regret this decision later, they won’t get another chance to move back in.”
Zhuang Wan nodded and rushed off to handle it.
Su Tao stepped outside, watching from afar as Shi Zijin vanished into thin air, leaving no trace behind—like he had never even been there.
She sighed. Maybe when he returns from this mission, we should have a proper talk.
She didn’t like this vague, uncertain dynamic between them.
Just then, the loud roar of an engine rumbled from the front gate.
Su Tao immediately spotted Lei Xing sitting on top of a massive vehicle.
He waved at her and, before the car even came to a full stop, flipped off the roof and landed right in front of her in a flash.
His inhuman speed startled Su Tao, making her instinctively take a step back.
Lei Xing grinned, flashing two sharp canines. “Boss Su, are you personally welcoming me at the door?”
Su Tao: “You’re overthinking it. Just park the car at the entrance. Come inside.”
Fire Serpent knocked on the car hood with his bare right hand. “What’s wrong with our ride? We custom-built it ourselves. Isn’t it cool?”
Su Tao had no particular appreciation for this kind of wasteland-style mechanical beast. With its exposed pipes and engines, it was all metal and brute force.
Still, she said, “Cool, but it’s too big. Space here is limited—if you drive it in, there won’t be anywhere to park.”
Even as she spoke, her mind was racing—Should I upgrade the public facilities store? That way, I could build an underground level and create a bigger parking garage.
But she quickly dismissed the idea.
Upgrading the public facilities store required a whopping 500,000 Federation Credits.
She couldn’t afford that expense just yet.
Lei Xing took her words seriously. “Do you have a car? If you like, I can mod it for you. I guarantee it’ll be even cooler than ours.”
Su Tao: “…Thanks, but no need for now. You guys haven’t had breakfast yet, right? Eat first, then I’ll settle your payment. After that, we’ll go see Dr. Zhong—the healer with the limb regeneration ability.”
Lei Xing asked, “Is breakfast on you?”
“Of course.”
“We eat a lot,” Lei Xing reminded her.
Su Tao hesitated, glancing at the fourteen tall, burly men. It… shouldn’t be that bad, right?
However, when she saw them devour a total of 40,000 Federation Credits worth of breakfast and hot drinks at the cafeteria, covering every table on the second floor with empty packaging stacked like mountains—
Su Tao: “……”
Fire Serpent, looking satisfied and glowing with happiness, said, “Boss Su! This is the best and most filling meal I’ve had in twenty years! Damn, how do you have all this stuff? Feels like I traveled back to my childhood before the apocalypse. We’ve traveled all over with Leopard’s Path for years, but how have we never heard of this place?”
Lei Xing chugged a 500ml bottle of milk, his dark gold pupils slightly dazed from satisfaction.
Su Tao thought he looked like a well-fed sesame dumpling.
After a moment, Lei Xing suddenly asked, “How much for this milk?”
Su Tao immediately put on her shrewd merchant face. “60 Federation Credits per bottle.”
In reality, she sold it internally to Tao Yang’s residents for only 20 credits, and her wholesale cost was just 10.
Lei Xing placed an order on the spot. “Before we leave, I’ll take 1,000 bottles. Boss Su, do you want to deduct it from our commission, or should I pay separately?”
Su Tao’s brain instantly did the math—a pure profit of 50,000 credits! Not only did she recover her breakfast losses, but she also gained an extra 10,000 on top.
“Pay separately,” she said without hesitation.
Lei Xing then turned to his men. “Anything else you guys want?”
The whole team’s eyes lit up, and they eagerly started calling out their orders—
“Boss! I want this instant ramen!”
“Stock up on soda, boss! It’s perfect for hot weather!”
“Uh… sorry, but I want those candies…”
…
And just like that, Su Tao spent the entire morning packing up their purchases, filling the entire second floor of the cafeteria with goods.
This group raided the place like bandits looting a village.
They wanted everything from every vending machine in the cafeteria—and in bulk. Even when they spotted household supplies in the apartment complex, they wanted those too.
They even bought twenty beds and thirty tables and chairs, saying they needed them for their base.
Fire Serpent, stroking a soft cotton blanket, excitedly told Lei Xing, “Captain, this is real pure cotton! Way better than the broken wooden boards and old clothes we’ve been sleeping on! This trip was worth it! You’ve got a great eye, Captain!”
The rest of the team chimed in, showering Lei Xing with exaggerated praise—saying how he was a genius for picking this mission, how he had foresight, how he led his crew into a life of abundance with real beds to sleep on.
Su Tao rolled her eyes internally. These guys are smooth talkers.
But her own excitement wasn’t any less than these shopping-crazy Leopard’s Path members.
After deducting their commission payment, she had still profited over 60,000 credits from this deal.
Meaning, not only did she successfully rescue Wu Zhen, but she also made an extra 60,000 credits.
This was an absolute jackpot.
“Captain Lei, you guys bought way too much. How are you going to carry it all?” Su Tao asked.
Lei Xing didn’t seem concerned. He casually waved at one of his men—a big-bellied guy. “Big Mouth, take care of it.”
Then, Su Tao watched in stunned silence as this big-bellied teammate suddenly opened his mouth… and kept opening it wider… and wider… until it was as big as a bed, swallowing up all the cargo in one gulp.
Then, he let out a burp.
Su Tao was shocked to her core.
What the hell is this creature—no, what kind of ability is this?!
