Back home, Su Tao told Zhuang Wan, “Why not let Qian Rongrong handle finance? She’s meticulous and has a good character.”
Zhuang Wan replied, “I’ve actually been considering that. But Qian Lin thinks she’s still too young and wants her to do miscellaneous tasks by my side for a few years to build experience first.”
Su Tao agreed, “That works too. Teach her gradually. You can oversee things for now, and later, rental income, plantation revenue, and employee wages will all be handled by you and Rongrong. At the beginning of each month, I’ll just check the accounts from both of you.”

Night had already fallen. Su Tao immediately notified all tenants to return to their rooms, stay within Taoyang, and avoid going out. Those who hadn’t returned home yet were advised to stay put in the safe zone of Dongyang.
After notifying the tenants, she contacted Pei Dong and then climbed to the rooftop of Building No. 3. Sure enough, under the dim light, she saw seven or eight evolved zombies with massive sickle-like limbs waving in the air.
At first, she thought they would just probe the electric fence like last time and then leave. But unexpectedly, they marched straight forward and started hacking at the walls with their scythes.
Su Tao was stunned. This was outright provocation! She immediately ordered the AI assistant to activate the electric defense system.
However, the electric shock merely caused wisps of white smoke to rise from their scythes. It had no real effect. They continued attacking the walls relentlessly.

A faint “bang”— The frontmost Blood Scythe Zombie’s massive limb exploded into pieces. The energy impact knocked it to the ground.
Two shots left!
Su Tao steadied her aim again. A blinding energy beam pierced through a zombie’s skull, sending brown flesh splattering everywhere—kill confirmed!
She repositioned herself and aimed at another Blood Scythe Zombie attempting to escape.
Bang! Another headshot!
By the time the others arrived on the rooftop, they saw Su Tao slumped against a wall, clutching her chest, while two mangled zombie corpses lay at the base of the wall below.
Guan Zining immediately hoisted her onto her back, grumbling, “Was the wall gonna collapse? They hacked at it so many times, and there’s barely a scratch. What were you trying to prove?”
The intense focus had drained Su Tao, but she felt lighter—relieved.
She smiled. Maybe she wasn’t that weak after all. She could avenge the fallen and fight back against enemies.
Seeing her smile, Guan Zining swallowed her lecture. Instead, she sighed, “Feeling exhausted? That’s the side effect of using a Crystal Energy Gun. It drains mental energy fast. Even Pei Dong gets dizzy after firing four shots, and you don’t even have any abilities.”
Su Tao finally understood. So it wasn’t just her being weak—it was a real drawback of using high-powered weapons.
After sending the worried tenants back, Guan Zining carried Su Tao to her room and went back out to inspect the fallen zombies. She returned with two blood-soaked crystal cores.
“Congrats, you didn’t completely destroy them. You just got yourself a nice reward.”
She washed them clean and tossed them to her.
Su Tao caught them instantly—ecstatic.
She had only wanted to vent, but now she had an unexpected gain.
Since her Crystal Energy Gun had completely run out of power, she immediately used one core to recharge it fully.
She gave the other to Lin Fangzhi for safekeeping.
Guan Zining also seemed pleased, “Take the next few days to rest. This attack came out of nowhere, but at least it proved that Taoyang’s walls are strong. I bet everyone will feel safer now.”
Su Tao was indeed exhausted, “Alright. Contact Pei Dong and check if Dongyang was attacked. Let me know when I wake up.”
That night, she slept deeply.
The next morning, Su Tao checked her communicator and saw a message from Guan Zining, “Dongyang was fine last night. The zombies only targeted Taoyang. Pei Dong thinks this was a test. Since they realized your place is too tough, they probably won’t come back.”
Reading this, Su Tao actually felt… a little disappointed.
Maybe the lil bone scythe zombie kid was that Yan Yan child from the locket? He has a bone disease and maybe it caused the virus to evolve or they can create an antidote or biological weapon to use against them.
