Chapter 5: Meeting as if Old Friends
Upon arriving at the dormitory, Lin Yuejiu followed the room number to find her floor. Lin Yimo was pulling a suitcase, with a bodyguard behind carrying a quilt.
When they reached room 219, Lin Yuejiu inserted the key and opened the door. Lin Yimo brought the things inside and started unpacking.
The dormitory was a four-person room, with beds on the lower level and wardrobes, desks, and other furniture next to them. Simply put, it was like the typical “bed-over-desk” layout from university, except the bed was on the bottom and the desk was beside it. It even had a balcony, air conditioning, and a private bathroom — not bad at all.
Lin Yimo let her arrange her personal belongings herself, while he helped with the rest.
Being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Lin Yimo had never done things like making a bed. Even though all the bedding was prepared, it still didn’t look very neat when he tried.
Lin Yuejiu, who was tidying the desk, saw him frowning at the bed and chuckled, “Brother, let me do it. You can help me organize this instead.”
Lin Yimo was silent for a moment before quickly replying, “Alright.”
Lin Yuejiu skillfully spread the sheets and fixed everything in place. Lin Yimo tilted his head to glance at her, “How are you so good at this?”
“Did you forget, brother? When I was little, I liked to crawl inside the quilt cover. I was afraid Mom would find out, so every time I finished, I had to fix it back myself.”
When she mentioned it, Lin Yimo remembered and smiled. He hadn’t known about it before — he only found out by accident when he came to bring her some fruit one time and caught her in the act. Only then did she confess honestly.
“You were the naughtiest when you were little.”
While he helped her tidy the desk, Lin Yimo said, “I bought you a new laptop. The old one is still at home, but I’ve already transferred over your files and records.”
“Great, thank you, brother.”
“No problem. I’ll head off now. You finish up and then get to class.”
“Okay.”
After Lin Yimo left, Lin Yuejiu began hanging up her clothes one by one.
She hadn’t let Lin Zhi bring any of her high-end branded clothes, only casual wear and some ordinary dresses. When Lin Zhi asked her why — whether she didn’t like them — she simply said they weren’t suitable for school. Lin Zhi agreed and didn’t pack them.
Once her clothes were hung, she placed her toothbrush, cup, and towel on the bathroom counter. There were already toiletries belonging to someone else there.
When everything was in order, she clapped her hands. Just then, the door opened. She turned her head to see a girl entering — around 1.63 meters tall, looking sweet and cute.
“Are you… Lin Yuejiu?” Lin Yuejiu nodded. “And you’re the other person in this dorm, right?”
Another nod.
Lin Yuejiu stood up and reached out her hand, “Hello, I’m Lin Yuejiu. I just moved in today. We’ll be roommates from now on — please take care of me.”
The girl also reached out her hand, “Hello, I’m Chen Qianxi. Please take care of me too.”
They exchanged smiles.
Strangely, Lin Yuejiu felt a sense of familiarity with her.
“I feel like I’ve known you for a long time.”
“I feel the same way about you.”
They spoke in unison, froze for a moment, and then laughed together.
Some people are just like that — even if they’ve never met before, it feels as if they’ve been friends forever.
After chatting for a while, they discovered they had many similar hobbies and interests. Chen Qianxi was thrilled. They even exchanged nicknames, calling each other Jiujiu and Xixi.
“Jiujiu, why did you suddenly move into the school dorm?”
“It’s the second semester of second year now, and soon it’ll be senior year. If I keep going home all the time in senior year, I’ll waste a lot of time, so I decided to live in the dorm for convenience.”
“I see! Then let’s go back to class together.”
“Sure.”
“Xixi, which class are you in?”
“I’m right next to yours — Class 2!”
“That’s such a coincidence.”
“Can I come visit you often?”
“Of course you can.”
“Yay!”
The two girls walked to the classroom arm-in-arm.
It was just after class break, so Chen Qianxi said goodbye and went to her own classroom.
As soon as she sat down, she heard Xu Nianshen ask, “You moved into the school dorm?”
Lin Yuejiu: “??? I just moved in. How do you even know?”
Xu Nianshen showed her his phone. She leaned closer and saw it was a chat record between her mother and Xu Zhi.
Lin Yuejiu: “…”
Xu Nianshen put away his phone, “So why the sudden move?”
“It’s the second semester of second year, and senior year is coming. Going home too often will waste time, so it’s more convenient at school.”
“With a car to pick you up, you could still study on the way. It’s not like it would take that long.”
“I just feel it’s more convenient at school.”
“But don’t you like being with your parents? Won’t you miss them?”
Her curled lashes fluttered, “I can still go home during holidays. I won’t miss them too much. You underestimate me.”
Although they hadn’t known each other since kindergarten, they’d been friends for over ten years. Xu Nianshen didn’t believe her, but before he could press further, the bell rang and Lin Yuejiu was already sitting upright.
After school, Xu Nianshen finished the last question, packed up, and prepared to go home.
Sensing his movements, Lin Yuejiu asked, “Hm? You’re going home? Bye-bye.”
He glanced at her, then tapped her on the head with his homework book.
“Ouch!” She covered her head and glared, “What was that for? Just because I didn’t tell you right away about moving to the dorm? Holding a grudge much?”
The corner of his mouth curled, “If something’s bothering you, don’t keep it to yourself. You can tell me. I may not be able to help, but I can laugh at you.”
“…Thanks so much.”
“You’re welcome.”
“….”
“Remember what I said. I’m leaving.” He turned and walked away.
Lin Yuejiu watched him walk off step by step, then smiled slightly.
That first night in the dorm, Chen Qianxi pulled out snacks from her desk and shared them, along with drinks, “Congratulations, Lin Yuejiu, on moving into the school!”
Lin Yuejiu laughed, clinking her drink can against hers.
Then Chen Qianxi opened all the snacks for her to try and even recommended a few favorites.
—
“Master, I’ve brought her.”
Hearing the butler’s voice, the old master Lin immediately set down his newspaper.
From behind the butler peeked a timid face. She glanced curiously at the smiling man before relaxing slightly and stepping out fully.
The old master quickly approached, beaming, “This must be Ru Meng, right?”
Lin Ru Meng hesitated, then softly said, “Grand… Grandpa.”
