Chapter 64: Verification Complete

Tang Yuanbin and Fu Qingge joined forces, and before long, they easily dealt with the majority of the mutated rats attacking them.

Sensing danger, the remaining mutated rats began to flee in all directions. They shifted their target to what seemed like easier prey—Su Ning and her group—launching another round of attacks.

Zhang Xing fired two consecutive air cannons, successfully blasting the rats away.

Although Lu You didn’t appear to be much of a fighter, his marksmanship was exceptionally precise.

Relying on his sensory abilities, he held his pistol and continuously fired at the mutated rats.

However, the mutated rats not only grew larger in size after their mutation, but their defenses also significantly increased.

Even after Lu You emptied several magazines, he still hadn’t managed to kill a single mutated rat.

Just as one rat was about to swipe at Lu You with its claws, a purple arrow shot by Su Ning hit its head. The poison in the arrow quickly spread, and within a second, the mutated rat died from the toxin.

Seeing Su Ning display such power, Tang Yuanbin couldn’t help but whistle, “Su Ning, your ability is incredible. I really like it.”

Su Ning gave a helpless smile and ignored Tang Yuanbin’s teasing.

She walked over to Lu You, asking with concern, “Are you okay?”

Being rescued by someone not much older than himself, Lu You blushed slightly, feeling a bit embarrassed. “Thanks for earlier. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably be in serious danger.” He felt relieved that Su Ning was there—otherwise, even if he didn’t die, he’d be missing a good chunk of flesh.

The claws and teeth of the mutated rats were extremely sharp. He definitely didn’t want to get hit by one.

However, the next part of the battle had little to do with Su Ning and the others.

Tang Yuanbin and Fu Qingge began taking down the remaining rats as if on a competitive stage.

Their strength was astounding.

Tang Yuanbin’s destructive power was terrifying. In addition to his talent for controlling electromagnetism, the skill [Railgun] in his arsenal made Su Ning inwardly gasp in awe.

Once unleashed, the railgun obliterated enemies like a storm.

If Tang Yuanbin was a berserker thunder warrior, then Fu Qingge was a cold, aloof ice mage—elegant and deadly.

With every movement, like a dance or performance, he froze the mutated rats.

Together, they quickly cleared out the ambushing rats.

Su Ning approached the rat corpses and used [Scavenger’s Eye] to inspect them again.

[Mutated Rat Corpse]: While the body itself poses no immediate threat, if left unattended for too long, the carcasses may breed bacteria, causing irreversible harm to human health.

Su Ning then translated this information into simple language for everyone.
“I’ve scanned the corpses. These rats, whether alive or dead, carry no toxins or pathogens that can spread to humans.”

Hearing this, everyone sighed in relief.

But before they could fully relax, Su Ning continued with a less pleasant point:
“However, if these rat corpses aren’t destroyed soon, they could still cause trouble.”

Tang Yuanbin scratched his head. His power had a small side effect—every time he used it, his hair would spike up like a hedgehog, glowing faintly with static sparks.

He said, “That makes sense. Any biological corpse left too long becomes a problem.”

Fu Qingge listened quietly, then formed a small cluster of white mist in his hand. It floated toward one of the rat corpses.

As the mist touched the body, everyone clearly heard a freezing sound.

Moments later, the rat froze into a solid block of ice.

Tang Yuanbin immediately picked up a rock and smashed it down on the ice block.

With a sharp crack, the block shattered into countless icy fragments, and the rat’s body crumbled into frozen bits.

Tang Yuanbin exclaimed, “That’s a great ability—eco-friendly and cooling. Honestly, in this heat, I envy your power!”

Fu Qingge didn’t respond.

Instead, he looked up at the sky, which was just beginning to brighten, and said, “We can now confirm with certainty: the unknown virus that caused the fall of Shelter No. 9 originated from the Rat King. All we have to do now is find a way to deal with it.”

Everyone nodded in agreement.

Just as they were about to leave, Tang Yuanbin did something unexpected—he picked up the corpse of a mutated rat and carried it back.

Zhang Xing asked curiously, “Captain Tang, what are you doing?”

“Oh, I was just thinking—since these rats aren’t poisonous, maybe we could consider eating them?” Tang Yuanbin said it like it was the most natural thing.

The others fell silent. Even Su Ning’s expression froze for a second.

Seeing their reactions, Tang Yuanbin suddenly burst into laughter.
“Haha, I’m just kidding! I’m taking it back for the researchers to study.”

Su Ning, with her Scavenger’s Eye, had access to information others didn’t. But Tang Yuanbin and the rest had no idea the mutations were caused by the Rat King.

So it made sense to bring back a specimen for research.

What Su Ning didn’t know was that everything happening here had already been sensed by a certain rat.

Back at the temporary base, Qin Fan finally relaxed after learning that the rat swarm wasn’t carrying the virus.

He’d been terrified that the rats might spread the infection to other shelters—which would be disastrous.

“Everyone get some rest. Tomorrow we’ll discuss how to deal with the Rat King.”

Su Ning could finally rest.

The temporary factory shelter was large. Although there were designated rest areas, she didn’t want to squeeze in with others and preferred solitude.

She found a quiet corner, pulled out a small portable tent from her backpack, and set it up.

Once inside, it became her personal space, separated from the outside world.

From her inventory, she retrieved a pot of freshly bloomed thermal flowers. The cool fragrance filled the tent, removing the need to envy Fu Qingge’s built-in air conditioner-like powers.

She took out the snacks No. 4 had made especially for her and started enjoying her rare downtime.

Closing her eyes, Su Ning began to think.

She suddenly wondered—since Tang Yuanbin and Fu Qingge were so powerful, could they have completed the kill mission in the Corpse Hell dungeon?

It was highly possible.

Just then, her scavenger backpack twitched.

The familiar sensation jolted Su Ning awake—her two little companions were finally about to awaken.

Yesterday I randomly watched a sci-fi movie with a friend and got inspired for the next survival dungeon.
