Chapter 6: The End of the Virus Dungeon
System Shop
Su Ning also noticed this notification.
“A shop? Players can actually open shops?”
But she quickly understood why some players previously mentioned they couldn’t access the shop system yet.
After some investigation, she realized that players must successfully complete the first dungeon in order to unlock the shop system.
Su Ning believed that once the system shop was activated, players would have more opportunities to obtain essential survival materials.
Life in the real world could become a bit easier as well.
“This way, people will be able to purchase the things they need in the shop.”
People’s lives might improve to some extent because of this, right?
Although Su Ning dearly hoped everything would move in a positive direction, she also knew that reality was often disappointing.
Especially with the arrival of this survival game, people were awakening various abilities. Naturally, some would undergo subtle changes in mentality.
“Once this game ends, I’m afraid the real world will plunge into a wave of chaos.”
Su Ning lay back down on the couch cushion, beginning to ponder her future life.
She longed to survive and didn’t want to endure the torment of hunger any longer.
Fortunately, she had the [Scavenger] ability. This might be her lifeline in this harsh environment.
This talent allowed Su Ning to easily find useful materials in survival dungeons.
But she also needed to find ways to improve her strength.
With this in mind, in the silence of the night, the surroundings echoed with the howls of infected creatures.
To her, these sounds were like white noise—they didn’t disturb her at all.
Soon, a wave of sleepiness swept over her, and she drifted into a deep sleep.
The next morning, everything was calm again.
“Is it dawn already?” Su Ning rubbed her sleepy eyes, glanced quickly at the time, and realized there was only one hour left before the Virus Town dungeon closed.
“One more hour—I have to hurry and find more useful stuff.”
With that thought, Su Ning perked up, packed her things, and got ready to leave the billboard she had been using as a temporary shelter.
Just before falling asleep last night, she’d had a sudden realization: Since there’s a chance to enter the dungeon and she has a scavenger backpack, she must fill it to the brim!
To arm herself!
Su Ning finished packing and stepped out from the billboard shelter.
There were no infected in sight—they had probably hidden in dark places.
She walked along the street; there was only one hour left.
She picked up the pace. There was no time to enter houses and search room by room.
Instead, she headed for stores and similar places.
At that moment, she entered a supermarket.
Unsurprisingly, it was a mess. Su Ning realized her plan to scavenge leftover food here was impossible.
All the food was either spoiled or had already been taken by other survivors.
But food wasn’t what she was after—she quickly moved to the daily essentials section.
Yes, what she wanted were everyday supplies, especially toilet paper!
It was a critical item. Also important were wet wipes—in the extreme doomsday heat, there was no extra water for washing up.
Wet wipes became a vital resource, along with female hygiene products.
There were still plenty of supplies in the daily goods section—enough to last Su Ning a while.
Just as she was putting things into her scavenger backpack, a strange noise suddenly came from deep inside the supermarket.
“Hisss~”
Su Ning was instantly alert. Without hesitation, she turned and ran for the supermarket exit.
She knew fully infected beings wouldn’t appear in direct sunlight—as long as she made it outside, she’d be safe.
But low-level infected posed a bigger threat.
Her hands flashed, gripping a short knife tightly—collected earlier from the kitchen supplies section. If any infected followed her outside, she would test out her [Perfect Aim] skill.
Su Ning had already eaten and regained her stamina. Upon hearing the sound, she quickly fled the supermarket.
Looking back, she saw several figures lurking in the supermarket’s shadows.
They were all infected.
Su Ning had escaped just in time.
They could only growl at her from the shadows—none of them dared step into the sunlight.
She sighed in relief—thankfully, there were no low-level infected.
But she knew she would have to face dangerous situations like this again. It was only a matter of time before she had to fight. She had to overcome all challenges.
Now was the time.
She stepped closer and hurled the short knife at a target hidden in the shadow.
“Whoosh!”
[Perfect Aim] activated. The knife embedded itself directly in the infected’s head.
“Awesome!”
Su Ning’s eyes lit up. The [Perfect Aim] skill was incredibly powerful.
Her target seemed to be marked—she could strike wherever she aimed.
However, she thought, if she had a ranged weapon, the effect would be even greater than throwing knives.
“So now I need a ranged weapon too!”
In the final ten minutes, Su Ning began searching for other useful items.
What she really wanted was a water source—not only to collect water but also to wash up.
But she feared the unknown virus might have contaminated water sources. To this day, Su Ning had hardly taken off her mask except when eating.
[Ding! Virus Town dungeon complete. Congratulations, player has returned!]
[Notice: The next game will begin in one week!]
As soon as Su Ning heard that the Virus Town dungeon had ended, her figure flashed—
She was back in the real world.
The moment she returned, the scorching heat made her frown.
“Sure enough, after spending time in a comfortable environment, coming back to this heat is unbearable.”
Su Ning was about to take out her thermal converter to make ice water. Even if she didn’t drink it, she could use it to cool down.
Suddenly, a scream interrupted her thoughts.
It was a familiar voice—Aunt Duan from next door.
“Old Zhang! You can’t leave us behind—how are we supposed to live without you?!”
Su Ning opened the door, wondering whether others had also just returned from the game.
Of course, it wasn’t just Zhang Li’s family—cries and screams echoed throughout the neighborhood.
Zhang Li’s door burst open.
Duan Meixia and Zhang Li, looking devastated, ran out in search of help.
When they saw Su Ning just stepping outside, they were shocked—Su Ning didn’t look like she’d gone through a survival game at all.
In contrast, the two of them looked completely disheveled.
Duan Meixia was at a loss. Seeing Su Ning unscathed made her feel uneasy.
Zhang Li’s eyes flashed with jealousy.
But they didn’t waste time. Duan Meixia went to find help.
Zhang Li blocked the door—Su Ning vaguely saw Uncle Zhang lying motionless on the ground.
Su Ning and Zhang Li had never gotten along, so she didn’t intend to stay and annoy her.
But just as Su Ning was about to go back inside—
Zhang Li suddenly called out to her.
“Hey, Su Ning! You didn’t run into any danger in the survival game?”
How could Su Ning not have a single injury?
Zhang Li was furious.
