Chapter 120: The Reckoning Begins
It had now been six days since Su Ning entered the [City of Mist] instance. If she could survive one more day, she would complete the first task. And if she also collected 100 Mist Hearts for the second task, she would be able to return directly to the real world.
Su Ning knew that with Fu Qingge present, Fu Qingyao would definitely be able to complete the mission. As for the petrified Xi Chunyan, as long as Su Ning stayed alive, there was no way she would recover.
If Su Ning wanted revenge, she had to find Fu Qingge today.
“It seems Fu Qingge is deliberately hiding from me. I’ve searched for two days without even catching a glimpse of them.”
Not only was Su Ning using Unit 3’s perception abilities, but she had also released Honghong to help search for Fu Qingge.
On the way, Su Ning managed to complete the second task—collecting 100 Mist Hearts.
After the previous explosion, the mist in the City of Mist had temporarily dispersed. But now, with the recovery of the three Mist Lords, the mist was once again spreading through the city.
Su Ning wasn’t afraid in the slightest. With her title of [Monster Slayer], as long as she didn’t encounter a Mist Lord, she could easily handle any monsters that came her way.
“This title is practically a monster’s nemesis. It’ll make surviving in monster-filled instances so much easier in the future.”
While Su Ning was thinking this, she suddenly received a message from Honghong—she had found the person they were looking for.
“Oh? Is that so? Then it’s time to settle this.”
At that moment, Fu Qingge had just taken down the final mist monster. He and Fu Qingyao had finished collecting the Mist Hearts.
“As long as we make it through today safely, we can return.”
Fu Qingge glanced at the petrified statue of Xi Chunyan, now under Fu Qingyao’s care. His heart was filled with mixed feelings. He wasn’t sure if what he had done was right or wrong.
Clearly, Xi Chunyan wasn’t dead. Once they returned, a player in Shelter Two who possessed a talent for removing special states could lift the petrification.
There was indeed someone in Shelter Two with a talent that could undo all kinds of abnormal statuses.
But the more Fu Qingge thought about Su Ning—who was forced into such a desperate situation because of his actions—the more uneasy he became.
It was obvious: after this incident, there was no turning back. He and Su Ning were now enemies—bitter enemies, perhaps even mortal enemies.
Originally, hiring Su Ning had just been a transaction. He had never expected his sister and his friends to show no gratitude and even set a trap for her, nearly costing Su Ning her life.
If Su Ning had really died, Fu Qingge might’ve just sighed and whispered a quiet “sorry.”
But now that he knew she had survived, Fu Qingge couldn’t stop worrying about the revenge she would surely bring.
Seeing her brother constantly sighing and looking distressed, Fu Qingyao didn’t care at all.
In her eyes, Su Ning was just some irrelevant nobody. Whether she lived or died had nothing to do with her. At this moment, Fu Qingyao was glaring at the petrified Xi Chunyan and even cursed under her breath: “Hope you just died in that explosion.”
But just as Fu Qingyao finished speaking, a voice rang out beside her:
“Then I’m afraid I’ll have to disappoint you—because I’m still alive and well.”
Fu Qingge instantly recognized the voice and turned his head sharply.
He lunged toward Fu Qingyao to protect her.
At that moment, an ice shield suddenly materialized in front of them—
—and in the next instant, three purple, venomous arrows embedded themselves into the shield!
The shield wasn’t the only thing that shattered—one of the arrows pierced straight into the head of the statue of Xi Chunyan, which Fu Qingge had momentarily forgotten.
Fu Qingyao was terrified by the sudden attack.
Fu Qingge stared in horror as a familiar figure slowly emerged from the mist.
The sound of buzzing surrounded them.
Honghong and the Emerald Bee flanked Su Ning protectively.
Fu Qingge opened his mouth, as if trying to say something, but what came out was:
“Su Ning… You’re really alive?”
He still couldn’t believe that Su Ning had escaped from the Mist Lord.
Su Ning let out a mocking laugh. She had once thought Fu Qingge was a just and decent man. When they first met, she assumed he could distinguish right from wrong—but she had clearly overestimated human nature.
Humans were complex. And in an apocalyptic world full of catastrophes, human nature became even more difficult to judge.
“Thanks to your lovely sister and your so-called friends, I almost lost my life.”
Fu Qingge tried to explain, but Su Ning’s attacks came swiftly and violently.
Each move was aimed to kill, giving him no chance to speak.
Only then did Fu Qingge realize: Su Ning’s strength was not only equal to his—it was terrifyingly stronger.
Fu Qingyao stood frozen in fear, because she had noticed that Xi Chunyan’s stone statue had been shattered. Her head was gone.
That meant there was no hope of saving her.
“Sister Xi!!”
Fu Qingyao screamed.
Fu Qingge turned back and saw the ruined statue.
His pupils contracted. He looked at Su Ning in disbelief:
“Are you insane?! Xi Chunyan is the daughter of the Xi family from Shelter Two!”
Su Ning frowned slightly.
“And? She tried to kill me. I’m not allowed to fight back?”
Fu Qingge had no response.
Su Ning smiled coldly at him:
“What, already angry? I haven’t even dealt with your sister yet.”
At those words, Fu Qingge’s eyes widened.
Fu Qingyao began to tremble in fear, hiding behind her brother, too afraid to even look at Su Ning.
Su Ning activated her Medusa Skill.
Seeing her transformed appearance, Fu Qingge felt an even heavier pressure.
He didn’t want to fight Su Ning and tried to reason, “Su Ning, do we really have to go this far? You’ve already killed Xi Chunyan. The Xi family won’t let you go. Even if you live in Shelter Six, they’ll still come after you. And now you want to make an enemy of the Fu family too? Have you thought about the consequences?”
Su Ning replied coldly, “So as long as none of you say anything, who will know?”
Fu Qingge fell silent.
Of course, he would never explain what really happened once he returned.
Su Ning sneered, “Then what’s the point of all this talking?”
She turned her eyes to Fu Qingyao, “Do something wrong, and you pay the price. Are you ready?”
Fu Qingyao’s eyes welled up with tears.
Fu Qingge shielded his sister.
“You’ve already made an enemy of the Xi family—do you really want to go up against the Fu family too? Su Ning, just give me some face. I’ll apologize on Qingyao’s behalf.”
Su Ning nearly rolled her eyes.
“Apologize? And everything’s fine? What, do I look like a pushover to you?”
She glared at him.
“The nerve of you. Want some face? How about I slap it off instead?”
Clearly, there was no room left for negotiation.
The battle erupted immediately.
Su Ning’s venomous arrows were all frozen and shattered by Fu Qingge’s ice abilities.
Her poison was ineffective.
So she used Petrifying Gaze—but Fu Qingge was no fool. One look at her current form, and he immediately guessed she was something like the mythical Medusa. He avoided direct eye contact.
Su Ning didn’t insist—she sent Honghong to engage him instead.
With Honghong joining the fight, Fu Qingge was quickly overwhelmed.
Electrical currents surged toward him and Fu Qingyao, forcing them to retreat.
“It’s an elemental monster?!” Fu Qingge was stunned.
In the chaos, he and his sister became separated.
With Honghong and Emerald Bee pinning him down, Fu Qingge had no time to protect Fu Qingyao.
Meanwhile, Su Ning walked directly toward Fu Qingyao.
Fu Qingyao looked at her in horror.
“Don’t come any closer!”
Su Ning slapped her. Twice.
SMACK! SMACK!
Fu Qingyao screamed as Su Ning grabbed her by the throat.
“You should’ve known—everyone has to answer for their actions.”
Fu Qingyao tried to scream for help.
But Su Ning didn’t want to leave anything to chance. She didn’t want any loose ends.
In her Medusa form, one of her snakes bit into Fu Qingyao.
Venom was injected directly into her bloodstream.
Even if she didn’t die right away—her death was now only a matter of time.
“SU—NING!!!!”
The sister-obsessed Fu Qingge roared as he saw this.
But he was still locked in battle with Honghong and couldn’t help her.
Su Ning ignored his cries.
For anyone who dared to hurt her—she would never show mercy.
