Doomsday: Scavenging in a Survival Game – CH102

Communication, Distortion Radiation?

Chapter 102: Communication, Distortion Radiation?

Kou Dingshan’s words struck everyone like a heavy hammer, plunging the entire room into a deathly silence.

Everyone’s expression turned grim, as if an invisible pressure had suddenly enveloped them.

After a long while, Dong Xingyu was the first to break the silence. His voice was low and solemn, “Indeed. We must be extremely cautious. From the current situation, the dangers outside go far beyond extreme cold—there might be hidden monsters no one knows about.”
As he spoke, he vigilantly scanned the surroundings.

Zhongsun Junhao quickly agreed,  “Let’s move fast. Gather the books we need and get out of here as soon as possible. Judging by the bloodstains and the frozen corpse, this person hasn’t been dead for long. That means the unknown monster could still be lurking nearby.”

At this moment, Su Ning was intently examining the now slightly stiff corpse.

Upon careful observation, it was clear the victim had been attacked by some extremely powerful creature, resulting in instant death.

According to preliminary judgment, the person had died around an hour ago.

Nearby, Jiang Nana couldn’t bear the gruesome sight. Her face was pale as paper, and her body trembled slightly.

Seeing Su Ning staring unflinchingly at the corpse, Jiang Nana stepped forward, tugged gently on Su Ning’s sleeve, and whispered, “Let’s leave… quickly…”

Su Ning didn’t linger. She pulled her gaze away and began calmly collecting the books she found interesting.

Of course, these books weren’t just for reading—they could also serve as fuel.

Although their primary objective was to search for coal, no usable resource should be overlooked.

What Su Ning didn’t expect was that Zhongsun Junhao would so openly display his spatial ability.

Noticing Su Ning’s fixed gaze on Junhao, Kou Dingshan took the initiative to explain, “Junhao’s gift is spatial power. That’s why I invited him on this mission to find coal. With his ability, he can store what we collect safely and distribute it after we return.”

Su Ning nodded slightly, expressing her understanding, but showed no surprise—contrary to Kou Dingshan’s expectations.

In truth, spatial powers were nothing unusual for Su Ning.

But naturally, she wouldn’t reveal her own spatial secret. Instead, like the others, she handed her chosen books over to Junhao for storage.

After they finished gathering what they needed and prepared to leave, they were shocked to discover that the previously subsiding snowstorm had surged up again—stronger than ever before.

Faced with such severe weather, Dong Xingyu couldn’t help but sigh, “Under these conditions, continuing forward won’t be easy.”

Though Dong Xingyu had the ability to dissolve snow and wind, using his powers repeatedly would drain his energy rapidly.

Kou Dingshan furrowed his brows, “In that case, we’ll have to rest in this bookstore for now.”

Even so, everyone remained on high alert, especially because of the corpse upstairs.

At that moment, Su Ning didn’t hesitate to gather some damaged books, intending to call over Little Flame Meow.

The little cat still looked aloof and arrogant.

After all, Su Ning wasn’t its master and couldn’t simply order it around.

Fortunately, Su Ning had the beast-taming skill.

So she opened her backpack, pulled out a sausage, and gently called to the cat:
“Kitty, help me start a fire, and this sausage is yours.”

The proud cat was instantly swayed by the aroma of the sausage.

Combined with Su Ning’s unique taming aura, the cat couldn’t help but approach her.

Inwardly, Little Flame Meow muttered, “Oh no, why do I feel like I’ve lost control? Could this two-legged creature be some kind of terrifying demon? She can control my body at will! This is bad—I need to protect my master from her! That thing she’s holding must be a powerful secret weapon. I’ll destroy it!”

At that moment, the cat leapt up like lightning, bit down hard on the sausage in Su Ning’s hand, and—with a swing of its flaming tail—ignited the pile of torn books.

Jiang Nana watched in amazement and asked, “How did you do that? Sometimes Little Meow doesn’t even listen to me.”

Su Ning smiled faintly and half-joked, “Maybe it’s just… personal charm?”

Jiang Nana paused in surprise, then shook her head and chuckled, “You’re really something.”

Now, everyone sat together around the warm fire, listening quietly to the howling blizzard outside.

The raging winds sounded like a furious beast, triggering wild thoughts in everyone’s minds.

Su Ning picked up a book and began reading, trying to immerse herself and escape the tension.

Sensing the low morale, Kou Dingshan cleared his throat and began sharing a story about a thrilling experience in a previous instance.

“If only I could go back to that previous dungeon again. Maybe I’d be able to collect more amazing creatures like Little Flame Meow.” His tone was full of longing.

Su Ning’s eyes lit up at that.

Although she had many pets, none were as naturally powerful as Little Flame Meow.

Creatures like Honghong and Huahua were artificially mutated—they didn’t compare.

At the same time, Dong Xingyu and Zhongsun Junhao were also intrigued by Kou Dingshan’s story.

Seeing their interest, Kou Dingshan slowly explained, “That dungeon was called Monster Ruins. It was extremely dangerous—nightmare-level. The whole world had been destroyed by terrifying monsters. Creatures of all kinds ran rampant. But as they say, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. That’s how I happened to find the rare egg that eventually hatched into Little Flame Meow.”

As he spoke, he patted his chest with lingering fear, “To get that egg, I almost died. Those monsters hunted me for a long time.”

Everyone listened intently. Jiang Nana leaned happily against his shoulder—after all, he had given her the precious egg he risked his life to obtain.

Hearing about other dungeons, Zhongsun Junhao fell deep into thought.

After a moment, he looked up and asked solemnly, “Has anyone ever heard of a dungeon called Distortion Radiation?”

Everyone exchanged puzzled glances. Clearly, no one had.

Zhongsun Junhao continued,  “This dungeon is incredibly dangerous—a true nightmare. The horror it brings is beyond imagination. Statistics show that less than 10% of players return alive. What’s worse, those who do come back suffer lasting damage—physically or to their abilities.”

Just hearing the name made everyone feel uneasy.

Sure enough, Su Ning’s intuition was confirmed when Zhongsun Junhao began explaining the disturbing changes in returnees.

“There was once a soldier from the First Shelter who managed to return after barely surviving the dungeon. Unfortunately, the intense radiation inside twisted his original gift—‘Clairvoyance’—beyond recognition…”

He paused, then took a deep breath and continued, “Now, his body keeps uncontrollably growing countless eyes.”

“Hiss…”  Kou Dingshan and Dong Xingyu both sucked in cold air, horrified.

They couldn’t imagine how creepy and grotesque it must look to have someone covered in eyes.

And it got worse.

Zhongsun Junhao went on, “Even worse, his mental state became dangerously unstable. Maybe because of all the eyes, he developed a twisted obsession with them—he even started craving to dig out others’ eyeballs to satisfy his urges.”

“My god… That dungeon changes people that much?”
Everyone was stunned.

A heavy silence fell. No one dared imagine what certain dungeons could do to players.

After all, without an effective way to resist such side effects, anyone who entered could be walking toward death.

Zhongsun Junhao nodded gravely. What he didn’t say out loud was this:

His own brother had once entered the same dungeon—and after returning, had vanished without a trace.

Just then, a blood-curdling scream echoed outside, followed by a terrifying roar.
