Chapter 73: Water Purifier
Gu Qinghuan ate lunch until she was full, mostly because she had nothing else to do. She had to focus on the food, and before she realized it, she had eaten too much.
Jiang Chuchu estimated that it was about time to finish, so she politely said a few words and got up. Gu Qinghuan immediately followed, and Yu Xin excused herself under the pretense of attending to them.
The three of them returned to Yu Xin’s bedroom, exchanging glances. Gu Qinghuan was the first to speak.
She pressed her face in her hands, looking distressed. “Listening to Chuchu and Yu Jinxin spar like that made my head spin.”
Jiang Chuchu immediately laughed. “You really don’t need to understand this kind of sparring. Chances are, it’s not something you’ll ever use anyway.”
They were from different social circles; there was no need for her to know.
Besides, Jiang Chuchu felt that explaining Yu Wenli and Yu Jinxin’s thoughts in detail to Gu Qinghuan would basically be polluting her ears.
Yu Xin chimed in: “Basically, Yu Jinxin wanted to establish a connection with Chuchu, but Chuchu blocked him at every turn.”
Even though she didn’t fully understand, knowing the “answer” beforehand and seeing Yu Wenli give instructions to Yu Jinxin made it easier to grasp.
“I could kind of feel that too,” Gu Qinghuan put her hands down, her expression a bit conflicted. “It’s just… how should I put it? I know Chuchu is excellent, but since I can’t understand what’s going on, I don’t even know how impressive she really is… I don’t even know how to praise her properly…”
Jiang Chuchu’s mood instantly brightened, and she hugged Gu Qinghuan firmly for once. “I’m already very happy with your praise!”
But after hugging her, she felt a little embarrassed and quickly let go, clearing her throat to ease the awkwardness. “Anyway, dealing with Yu Jinxin is a piece of cake for me!”
Just as she said this, rain started pouring outside, pattering loudly.
Sesame, who had been lying on the cat tower by the balcony, jumped down and meowed at Yu Xin.
“Afraid of the rain?” Jiang Chuchu poked it on the head with her finger.
“It really doesn’t like the rain. Every time it rains, it stays far from the window and wants to sleep close to me,” Yu Xin said as she closed the balcony door.
Gu Qinghuan rubbed her chin. “Maybe it’s because the first time its mother abandoned it, it was raining…”
Jiang Chuchu immediately shut her mouth, looking frustrated.
Sesame had no idea what these two two-legged creatures, who reminded it of their mother, were talking about. Seeing the balcony door closed and the rain quieter, it ran back to the bedroom.
When it saw Yu Xin hadn’t followed, it paused at the door, flicking its tail and meowing.
“It’s urging you to come over,” Jiang Chuchu said. Having cats at home, she understood these behaviors well.
“During the last weekend, I was napping at this time. Now it’s raining again, so it probably wants to sleep with me,” Yu Xin said, a little troubled.
She couldn’t just leave Gu Qinghuan and Jiang Chuchu unattended and go sleep herself.
“Perfect,” Gu Qinghuan raised her hand, saying apologetically, “I ate a bit too much for lunch, and I’d like to rest. Can I lie down on your lounge sofa for a while?”
Jiang Chuchu was a little tired too. Talking with Yu Jinxin had taken a lot of energy, so she also wanted to rest. “Is there a guest room? I’d like to nap too.”
She then tugged at Gu Qinghuan. “Why sleep on a lounge sofa? Sleep in the guest room. I can’t believe such a big house doesn’t have a guest room.”
Of course, there was a guest room — actually, two single rooms had been prepared, with fresh sheets and blankets.
Gu Qinghuan stood at the door of a single room, thinking how convenient it was that with enough money, one could always have a room ready for friends to stay over.
Although she probably couldn’t afford a house like Yu’s in the future, she could at least buy a room with a guest bedroom, so friends could stay over.
She didn’t think too much about it and lay down on the bed to sleep.
Outside, the rain pattered gently. Through the window, the sound was muted and became a soothing white noise, allowing Gu Qinghuan to sleep very well.
The three of them had agreed on a two-hour rest period, but Gu Qinghuan woke up about half an hour early. When she opened her eyes and saw the unfamiliar ceiling, she was momentarily disoriented.
Right—she was at Yu Xin’s house, still napping in the guest room.
Gu Qinghuan rubbed her eyes and got up. Her throat felt a little dry. She didn’t find any water in the room, so she decided to go out.
Yu Xin was probably still asleep, so she didn’t want to disturb her.
The guest room was on the first floor. When Gu Qinghuan stepped out, she didn’t see any servants, but she did see Yu Yuan.
In one corner of the living room sat a piano. Yu Yuan was on the piano bench, the lid closed, resting her elbows on it and idly scrolling through her phone.
Perhaps hearing Gu Qinghuan walk, Yu Yuan turned her head, but upon seeing it was Gu Qinghuan, she quickly looked away again, showing an aloof attitude.
Gu Qinghuan ignored Yu Yuan’s rejection, walked closer, and politely asked, “I’d like some water. Could you tell me where I can find it?”
“There’s a water bar over there,” Yu Yuan lazily pointed.
Just as Gu Qinghuan was about to go, Yu Yuan curved her lips and said a bit nastily, “Perfect, I’m thirsty too. Pour me a glass while you’re at it.”
Her tone clearly indicated she wanted to boss Gu Qinghuan around.
Gu Qinghuan thought for a moment but didn’t respond. She simply turned and went to pour the water.
She quickly found the water bar but immediately fell into thought: how does this machine work?
At home, they just boiled water, poured it into a cold-water jug or thermos, and drank when needed.
Although she could tell the machine was similar to a water dispenser, she still needed to figure out how to operate the buttons.
Yu Yuan craned her neck, secretly watching Gu Qinghuan. When she saw her standing still in front of the water bar, a smirk appeared on her face.
So this girl from an ordinary family doesn’t even know how to use a water purifier…
Halfway through her thought, she saw Gu Qinghuan take out her phone and take a photo of the machine.
Soon, a video played on Gu Qinghuan’s phone—an instructional video on how to use that brand of water purifier.
Gu Qinghuan thought: The instruction isn’t a text version but a video—how thoughtful. Also, the Taobao customer service responded really fast.
She gave the customer service a “very satisfied” rating, followed the video to operate the machine, poured two glasses of water, and returned to Yu Yuan, handing her one. “Here you go.”
Yu Yuan snapped out of her shock and blurted out, “Where did you get that video?”
“Taobao. You just take a picture and it knows which brand it is. I asked customer service, and they sent it to me,” Gu Qinghuan said calmly. “Do you want me to send you the video?”
“How could I not know how to use it!” Yu Yuan fumed, cursing the water purifier brand in her mind and questioning why they even had an online store.
But seeing the water Gu Qinghuan poured, she calmed down a bit. Taking the glass, she said with a mocking tone, “You actually poured the water?”
“Yeah, just helping a friend take care of her little sister,” Gu Qinghuan remained calm.
Yu Yuan froze. She really wanted to throw the water at Gu Qinghuan, but the next words stopped her.
Gu Qinghuan sat down on the rattan chair opposite the piano, blinking at her. “Not going to play? Xin Bao says your piano sounds really good.”
