Chapter 142: First Episode Broadcast
Gu Qinghuan’s biological clock ran smoothly; she woke at seven sharp. She woke Yu Yuan, opened the window for some fresh air, and then dragged her to the restroom to rinse her mouth.
Yu Yuan was still half-asleep, groggily taking a disposable cup. The moment water touched her mouth, she snapped awake—it was freezing!
She spat it out with a “Wah!” feeling as if her teeth were frozen. “No hot water?!”
Gu Qinghuan, standing beside her, also spat out her rinse water. “Feels more awake now, right?”
Yu Yuan had no response; she had never felt so alert.
They went back to the office. The other two hadn’t arrived yet, so they first discussed their own lines.
Soon, Lu Jian arrived, carrying several notebooks and exercise books, saying she could take notes and do homework while discussing.
Half-student Gu Qinghuan and struggling student Yu Yuan were instantly respectful: no wonder she was a top student.
When Le Yi arrived, he was met by three pairs of eyes. For a moment, he wondered if he was late. He raised his wrist to check his watch: “Am I late?”
“No, we were just bored and betting on which foot you’d use to enter first,” Gu Qinghuan said seriously.
Le Yi recalled which foot he stepped in with—unsuccessfully. “Who won the bet?”
“Everyone,” Gu Qinghuan replied. “We all bet on the right foot.”
Le Yi: That’s not really a bet!
After the small talk, the four of them, along with the script’s author participating remotely, sat together to revise the script.
The author only spoke but didn’t show their face. Their voice was modulated through a device, sounding mechanical. Strange at first, but after a while, it was okay.
A fifteen-minute skit script had only about three to four thousand words. Considering everyone’s suggestions, revisions weren’t slow—it just required going over it repeatedly.
Sometimes changes at the end caused earlier parts to feel off, requiring further revision. In short, it was labor-intensive.
After finishing, the four gathered around the table to rehearse the lines, tweaking awkward, incoherent, or unclear phrasing until the final draft was complete.
“Finally done—” Gu Qinghuan flopped onto the table. “I didn’t expect just polishing the script would be so much work. I really underestimated acting.”
Le Yi’s gaze wandered.
How should he put it? He was actually treating these students with professional standards.
Although they didn’t need to reach professional levels, compared to many entertainers in the industry who can’t even memorize lines, they had indeed worked hard.
Le Yi sent the revised electronic script to Gu Qinghuan to forward to Yu Yuan and Lu Jian.
“I’ll submit the program registration to the student council,” he said. “I’ll contact the production team for props and costumes and aim to finalize it by the weekend.”
Gu Qinghuan immediately created a group chat and shared the script there.
“Doesn’t the student council provide props and costumes?” Lu Jian asked.
The PD explained, “Our program has its own budget, so we don’t rely on Mingde.”
“Is this expense reimbursed by the production team?” Gu Qinghuan asked curiously.
“Based on the theme, your program can apply to borrow school tables and chairs. As for costumes… Mingde has school uniforms, but usually they can’t be identical to reality, so extra preparation is needed,” the PD explained. “This part also has a budget limit, so please be mindful.”
Um, Yu Yuan hesitantly raised her hand. “If students prepare their own props, is that okay?”
The PD responded politely: “For fairness, props prepared by students may be reviewed.”
Gu Qinghuan understood. Mingde had many wealthy students; if everyone prepared their own, it could turn into a material competition, negatively affecting the program. Hence, stricter control.
“Then we’ll rely on Le Yi,” Gu Qinghuan said, pressing her hands together. “Please post clothes in the group before choosing—we want to decide!”
Le Yi stared at her. “Are you worried I’ll pick ugly clothes?”
Gu Qinghuan remained calm: “Clothes aren’t about beauty, only suitability. I just worry our tastes might differ.”
Le Yi nodded, thinking it reasonable. “I’ll post them in the group, and you choose.”
“The weekend is coming. I hope you can spare at least one full afternoon for rehearsal,” Le Yi added.
The three students checked their schedules and decided to dedicate Sunday entirely to rehearsal, moving other plans to the weekend.
“I’m free both days, so I’ll come Saturday too,” Gu Qinghuan raised her hand. “Should we gather intelligence on the other three teams tomorrow?”
Le Yi looked at the PD and then nodded. “Nothing in the rules forbids it—you’re free to act.”
In fact, the production team was looking forward to Le Yi and Gu Qinghuan roaming the other teams—it would add more viewing interest.
The first day of Le Yi’s group ended efficiently.
The three students returned home, leaving at roughly the usual time, while Le Yi stayed for the day’s summary interviews.
After dinner, Gu Qinghuan reluctantly received classmates’ notes from the day.
Homework could be avoided, but class content couldn’t. She asked questions while feeling life was too harsh.
Jiang Chuchu suddenly popped up in the chat: [This undercover can’t last even a minute [Reload.GIF]]
Gu Qinghuan immediately perked up: [Quick, spill the tea!]
Jiang Chuchu: [Ye Weiyu’s team is set. Four backup dancers: two fans, one study ace, and Lin Xiaoxue.]
The class group chat flooded with ellipses.
Jiang Chuchu: [Two fans—looks like one girlfriend fan, one mom fan. The ace is giving orders in a small chat group. Lin Xiaoxue hasn’t said much yet.]
Qin Yue: [Too tragic…]
Xie Xiangxue: [How could Lin Xiaoxue end up there!]
Jiang Chuchu: [I peeked at the group. According to the fans, when Ye Weiyu chose team members, a boy accompanied Lin Xiaoxue.]
Bao Qingsong: [Could it be…]
Jiang Chuchu: [Yan Zhengqing.]
Yao Shali: [Looks like he really got to grab Jin Ding’s arm.]
Yu Xin: [This is fine. Ye Weiyu will probably use Lin Xiaoxue to approach Yan Zhengqing. Chuchu, keep an eye!]
Jiang Chuchu: [I’ll try.]
Gu Qinghuan: [Imagine you’re a sniper lying in the dark, waiting for the right moment!]
Jiang Chuchu: [Stop imagining.]
Jiang Chuchu: [You seem pretty happy. How was filming today?]
Jiang Chuchu: [No need to say—it’ll be online soon.]
Gu Qinghuan didn’t want to look at her phone anymore. Studying felt more interesting.
Time quickly reached 9 PM. The first episode of Walking With the Light began on time.
Class 3 students prepared snacks, having managed to commandeer the living room TV from their parents, proudly declaring: “Our school’s program is starting tonight—we have to watch!”
Minutes into the broadcast, Gu Qinghuan and Le Yi’s conversation sparked some online buzz.
Happy Friday: “Luckily we aren’t filming right now.”
Gossip Lovers: “Ahhhh I laughed so hard! I want to know sister’s mood now.”
Your Roach is Here: “Just about to scold YY Dad’s vibe, but sister stole my lines.”
When the Snow Melts: “Sister stealing lines is top-tier. She also stole Le Yi’s lines in the trailer.”
Class 3’s chat was even livelier than online.
Xu Xinghe: “@Gu Qinghuan, class president, did you see?”
Song Yi: “@Gu Qinghuan, sis! There’s a camera in the car!”
Jiang Chuchu: “@Gu Qinghuan hahahahahaha”
Gu Qinghuan: “Enough! Don’t @ me anymore!!!”
