Chapter 140: Talent Showcase
The camera appeared outside the classroom. Jiang Xinyue didn’t pretend not to see it and continued teaching; after all, these past few days were supposed to be coordinated with the program.
She temporarily put down her textbook and politely asked Ye Weiyu, “Are you here to find team members?”
“Actually, I’m mainly here to apologize,” Ye Weiyu said with a shy, somewhat embarrassed expression.
It had to be said—Ye Weiyu’s appearance matched the “pure boy-next-door” image very well. Many fans were drawn to his looks alone.
The students in Class 3: Ugh…
Now he said he was here to apologize. What about before? Weren’t all the disruptions because the filming officially started and he wanted to perform in front of the camera?
Ye Weiyu had already coordinated with the PD. The PD now brought the topic up: “Speaking of apologies, what happened?”
Ye Weiyu lowered his head apologetically: “When I was checking things in the school earlier, I disturbed Class 3’s PE lesson.”
Yu Xin felt a little relieved that Gu Qinghuan wasn’t present—although with Gu Qinghuan’s personality, she probably wouldn’t bother with someone like him, but Yu Xin didn’t want her to hear such a disgusting excuse.
Song Yi and Ai Ning clenched their fists. Why didn’t he mention the part where he caused Gu Qinghuan to fall?
Yao Shali smirked inwardly. She glanced around, giving a subtle signal: I’ll take this one.
The surrounding students: Go ahead, we’re already disgusted anyway.
Yao Shali continued from where Ye Weiyu left off: “Oh, I remember now. Yesterday, you popped up from the sidelines and interfered with our disciplinary committee’s basketball game.”
She didn’t give Ye Weiyu a chance to speak further and immediately called Jiang Chuchu: “Disciplinary committee, he’s here to apologize to you!”
Now, the topic no longer involved Gu Qinghuan. The class president had her duties; this “fish” could be handled by Class 3 themselves.
Jiang Chuchu first asked Jiang Xinyue, “Teacher, should I go out and talk to him?”
Jiang Xinyue consented, and Jiang Chuchu got up, leaving the classroom to meet Ye Weiyu in the small courtyard outside.
Class 3’s classroom was on the first floor. Normally, during breaks, students would go to the courtyard to move around. In winter, only a few pine trees retained greenery.
Jiang Chuchu stood in front of Ye Weiyu, still commanding before the camera: “It’s really not a big deal, you don’t have to be so polite.”
Ye Weiyu’s smile stiffened for a moment.
Of course, he didn’t want to apologize. With cameras rolling, his apology could very well be edited into tonight’s broadcast, exposing him to public judgment.
But he endured the humiliation.
As long as Jiang Chuchu joined his team and word got out that his teammate was the daughter of the Yongchang Group, it would surely attract a lot of attention.
Besides, once Jiang Chuchu joined his team, she would have to follow his lead, giving him ample opportunity to “return the favor.”
According to Tang Huocai’s advice, Ye Weiyu said sincerely: “Actually, besides apologizing, I have another favor to ask of Miss Jiang.”
Jiang Chuchu’s eyes narrowed. Here it comes—she wouldn’t let this title slip by unnoticed.
She struck immediately, raising an eyebrow: “Do you even know who I am?”
Ye Weiyu politely replied: “Yes. I have a friend who knows you and reminded me.”
Jiang Chuchu remained unconcerned. “What do you want me to do?”
“I’d like to invite you to join my team and perform together,” Ye Weiyu said immediately.
Jiang Chuchu studied him carefully. Honestly, she wanted to make things difficult for him a bit more—delaying him for a day wasn’t bad.
But on second thought, joining the team early would let her investigate Ye Weiyu sooner, so there was no need to waste time.
“What kind of performance?” Jiang Chuchu asked.
Her tone suggested there might be some interest, maybe out of consideration for Tang Huocai.
Ye Weiyu thought to himself: if he could change the attitude of the Yongchang Group’s daughter, Tang Huocai’s background must be quite influential.
He cleared his throat: “Regarding the performance, I have a preliminary idea—it’s a talent showcase.”
Ye Weiyu’s plan was to sing in front, then set up a wall of rice paper. Jiang Chuchu would splash ink, writing poetry or lyrics related to the song, while a few students would serve as backup dancers.
Frankly, it was a decent idea. Jiang Chuchu felt that writing poems tied to the song, or an inspirational song like Ode to the Young China, could raise the audience’s excitement.
Moreover, such a program would usually be scheduled near the beginning of the show to set the tone.
Jiang Chuchu didn’t know whether the idea was Ye Weiyu’s own or suggested by someone else. Either way, it exceeded her expectations.
She subtly showed some interest: “Sounds not bad.”
Ye Weiyu smiled: “So, Miss Jiang, are you interested?”
Jiang Chuchu was noncommittal: “Contact me after you’ve gathered the backup dancers. Also, just call me Jiang Chuchu—no need for ‘Miss Jiang.’”
She could already imagine: once the show aired tonight, many viewers would wonder why Ye Weiyu was so polite to her and try to figure out her identity.
Jiang Chuchu hadn’t hidden her identity; it didn’t matter if it got exposed. But the thought of others being led by Ye Weiyu to investigate her made her uneasy.
To Ye Weiyu, her response was essentially an agreement.
He smiled confidently at the camera: “I’d say that’s already half accomplished. Since Jiang Chuchu agrees, let’s go find the backup dancers!”
Jiang Chuchu returned to class. Jiang Xinyue breathed a sigh of relief: “Finally gone, we can focus on class.”
Her gaze fell on the empty seat in front of Jiang Chuchu: “The monitor isn’t here today—is she filming a program?”
“Yes. She joined Le Yi’s team. Supposedly, she’s performing a skit and is busy finding actors,” Qin Yue blurted out.
Jiang Xinyue worried. Yu Xin immediately reassured her: “I’ll help Gu Qinghuan catch up on lessons she’s missed! Don’t worry, Teacher Jiang!”
The top math student’s promise reassured Jiang Xinyue. She knew Yu Xin and Gu Qinghuan were close and wouldn’t let her friend’s grades drop.
Jiang Chuchu busily wrote at her desk. Finding backup dancers wouldn’t be hard—just ask if any students in other classes were dance majors.
If they acted quickly, Ye Weiyu could finalize the group today.
Jiang Chuchu needed to organize the conversation from earlier, analyze Ye Weiyu’s personality and thoughts, and discuss next steps with Yu Xin.
When the bell rang, Jiang Xinyue left the classroom. Class 3 immediately closed the windows, doors, and drew the curtains. Yu Xin stood on the podium: “First, let’s tally who will be at school tomorrow.”
Excluding Gu Qinghuan, Yu Xin on the podium, and Jiang Chuchu (who would definitely attend), the remaining nineteen students all raised their hands.
Yu Xin remained calm: “Tomorrow is Saturday. Although the school allows students due to filming, we still need to explain things properly to parents.”
Students: “Understood!”
“Over the weekend, observe the situation of each group carefully. Report in the group chat in real-time. Be discreet and avoid being noticed. I’ll be coordinating at any time—stay alert.”
“Got it!”
“Remember to watch tonight’s program. Pay attention to live comments, reviews, and other platform trends. Report any issues immediately in the group. Don’t speak independently—discuss first, then guide appropriately.”
“Understood!”
Bao Qingsong flexed his fingers. This was his moment to shine—the heavy lifting was up to him!
