Chapter 129: Abnormal
Ye Weiyu mumbled a few vague responses and turned to leave. Tang Huocai handed her business card to Gu Qinghuan and said that if she had any issues, she should contact her, before following Ye Weiyu out.
Once they left, Qin Yue immediately scoffed, “So what if he’s been in a few variety shows? Big deal?”
Gu Qinghuan glanced at Tang Huocai’s card, casually shoved it into her pocket, then clapped her hands to draw everyone’s attention.
“Uh,” she cleared her throat twice, “actually, I suspect he might have come here specifically for me from the start.”
“Does he have a grudge against you?” Jiang Chuchu’s eyes sharpened.
“No, to be precise… he might have been coming for ‘Gu Qinghuan,’ and it just so happens that I am Gu Qinghuan,” Gu Qinghuan explained.
Everyone looked confused. “Huh?”
Yu Xin and Jiang Chuchu seemed to have a slight understanding. “Could it be related to that time with Le Yi?”
Mentioning Le Yi made everyone recall the previous situation.
Ming Xiaolan immediately said, “Maybe he knew Le Yi had invited you and wanted to swoop in and recruit you, but didn’t know what you looked like, so he searched for a while?”
Gu Qinghuan nodded, thinking that Bai Qingyin might also be involved—after all, she had received an invitation from Bai Qingyin as well.
Bao Qingsong widened his eyes. “So he plans to invite you… and this is his attitude?”
“Alright, let’s not bother with him anymore. Just knowing the situation is enough,” Gu Qinghuan said, clapping her hands. “I’ve already rejected him. But since I didn’t consult everyone, that doesn’t mean the whole class rejected him—sorry about that.”
“Class rep, you don’t need to apologize for that,” Ming Xiaolan said immediately. “Judging by his attitude, nobody in our class would want to join his team anyway.”
The rest of the classmates nodded in agreement. Exactly—who’d want to collaborate with someone like that?
“Fine,” Gu Qinghuan smiled. “Everyone, let’s continue playing. I want to get back to the game too.”
There was really no need to waste the rest of PE on someone like that. Everyone returned to their respective spots and continued playing.
“You’re really okay?” Jiang Chuchu asked.
“Honestly, it still hurts a bit, but it’s not a big deal,” Gu Qinghuan said. She tried running a couple of steps and felt fine, then immediately swung her racket again. “Come on, that last smash counts for me, right? Now it’s 6:5!”
Jiang Chuchu confirmed she was truly fine and continued playing.
By the end of the PE class, Gu Qinghuan had fully satisfied her craving for badminton and even managed to score 12 points in a game against Ming Xiaolan—a “good achievement.”
After class, Gu Qinghuan asked, “Chuchu, you mentioned investigating Le Yi yesterday… should we check on Ye Weiyu as well?”
Yu Xin, still irritated that Ye Weiyu had caused Gu Qinghuan to fall, said, “Compared to Le Yi, Ye Weiyu definitely needs to be investigated more.”
Ming Xiaolan chimed in, “Class rep, should we teach Ye Weiyu a lesson during filming?”
Gu Qinghuan looked at the sky. Everyone was really turning into a “mischief squad.”
She said seriously, “Not necessary for now. He just wanted to ride the hype. After taking a hit today, he’ll probably behave next time.
“After all, this is a personal matter. Dragging everyone else in would be too much. I’ll observe for now.
“Of course, if he does something else, I’ll ask for everyone’s help.”
Having said that, Ming Xiaolan nodded. “Got it. If needed, class rep, just let us know.”
Jiang Chuchu had already sent messages to investigate Ye Weiyu.
Since the last time they set up Class 12, Jiang Youwei had assigned an assistant to Jiang Chuchu—technically his secretary—to help her.
This secretary wasn’t just executing orders but also providing advice, and reporting some important matters to Jiang Youwei.
Jin Jubao had just finished organizing the collected information when Jiang Chuchu sent a new message. He froze.
Squinting at the screen, he read the text and finally exhaled in relief.
A colleague peeked over. “Big Miss, what does she want you to do now?”
“Same as yesterday—check up on a minor celebrity.” Jin Jubao sent Jiang Chuchu the files on Le Yi and continued organizing Ye Weiyu’s information.
Exactly! While investigating Le Yi, she had also looked up the other three—just needed to organize the info!
A competent secretary anticipates needs before the boss asks.
Although Jin Jubao had signed a supplementary contract with Jiang Youwei—reducing previous responsibilities and adding extra pay—she was still tense about being Jiang Chuchu’s assistant.
After all, Jiang Chuchu was the Jiang family’s eldest daughter. Jin Jubao worried about upsetting her and possibly being fired.
As Jiang Chuchu was polite and courteous, Jin Jubao gradually got used to working with her.
While organizing the files, Jiang Chuchu sent another message: “Also check the assistant Tang Huocai. No need to investigate her identity, just find out when she started and her past work status.”
Jin Jubao had never checked an assistant before and immediately felt discouraged—her preparation wasn’t enough!
She gulped a coffee. Time to work—tasks never end!
With a heavy “thud,” she set the cup on the table so forcefully that Tang Huocai worried it might break.
Ye Weiyu hung up his call with the manager, angrily tossed his phone onto the sofa, then drank the remaining cold water from his cup.
After leaving the gym, he had immediately called his manager, instructing them to ensure that nothing from the afternoon’s incident would appear in the trailer.
As expected, the manager got mad again, telling him not to cause trouble next time and to stay calm, before rushing to contact the show crew.
This time, Ye Weiyu had no ground to argue, only cursing silently.
It was all that girl Gu Qinghuan’s fault! Did Bai Qingyin and Le Yi go crazy? They actually wanted to recruit some random high schooler—what kind of vision is that?
Tang Huocai knew from experience that when Ye Weiyu was sulking, it was best to stay far away—but she also worried he might break something, so she didn’t leave the lounge.
She was thinking about how to calm him down when she heard him call her name. “Huocai.”
Tang Huocai froze. Not “Vivian”?
She remembered that when she had first introduced herself, Ye Weiyu had commented on her “old-fashioned” name and had always used her English name since.
Why call her by her real name now? Nervously, she stepped forward. “Yes?”
“That girl who’s really pretty—the one you called ‘Miss Jiang’—what’s her background?” Ye Weiyu asked, staring intently at Tang Huocai.
Tang Huocai explained, “She’s Jiang Chuchu, eldest daughter of Yongchang Group. Jiang Youwei is her father.”
Even with some mental preparation, hearing “Yongchang Group” made Ye Weiyu’s heart skip a beat.
Internally, he thought, this is dangerous, and his mind started working fast.
Attending the birthday of the Yongchang Group’s eldest daughter… what was Tang Huocai’s status? Jiang Chuchu clearly had some impression of her.
Ye Weiyu restrained the impulse to ask directly and smiled at Tang Huocai. “Good thing you were here. If I had offended the Jiang family’s eldest daughter, it would have been over for me.”
She wasn’t angry? Tang Huocai hesitated, pushing down the uncomfortable feelings welling in her chest, and simply bowed her head. “This is my duty as an assistant.”
“Let’s leave it at that for today. Once the trailer is out, tomorrow we can think about how to get more attention on the show,” Ye Weiyu said casually.
The use of “we” made Tang Huocai pause.
She quietly replied, “Okay.”
But the emotion inside her seemed to surge even stronger.
