Chapter 161: Solving the Problem, Mu Feiyu
Su Ning gazed intently at the reward she received for completing the [Endless Sea] monster-slaying mission—Deep Sea Mud.
It appeared as a clump of dark black, moist soil, but within it shimmered mysterious silver specks, making it especially eye-catching.
Through the identification ability of Scavenger’s Eye, Su Ning learned that this Deep Sea Mud possessed the magical power to purify polluted land.
“Although one piece of Deep Sea Mud can only purify one acre of land, its existence is undeniably exciting. With the help of Deep Sea Mud, people in other shelters will no longer be limited by harsh environments. They can grow more food to survive.”
However, acquiring this precious Deep Sea Mud was no easy feat. Su Ning couldn’t help but wonder how many people could actually complete the arduous task of slaying 100 sea monsters.
Still, the Deep Sea Mud in her hands wasn’t going to waste. Su Ning could fully use it to improve the soil conditions in the ‘Corpse Hell’ instance.
She thought with a touch of anticipation:
“I wonder if using Deep Sea Mud on land that’s not polluted would make it even more fertile?”
That was a question that would require real-world testing to answer.
While Su Ning entered the Foggy Home within the Corpse Hell instance to experiment with the Deep Sea Mud, reinforcements for Shelter No. 6 were already arriving quickly.
Tang Yuanbin arrived at Shelter No. 6.
However, because the shelter’s barrier had been damaged, the extreme cold from outside was now blowing inward, and many people couldn’t withstand the intense chill.
Tang Yuanbin came before Liu Jianjun, the commander of Shelter No. 6.
“Commander Liu, we understand your request. We’re not only here to help block the cold air caused by the explosion, and check whether any residents have been parasitized, but most importantly, to find out who’s behind all this.”
Liu Jianjun looked extremely troubled. He also wanted to find the true mastermind, but was powerless to do so.
The culprit had secretly implanted parasitic monsters into people’s bodies without detection.
Once the parasite matured, it would burst out from the host’s body, using it as a nutrient source—and ultimately killing the host.
Liu Jianjun had no idea why he’d been plagued with such bad luck lately.
It was as if he had been cursed.
The appearance of Tang Yuanbin from Shelter No. 3 was like a ray of hope for him. With Tang’s strength, Liu believed that once the mastermind was found, they could be easily dealt with.
But first, they needed to find the real perpetrator and also identify those who had already been parasitized within the shelter.
Liu Jianjun, feeling helpless, said:
“People in the shelter are panicked and uneasy. No one knows whether they’ve been parasitized. I’ll have to count on you, Captain Tang.”
He had also realized that his shelter severely lacked people with useful abilities, especially those that could check the safety of food.
Ever since Su Ning had been expelled, no one with a similar skillset had emerged.
Most believed the parasitic infections were transmitted through food.
Su Ning’s absence had become Liu Jianjun’s biggest headache.
“If only I knew then what I know now!”
He deeply regretted his decision—especially trading Su Ning to the Second Shelter in exchange for their promised Energy Shield.
But now? He didn’t get the shield, and he lost a major asset. The regret gnawed at him.
But what could he do? What’s done is done. There was no undo button for his mistakes.
Liu Jianjun thought to himself:
“If I hadn’t expelled Su Ning, would the people in my shelter still have been parasitized?”
He turned to ask Tang Yuanbin:
“Captain Tang, there are many people in need right now. Do your support teams have anyone with the ability to detect parasitism?”
This was something Liu had mentioned when he first called for help.
Tang Yuanbin reassured him:
“Don’t worry. Several shelters have sent people with similar abilities to help.”
Hearing this, Liu Jianjun finally breathed a sigh of relief—but he still couldn’t fully relax.
“Let’s begin the screening process right away!”
Among the rescue team from Shelter No. 5, a few members were surveying the surroundings.
Lin Lele peeked around curiously.
Nan Sheng cautioned her:
“Don’t wander around. We’re here to help, not to sightsee.”
“I know. But this is Shelter No. 6? The place where Su Ning used to live?” Lin Lele lowered her voice to a whisper, afraid anyone might hear she knew Su Ning.
She knew Su Ning was wanted and had been expelled from Shelter No. 6. To avoid causing her any trouble, Lin Lele spoke carefully with Nan Sheng.
Not long after returning from [Endless Sea], they’d received this urgent task from their shelter. Seeing the generous reward, Lin Lele had signed up immediately.
As one of the few with a healing ability, Nan Sheng had to come too.
“Too bad Gao Peng couldn’t come. Otherwise, our whole team would be back in action.”
Nan Sheng glanced at the file in her hands. She’d been assigned to treat injured residents of Shelter No. 6.
As she reviewed her tasks, she listened to Lin Lele’s chatter.
“We didn’t have a choice,” Nan Sheng explained. “Shelter No. 5 is already overcrowded. There’s even talk of building an Ice City outside—those ice houses are cold, but still better than the freezing temperatures outside. Gao Peng was assigned to that project, so he couldn’t come.”
Lin Lele sighed, then looked sympathetically at the injured residents.
“The people here are really pitiful… to think some of them were parasitized by monsters.”
The thought of having a creature inside her, growing and feeding off her, then bursting out violently—it made her skin crawl.
“Ugh. I really hope we catch whoever’s behind this. It’s so disgusting!”
Nan Sheng reassured her:
“Don’t worry. Officer Mu from our shelter is here too. With him around, we’ll definitely find the hidden enemy.”
Nan Sheng looked up when Lin Lele didn’t respond—only to see her staring with hearts in her eyes, practically drooling.
Lin Lele swooned like a fangirl:
“Officer Mu is so hot. Handsome face, amazing body… I just want to touch him!”
Nan Sheng stared at her in disbelief.
“Get a grip! Focus on your job!”
But Lin Lele was completely lost in her fantasy and ignored her entirely.
The one leading Shelter No. 5’s team was none other than Officer Mu Feiyu.
He was a handsome and charismatic man, with striking looks and a strong, athletic build.
Soon, the team leaders all gathered.
Tang Yuanbin led them to Liu Jianjun.
Tang spoke directly:
“I’ll keep this short. You were all briefed on the situation before coming. Time is tight. We need to act fast.”
His tone was serious, and everyone could feel the urgency.
Mu Feiyu stepped forward. His deep voice was firm:
“Captain Tang, rest assured—we understand how important this mission is. Let’s begin immediately. The sooner, the better.”
His gaze was steady and confident, inspiring instant trust.
Everyone knew Mu Feiyu, from Shelter No. 5.
He possessed a one-in-a-million talent: Identification.
This allowed him to accurately assess the authenticity and value of both people and items.
This talent was vital for their mission.
