Chapter 296: A Long, Long Corridor
Fang Xiaocao rushed to the woman’s bedside, brushed away the hair from her face, and only when she saw the woman’s pretty face under the hair did Fang Xiaocao breathe a sigh of relief.
Her guess was right, it was indeed Hummingbird.
“Hummingbird, Hummingbird…”
Fang Xiaocao patted Hummingbird’s pretty face, gently calling her name.
She called a few times, but Hummingbird didn’t respond.
But seeing Hummingbird’s faintly rising and falling chest, Fang Xiaocao knew that Hummingbird was fine.
Fang Xiaocao picked up the dagger, cut the leather belts binding Hummingbird’s limbs, and staggered to the table, picked up her and Hummingbird’s clothes, and returned to Hummingbird’s bedside.
Enduring the severe pain in her hands, she put on her clothes, put her weapons back in place, leaned against Hummingbird’s bed, sat on the ground, used the dagger to cut the white sheets under Hummingbird into strips, and used her intact hand and teeth to bandage her bloodied hand.
“I wonder if it will get infected…”
Leaning against Hummingbird’s bed, looking at her hand wrapped in the sheets, Fang Xiaocao muttered to herself.
“Sigh…”
She sighed, cocked her gun.
With her good hand, she gripped the gun tightly, a cold glint flashed in Fang Xiaocao’s eyes.
It was all the fault of the people who tied her and Hummingbird to the bed.
She had to endure such excruciating torture to save herself. As for whether she had misunderstood them, Fang Xiaocao wasn’t worried about wrongly accusing them at all.
What kind of good people would strip two unconscious girls down to their underwear and tie them to a bed?
Would a normal person do that?
Fang Xiaocao had a guess in her mind.
The people who tied her and Hummingbird up.
They were likely the people from the mysterious pawnshop that Taotie mentioned. She and Hummingbird might have become living organ transplant packages, raised by the pawnshop.
Once their organs were successfully matched, she and Hummingbird would be pushed into the operating room, their organs would be removed while they were still alive, and then their bodies would be thrown into the cannibal rat nest that Taotie and Tom had burned down.
“Humph…”
Just as Fang Xiaocao was lost in thought, Hummingbird on the bed behind her let out an unconscious groan.
Fang Xiaocao was overjoyed, knowing that Hummingbird was about to wake up.
Fang Xiaocao held onto the edge of the bed and stood up.
She gently patted Hummingbird’s pretty face, “Hummingbird, Hummingbird, wake up…”
As if hearing Fang Xiaocao’s call, Hummingbird frowned slightly, her eyelids began to twitch rapidly.
“Hummingbird…”
“Hummingbird…”
In Fang Xiaocao’s calls, Hummingbird slowly opened her eyes, looking at Fang Xiaocao with a dazed expression.
“Pri…Princess…”
Hummingbird called out to Fang Xiaocao in a hoarse voice.
Fang Xiaocao smiled and hugged Hummingbird tightly.
“It’s good you’re awake…”
“It’s good you’re awake…”
Fang Xiaocao repeated these two sentences.
Tears flowed uncontrollably.
Hummingbird was awake, she could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The pain and loneliness, coupled with her tense nerves, had put Fang Xiaocao’s spirit on the verge of collapse.
Now that Hummingbird was awake, she finally had someone to share her fear.
Hummingbird put her arm around Fang Xiaocao, gently patted her back, and said softly, “Princess, be good, don’t cry, Hummingbird is here, don’t be afraid…”
In Hummingbird’s soft words of comfort, Fang Xiaocao’s collapsed emotions gradually eased.
Fang Xiaocao intermittently told her guesses and experiences, as well as the process of self-rescue.
After listening to Fang Xiaocao’s story, Hummingbird glanced at Fang Xiaocao’s blood-stained bed and her hand wrapped in the sheet, still oozing blood, and a hint of ruthlessness flashed in her eyes.
“Phew…”
Fang Xiaocao let out a heavy breath, feeling much better, and shyly struggled out of Hummingbird’s arms, handing her the clothes beside her, “Put on your clothes quickly, let’s find a way to escape and find Taotie and Tom.”
Hummingbird nodded, took the clothes.
She dressed in front of Fang Xiaocao.
Fortunately, their equipment backpacks were still there.
Nothing was taken away.
This also made Fang Xiaocao breathe a sigh of relief.
Everything else could be lost, but her phone, which could contact her future self, couldn’t be lost.
Although she had lost contact with Hot Noodles since entering the tomb, and her messages to Hot Noodles had all gone unanswered.
But Fang Xiaocao knew that this was only temporary. Perhaps Hot Noodles was busy with something and couldn’t reply to her messages.
Or perhaps she was in the tomb, constantly facing various dangers and choices, and Hot Noodles was caught up in her experiences and couldn’t spare the time.
Fang Xiaocao believed that as long as she was in real danger, Hot Noodles would send her messages as before, reminding her of the danger.
Hummingbird dressed neatly, picked up Fang Xiaocao’s backpack, found the small refrigerator for storing vaccines, took out a tetanus vaccine, injected Fang Xiaocao, packed up, helped Fang Xiaocao put on her backpack, put on her own backpack, and walked to the door with her gun.
Seeing this, Fang Xiaocao also took her gun and came to Hummingbird’s side. Hummingbird glanced at Fang Xiaocao, Fang Xiaocao understood, nodded, raised her gun and aimed at the door. Hummingbird held the gun in her hand, held up three fingers, and began to count down.
When the last finger clenched the gun handle, Hummingbird’s hand on the doorknob suddenly exerted force, and the tightly closed iron door of the room opened in response.
The moment the door opened, Hummingbird flashed out from behind the door, performed a tactical roll, rolled out of the room, raised her gun and aimed left and right, confirmed that it was safe, and then beckoned to Fang Xiaocao.
Fang Xiaocao immediately flashed out of the room, guarding Hummingbird’s back.
This was a long corridor, with rooms identical to theirs on both sides, even the iron doors were identical.
Fang Xiaocao and Hummingbird exchanged a glance.
Hummingbird pointed to the iron door opposite, signaling Fang Xiaocao to go over and take a look.
Fang Xiaocao nodded, tiptoed to the iron door, saw the small push-pull window on the iron door, turned off the safety of her gun, tucked it into her waist, reached out and gently pulled open the small window, and peered into the room.
The room was empty, without the people they had imagined, only a blood-stained bed, and directly above the bed, a shadowless lamp with no blind spots.
“It’s an operating room!”
“This should be the pawnshop!”
Fang Xiaocao whispered to Hummingbird.
Hummingbird nodded and leaned over to take a look.
Fang Xiaocao glanced at the long corridor, with more than a dozen rooms, and whispered, “Hummingbird, do you think Taotie and Tom might be in one of the rooms?”
Hummingbird shook her head, “No! We were able to escape. With their strength, if they were trapped here, they would have escaped and come looking for us long ago. Besides, Taotie and the others weren’t with us during the earthquake, they might not have been captured.”
Fang Xiaocao had to admire Hummingbird’s quick thinking and reasonable analysis.
