Chapter 258: Whether Yu Zhengqing Is Good or Bad Doesn’t Matter for Now
She truly hadn’t expected Yu Luo to be this ruthless. No matter what, wasn’t she still her grandmother? In this world, there was probably no other illegitimate granddaughter who would dare to personally kick her grandmother in the chest!
Yet, with their mouths stuffed with weeds, Old Madam Chen and the other two couldn’t say a word. All she could do was let her tears of despair fall continuously, mixing with the coal dust on her face, making her look even more ridiculous. Even begging for mercy wasn’t an option.
“I’ll give you a chance. Tell me where my real grandmother is, or today will be the day you truly die.”
The smile in Yu Luo’s eyes instantly turned icy. She crouched down beside Old Madam Chen and yanked out the weeds gagging her mouth.
Air rushed into her lungs, and Old Madam Chen gasped heavily before immediately glaring at Yu Luo with venomous eyes. The despair from just moments ago vanished.
“You wretched thing! I am your grandmother! How dare you lay a hand on me? You damned curse! So this is where you’ve been hiding, living a good life? This is treasonous and unfilial!”
“It seems she still hasn’t grasped reality. Since she has so much energy to curse and spew nonsense, let’s give her a good beating first, then hang her on the city wall. Let her starve for three days and nights and see if she can make it through.”
“Understood, Miss.”
Yu Luo slowly stood up, about to leave when her gaze fell on the bound Lady Lan and Yu Meiyao lying on the ground.
She hadn’t originally harbored much hatred toward Lady Lan, but since she had played a role in framing their family last time, Yu Luo saw no reason to show mercy.
Today, they were simply unlucky. If it had been an ordinary exile stealing a few baskets of corn from her, she might have turned a blind eye. But too bad…
“Mmm! Mmm!”
Seeing Yu Luo turning to leave, Lady Lan and Yu Meiyao panicked!
They didn’t believe they had any deep enmity with Yu Luo. If Old Madam Chen had to be hung on the city wall, so be it—but they didn’t want to share her fate!
Just as their muffled pleas for mercy reached Yu Luo’s ears, Old Madam Chen, who was being dragged toward the city gate, suddenly changed her tone.
“I’ll talk! Yu Luo, let me go, and I’ll tell you everything!”
Hearing Old Madam Chen’s sudden plea, Yu Luo paused, turning slowly alongside Yu Haojie. She raised a brow and smirked as she looked at the old woman.
“Hmm, so you’ve finally learned. Speak.”
Seeing the satisfaction in Yu Luo’s expression, Old Madam Chen seethed with hatred.
“You… untie me first. I’m an old woman; where could I possibly run? Xiao Luo, your grandmother was wrong. Haojie, my son, have them untie me. Mother is too old to endure this kind of suffering.”
Old Madam Chen’s mouth had never been this sweet before.
“Xiao Luo” and “Haojie”—hearing those words from her made Yu Luo and Yu Haojie feel utterly disgusted.
Looking at this pathetic display, Yu Haojie lost all patience. He waved a hand at the guards and turned away with Yu Luo, walking off without another word.
“Xiao Luo! Xiao Luo…!”
Old Madam Chen had never imagined that for the first time in her life, she had lowered herself before the two people she despised the most. She had forced herself to soften her tone, but instead of getting what she wanted, they left her behind without hesitation.
Her cries barely lasted two shouts before turning into pained wails.
The men surrounding her rained down punches and kicks, their blows landing like a torrential storm. The way Old Madam Chen screamed, even a pig being slaughtered wouldn’t sound as miserable!
Watching the scene from a distance, Lady Lan and Yu Meiyao quickly wised up. They no longer dared to beg Yu Luo and her father for mercy.
The agonized wails continued long after the father and daughter had walked away. It was unclear whether Old Madam Chen had screamed herself hoarse or if they had gone too far to hear her anymore.
“How long do you plan to keep Old Madam Chen hanging on the city gate? I doubt Yu Zhengqing will take three days before he comes looking for her.”
Yu Haojie glanced at his increasingly resolute daughter, feeling a surge of emotion.
This entire city had been built according to Yu Luo’s plans. He had only assisted, while she bore the burden of all the hard work.
Before they had transmigrated, he and Ye Jiamei had only seen their daughter as independent. But after arriving in this world, Yu Luo had shouldered all the responsibilities.
“Father, don’t tell me you’re feeling soft-hearted for that old hag?”
“How could I?!”
Yu Haojie’s face darkened instantly, his voice rising in protest!
When it came to dealing with the people who had murdered their past selves, their family was always of one mind. Besides, Old Madam Chen had immediately seized the first opportunity to frame them, sending Yu Zhengqing to kill them. For that alone, Yu Haojie would never forgive that venomous old woman!
“Good. That old hag may be old, but to me, she’s worse than a witch. Father, how is the poison in your body? Don’t forget that you couldn’t practice martial arts as a child because of it. And who do we have to thank for that? Old Madam Chen.”
“I know, I haven’t forgotten. I was just thinking… we shouldn’t kill Yu Zhengqing unless we have no choice. Whether his concern for me was real or fake, or whether he only acted in unity for survival on the road to exile, when you willingly left with the bandits, he and Yu Xiaoran genuinely wanted to go back and save you.
“Besides, we’ve made quite a commotion here, and our lives are now better than they ever were in the Marquis’ manor. Yet, he hasn’t come to interfere. That shows he still carries his pride but also perhaps feels too ashamed to face us.”
“Hmm. Whether Yu Zhengqing is good or bad doesn’t matter for now. I won’t kill him unless absolutely necessary. After all, we still need him to lift our criminal status. Life here is great, but being free from exile would be even better, wouldn’t it?”
“Exactly. If you understand that, then we should wait for Yu Zhengqing to come looking for us. Speak to him properly—don’t escalate tensions unnecessarily. If he can pressure Old Madam Chen into revealing the truth about my biological mother, she’ll be more likely to talk.”
“True. That old hag is too cunning, so anything she says under duress might not be entirely reliable. If we hear it from Yu Zhengqing, we can believe it a little more.”
Lady Lan and Yu Meiyao didn’t escape their fate either—they too were hung at the city gate.
If Old Madam Chen had cooperated earlier, Yu Luo would have only left them up there for a day. But since she insisted on stirring up trouble, Yu Luo saw no reason to hold back.
As night fell, the three women still hadn’t returned. Yu Xiaoyun grew anxious.
“Father, Grandmother, Mother, and Sister have been gone all day. Could they have been eaten by wild beasts? Should we go look for them?”
