Chapter 298: The Antique Car
The car that Xu Yuyou was pointing at could reasonably be called an antique.
It was a Lamborghini Countach manufactured over thirty years ago, a limited edition made for the 25th anniversary of the brand.
Xu Yuyou actually only found out what she was trying to snag once she arrived at the scene. Her eyes were full of admiration, as if she were a true car enthusiast.
But in reality, she only recognized the little bull logo on the front of the car.
Fang Qianqian, however, looked troubled and said, “Miss Xu, this car belongs to my cousin. I can’t make the decision.”
Xu Yuyou immediately said, “Miss Fang, I’m not trying to take the car from you. If it’s convenient, could you introduce me to your cousin? I’m willing to offer him a fair price.”
Hearing this, Fang Qianqian breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said, “Miss Xu, my cousin is here today. I’ll call him over right away.”
Fang Qianqian’s cousin, Fang Rui, arrived quickly.
The young man was good-looking, but his whole demeanor screamed of a spoiled rich kid.
True to Xu Yuyou’s first impression, as soon as Fang Rui saw her, his eyes lit up.
“Hey beauty, you want to buy my car? This car is my baby. I don’t usually sell it to just anyone. Actually, you don’t even have to buy it. The passenger seat is always open for you.”
Hearing her cousin’s inappropriate remarks, Fang Qianqian didn’t hesitate. She raised her foot and stomped hard.
Fang Rui yelped in pain, standing on one foot like a rooster while clutching the injured one, grimacing in agony.
“Fang Qianqian, are you insane? I’m going to tell Uncle! You’re bullying me!” Fang Rui shouted.
Fang Qianqian said a quick “excuse me for a moment” to Xu Yuyou, then dragged her unlucky cousin aside and whispered something sternly to him.
Xu Yuyou watched as Fang Rui’s expression visibly changed. When the two of them returned, Fang Rui had lost all his earlier arrogance and looked more like a scolded quail.
“Miss Xu, I didn’t mean anything by what I said earlier. I was just complimenting you… Someone as respectable as you wouldn’t make a big deal out of this and report me to my grandfather, right?” Fang Rui said nervously.
Fang Qianqian covered her forehead, wishing she could disown her stupid cousin on the spot. Who asks something so idiotic right in front of someone?
Xu Yuyou’s lips curved into a slight smile. She suddenly felt that dealing with idiots was actually kind of easy. She said, “I really do like your car. And you know, I don’t report business partners for small things. If you’re willing to sell the car to me, I’d be happy to treat you as a business associate.”
Fang Rui looked conflicted. He had wanted to give Xu Yuyou the car for free, but his family had been keeping a tight leash on him recently, and he was short on cash. Plus, he had only just bought the car and was reluctant to part with it.
Fang Qianqian cleared her throat, reminding her dumb cousin to think properly.
Fang Rui was ultimately too afraid. If Xu Yuyou made a big deal out of his earlier words and accused him of harassment, he would end up angering Lu Jingyao — and that would not end well.
The Lu family and the Fang family used to be on similar footing, but the Lu family had grown stronger with each generation. Even after raising a dozen grandchildren, the Fang family still hadn’t produced anyone as outstanding as Lu Jingyao.
Fang Rui said reluctantly, “Miss Xu, I bought this car just last week for 10 million Hong Kong dollars. Since you want it, I can give you a discount… Maybe 10% off?”
Xu Yuyou knew that buying the car was putting him on the spot, but she had her reasons. Seeing his reluctance, she didn’t want to press him further on the price.
She said, “You must have bought the car for the same reason as me — you really loved it. I wouldn’t want a fellow enthusiast to lose out. You’ve only had it for a week and probably haven’t even driven it much. How about this: I’ll pay 30 million Hong Kong dollars.”
Fang Rui, who had been sulking, immediately perked up when he heard the offer. He almost agreed right away but then, like a cautious little animal, turned to his cousin and asked, “Sis, can I accept this price? Is there a trap?”
Fang Qianqian glared at him. His voice was so loud that even Xu Yuyou could hear clearly. Wasn’t that like insulting someone to their face?
“Handle your own business!” Fang Qianqian snapped.
Xu Yuyou smiled and said, “Young Master Fang, if you’re worried the price is too high, I can have my lawyer draw up a professional contract right now. You can have the Fang family’s lawyer look it over. I’m just an impatient car lover who can’t wait to drive it away tonight.”
Fang Rui looked pleadingly at Fang Qianqian again.
Fang Qianqian said, “Miss Xu has thought of everything. You’re getting three times what you paid. Take the money and you can buy another car later.”
Fang Rui whined, “Sis, this is a limited edition! There’s only one in all of Hong Kong!”
Fang Qianqian rolled her eyes. “Just because Hong Kong has only one doesn’t mean you can’t buy another one abroad.”
Fang Rui gave an awkward laugh, bootlicking shamelessly, “Sis, you really are smart! No wonder you almost married Lu Jingyao!”
Without hesitation, Fang Qianqian raised her other foot and stomped hard on his uninjured one, gritting her teeth and saying, “Nobody would think you were mute if you stayed quiet!”
Fang Rui howled in pain again.
Turning back to Xu Yuyou, Fang Qianqian lowered her gaze politely and said, “Miss Xu, it’s true that I liked Mr. Lu before, but he never gave me the time of day. Please don’t mind my stupid cousin’s nonsense.”
Xu Yuyou nodded casually. She really didn’t mind. From what she had seen, Lu Jingyao acted as if he didn’t even know Fang Qianqian. However, she now understood where Fang Qianqian’s earlier subtle hostility had come from.
Xu Yuyou borrowed the Lu family’s legal team in Hong Kong to quickly draft a high-premium purchase contract.
Fang Rui held the contract, had a professional look it over, then signed it without hesitation. He also agreed to cooperate with the vehicle transfer the next day.
At this point, the banquet was only halfway through. Lu Jingyao knew Xu Yuyou had borrowed the legal team but wasn’t sure for what. When he heard she had bought a car at a premium, he simply raised his glass and said:
“Congratulations.”
Seeing Lu Jingyao, Fang Rui instinctively wanted to run.
One of Fang Rui’s uncles, overhearing the transaction, showed a thoughtful expression and asked, “The car you sold — was it the one you bought from Ding Sisi?”
