Chapter 36: Fourth Uncle, Please Have a Seat
Su Keke had originally only planned to shift some furniture around, but judging from Uncle’s tone, it seemed she could also…
Hehehe.
She rapidly tapped away on her phone and asked: Uncle, can I change the curtains and rugs and stuff like that?
Qin Mochen: Yes.
Su Keke: Uncle, I have to tell you—I just made some money! Hehe. Can I buy a few little things I like to put in the living room and bedroom?
Qin Mochen: Congratulations. Yes.
Su Keke: Thank you, Uncle!
Only after making sure the little girl on the other end wouldn’t send any more messages did Qin Mochen put his phone aside. He nodded apologetically to the man sitting opposite him.
“Shall we continue?”
The real-estate tycoon across from him smiled. “Someone who can make President Qin feel pleased, I presume? There was a smile in your eyes when you were texting.”
Qin Mochen raised an eyebrow noncommittally. “I’ll consider the cooperation you mentioned, President Cheng.”
The man paused for a moment, then smiled in understanding. “It seems President Qin has other pressing matters. I won’t disturb you further—let’s discuss the follow-up to the contract another time.”
—
After getting Qin Mochen’s personal approval, Su Keke excitedly told Assistant Wu all her various ideas.
After listening to the little girl’s requests, Wu Zongbo’s face twitched.
“Miss Su, are you serious?”
Su Keke immediately pulled up the message history and showed him Qin Mochen’s texts.
“Look! Uncle agreed himself.”
An hour later, the two returned loaded down with purchases.
Wu Zongbo had called in two helpers, who carried the newly bought items into the villa one by one.
“Thanks. I’ll handle the rest myself.”
Humming a little tune, Su Keke got to work with gusto.
Changing the curtains, replacing the rugs, moving this, shifting that…
When he saw that the little girl was even setting her sights on the study and Fourth Master’s bedroom, a nervous Wu Zongbo quickly reminded her, “Miss Su, maybe we shouldn’t touch the study and Fourth Master’s bedroom? I’m afraid Fourth Master might get angry.”
“How could he? Uncle is such a gentle person—he’d never get angry.”
Wu Zongbo really wanted to say that Fourth Master was not gentle at all. If he were, would people secretly call him the Cold-Faced Fiend?
But the little cutie was determined—and she had gotten Fourth Master’s consent—so he couldn’t say much more.
—
While the two were busy, Qin Mochen, who had originally planned to return early, suddenly remembered his eldest nephew and changed his route at the last minute.
Casually carrying a bag of fruit, Qin Mochen went to the hospital.
In the ward, Qin Junchi was chatting with a young nurse, making the girl giggle nonstop.
Qin Mochen pushed the door open directly.
The moment Qin Junchi saw him, he instantly lay back down, transforming into a frail beauty in a second.
Qin Mochen looked at him expressionlessly.
“Enjoying it here? How about staying a few more days?”
The man’s overwhelming aura frightened the nurse in the room. She hurried off with her bottles and trays.
Qin Junchi coughed awkwardly. “Fourth Uncle, I was just bored and joking around with the nurse. I really didn’t do anything. And I didn’t even plan on being hospitalized—my mom insisted I stay a couple more days for some full-body checkup. At first everyone crowded around me, but once they heard I was fine, they all ran off. Look how deserted it is here.”
Qin Mochen swept him with a look of disdain, then took an apple from the bag and tossed it at him.
Qin Junchi let out an exaggerated yelp. “I didn’t get killed by the car, but I’m about to be smashed to death by Fourth Uncle’s apple!”
Then he picked up the apple, looked it over, and complained, “Seriously, Fourth Uncle? Are you just sending off a beggar?”
But the moment he met his Fourth Uncle’s dark, bottomless eyes, Qin Junchi immediately swallowed and forced a dry laugh.
“Fourth Uncle coming to see me really makes this humble place… uh… shine.”
“You really think I came to see you?” Qin Mochen suddenly asked.
That one sentence scared Qin Junchi half to death—he almost rolled off the bed to grab his uncle’s leg.
“Fourth Uncle, I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!”
Qin Mochen: “Heh.”
Qin Junchi: “……”
“Qin Junchi, you’ve really grown up—now you even know how to show filial piety to me.”
Qin Mochen’s flat tone made Qin Junchi shudder all over.
Among the Qin family’s younger generation, he was the closest to this Fourth Uncle—but in truth, he both respected and feared him.
The Qin men were energetic, especially the old master, who was still lively as ever, which was why Qin Junchi had a Fourth Uncle only four years older than himself.
When Fourth Uncle was just thirteen, the old master had thrown him into the military for training. It was said he had taken on many special missions, narrowly escaping death several times. With his abilities, becoming the youngest general would have been no problem.
But during one mission, Fourth Uncle had nearly lost his life. After that, the old master forbade him from continuing down that path. He retired and turned to business instead.
Working while studying, he still managed to obtain a business degree from one of the world’s top three universities—truly impressive.
Now, Fourth Uncle’s businesses spanned countries across the globe, his wealth immeasurable. None of the Qin family’s younger generation could ever hope to surpass his achievements.
Perhaps because of his early training, Fourth Uncle had carried that ruthlessness into the business world. Sometimes, even Qin Junchi, his eldest nephew, found him frightening.
Feeling chilled, Qin Junchi forced a grin and said, “Fourth Uncle, please sit down. Let me explain everything properly. With you standing there like a god before me, I’m so nervous I don’t even know what to say.”
Qin Mochen glanced at him lightly, then sat down on the nearby sofa. He crossed his legs casually, leaned back slightly, and looked at him.
“Fourth Uncle, look at you—this shabby little sofa almost turns into a throne the moment you sit on it. You’re just too handsome!”
Qin Mochen remained expressionless.
“Ahem… I really was just worried about you, Fourth Uncle. You’re so outstanding—fine if you look down on those socialite ladies who throw themselves at you—but you don’t even have someone close by who knows how to care for you. How lonely that must be. And Fourth Uncle, there’s one thing that’s really unbearable.
Do you know what people in our circle say about you? They say you’re not… capable! They say you’re an old virgin!
Listen to that—if a man can tolerate that, is he still a man?”
Qin Mochen smiled faintly but not quite. “I had no idea my eldest nephew cared so much about my reputation.”
Qin Junchi chuckled sheepishly. “Well, you’re my Fourth Uncle—how could I not care? I just happened to run into a little girl who practically delivered herself to my door, so I thought I’d show some filial piety to you. And instead of praising me, you scold me—that’s just not fair!”
As he spoke, Qin Junchi seemed to recall something and asked nervously, “Fourth Uncle… you didn’t touch that little girl, did you?”
Qin Mochen raised an eyebrow. “You’re the one who sent her over. Now you’re afraid I might have laid a hand on her?”
Qin Junchi suddenly grew serious. “Fourth Uncle, I think that little girl is kind of uncanny. She said I’d have a bloody disaster and told me to watch out for traffic safety—and then I really got into a car accident.
Fourth Uncle, don’t look at me now—I’m fine—but the situation back then was truly life and death. That big truck turned and charged straight at me. Somehow, I suddenly snapped alert and turned the wheel in time.
If I’d reacted even a fraction of a second slower, your nephew would already be dead!”
As he spoke, Qin Junchi patted his chest, lingering fear still written on his face.
