Chapter 8: Dumbfounded—and Silent
…Protective talismans?
Qin Mochen felt that he had somehow missed a very important piece of information earlier.
Just then, his phone rang.
The man answered. Whatever he heard made his brows knit tightly.
“Is it serious?”
“I understand. I’ll go see him tomorrow.”
“No rush. I happen to have some business to settle with him anyway.”
As soon as Qin Mochen hung up, Su Keke tilted up her little face to look at him. Her clear, watery eyes were shining brightly as she asked,
“Uncle, did something happen to Young Master Qin? Today I saw that his glabella was darkened. I figured he’d definitely have a bloody calamity today, so I gave him a protective talisman. A talisman can block one disaster—he shouldn’t be in any serious trouble now.”
Hearing this, Qin Mochen’s expression turned rather subtle.
Protective talisman… darkened glabella… bloody calamity…
He stared at the pink, tender little bell pepper in front of him for quite a while before suddenly asking, “Girl, what exactly is the profession you keep talking about?”
Su Keke replied in confusion, “Didn’t you know already, Uncle? A feng shui master.”
Seeing him immediately give her a strange look, she weakly corrected herself, “A feng shui master… apprentice?”
Qin Mochen pressed his thin lips into a tight line. His Adam’s apple moved slightly as he hesitated before saying,“So the profession you were talking about for so long just now… is a feng shui master?”
Su Keke asked innocently, “Otherwise, Uncle, could it be… something else?”
Qin Mochen: “……”
Qin Mochen’s expression shifted between light and dark, looking quite spectacular.
In outsiders’ eyes, the wise, decisive, and ruthless Fourth Master Qin had just done something incredibly stupid.
“Uncle, what’s wrong with you?” Su Keke asked.
“The ‘taking jobs’ you mentioned just now refers to…?”
“Doing feng shui and exorcising evil spirits. Master sets up a stall outside sometimes—people come to us for face-reading and divination, so there’s no need to travel far.”
At this point, Su Keke sighed emotionally.
“Uncle, don’t look at how many things I can do. I’ve only learned a bit of each. Master says I should specialize in one field, but I like all of them—I want to learn everything.”
Qin Mochen fell silent.
After a long while, he asked again,“Then why did you insist on going into the master bedroom just now?”
“Uncle, do you really want to hear it? I’m afraid you won’t believe me if I say it.”
Qin Mochen pursed his lips. “Go on.”
“There’s a five-hundred-year-old seductive ghost hiding in your master bedroom bathroom. She seems to have taken a liking to you, Uncle, and was planning to drain you tonight. Two days ago, that ghost nearly harmed my client, so the client asked me to come and get rid of her.
Hehe, I pasted talismans on the door and drew a formation. She’s like a trapped beast—she can’t escape. It’s just that this seductive ghost has actually learned object manipulation. She even used water to soak my talismans!”
Ordinary little ghosts can’t touch physical objects—their souls pass straight through them. Only old ghosts with cultivation can control material things.
As she said this, Su Keke puffed out her cheeks slightly, clearly annoyed.
“Drawing talismans isn’t hard, but the yellow talisman paper I use is all old stock my master has kept at the bottom of his trunk. It’s been nourished by the primordial energy of heaven and earth for a full ten years—ordinary talisman paper can’t replace it…”
Listening to the little girl’s nonstop muttering, Qin Mochen fell silent once more.
Bathroom, seductive ghost, yellow talisman paper, primordial energy of heaven and earth…
“Uncle, my work here is done. Since I promised Young Master Qin that I’d please you, I’m starting now.”
The uncle stiffened his face and gave a low “Mm,” still thinking about what exactly the “pleasing” she mentioned meant.
But whatever it was, it definitely wasn’t what he’d originally imagined… that kind of thing.
Su Keke began, her rosy little mouth opening and closing: “A crow got thirsty and saw half a bottle of water in a bottle. It thought of dropping pebbles into the bottle, so it found a stone and tossed it in. And then, Uncle, guess what happened? The stone got stuck in the mouth of the bottle! Hahaha…”
Su Keke laughed herself silly. Seeing that he didn’t laugh, she abruptly stopped.
“Uncle, isn’t it funny? Then I’ll change to another one.”
“On a cliff, a little mouse waved its short front paws and jumped down again and again, trying hard to learn how to fly. A mother bat watching nearby saw it smash itself bloody and said worriedly, ‘Its dad, should we tell it that it’s not our biological child?’ Hahaha…”
Su Keke laughed so hard she bent over, the little dimples on her cheeks trembling along with her laughter.
Qin Mochen looked at the adorable little bell pepper in front of him, his expression… indescribable.
