Chapter 441: Extra Story 7
Jiang Jinwei was dressed very plainly, and her thin figure reminded Su Tao of Li Lianrong.
Su Tao didn’t greet her, nor did she speak.
Zhuo Ercheng was even more ruthless—he sized Jiang Jinwei up and down before frowning and asking, “Who are you?”
Where did this country bumpkin come from? And why was she calling him “Ercheng”? It startled him into thinking some ex-girlfriend had come to demand money or property. But there was no way he would be interested in a woman like this.
Jiang Jinwei couldn’t believe it. “Ercheng, you don’t recognize me?”
Zhuo Ercheng was shocked—no way, is she really an ex?
He frantically searched his memory for any trace of this country bumpkin, filled with self-doubt.
Just then, a burly man stomped over and grumbled at Jiang Jinwei in a gruff voice:
“Why are you standing there? I paid for the tickets—are you just gonna waste time?”
Jiang Jinwei, with red eyes, looked back and forth between Zhuo Ercheng and the man in front of her. This man was her husband, the father of her younger son.
Uneducated, tasteless, and miserly—aside from his brute strength that kept her and her children fed, he had no redeeming qualities.
Seeing her former lover again, still as handsome and distinguished as a year ago, made her heart ache. It was rumored that Zhuo Ercheng had even taken over as the leader of Xindu.
If she hadn’t broken up with him, she wouldn’t have been reduced to marrying a rough man just to survive.
She could still be living a life of luxury, dining in the finest establishments of Xindu, indulging in the rarest delicacies of the post-apocalyptic world, with drivers and servants attending to her every need…
The thought filled her heart with bitterness and resentment, and she unconsciously clenched Tangdou’s hand.
The child burst into tears, and the baby in her arms also started wailing.
The cries drew the attention of nearby onlookers, making the burly man feel humiliated. He grabbed Jiang Jinwei roughly:
“What the hell is wrong with you? If you wanna cry, do it at home. Keep this up, and I’ll beat you!”
Staggering under his grip, Jiang Jinwei refused to move. She just stood there crying, staring at Zhuo Ercheng.
The man finally sensed that something was off and followed her gaze.
Zhuo Ercheng was utterly horrified. “I swear, I don’t know her.”
His bodyguards quickly formed a protective wall in front of him—reporters would be arriving soon, and they couldn’t risk any scandals.
Zhuo Ercheng’s assistant stepped forward, flashing his ID and introducing himself. The burly man’s face instantly changed when he realized he was dealing with a high-ranking government official. Bowing and scraping, he dragged Jiang Jinwei away.
She screamed “Ercheng” twice, crying as if her heart were breaking, but was silenced by a slap and carried off.
Zhuo Ercheng was still shaken. In a low voice, he asked his assistant, “Did I really date her?”
The assistant pulled up his communicator, scanned a list of ex-girlfriends, and hesitated before replying, “It seems… she might be Boss Su’s half-sister.”
Zhuo Ercheng: …Oh, great.
Back home, the burly man locked Jiang Jinwei inside.
She pounded on the door, crying out, “Why are you locking me up? This is my house! Without me, you’d be homeless! I should never have married you!”
He sneered. “Without me, your whole family would’ve starved. And don’t think I don’t know about your past—was that government bigwig your old flame? Too bad he doesn’t even remember you.”
Jiang Jinwei’s cries stopped abruptly.
Outside the door, Tangdou pounded on the wood with her little fists, tears streaming down her face. “Let my mom out! You… you lousy man! You—waahhh!”
The man grabbed her by the collar and growled, “Your mother’s been bad-mouthing me behind my back, huh? You’d better watch yourself, brat, or I’ll throw all of you out!”
At that moment, a drunken Su Jianming stumbled through the door. Hearing the commotion, he slurred, “What now? Cry, cry, cry—that’s all you do! Hic!“
Tangdou ran to him, still crying. “We saw Auntie today at the amusement park! After Mom saw her, she started crying, and now this man wants to kick us out!”
To her, it was simple—every time her aunt showed up, something bad happened. She hated her.
Su Jianming’s addled brain cleared slightly. “Auntie?”
Oh right, he had another daughter. The heartless one.
Still alive, huh? Hic.
Slumping to the ground, he reflected bitterly on his life—his career lost, his house gone, his children all ungrateful and useless. What a joke.
The burly man, still fuming, opened his communicator and pulled up the latest news.
“Is this her?” he demanded, showing Sugar Bean the screen.
She pointed to the screen. “Yeah! That’s Auntie! Why is she on TV?”
The man nearly exploded with anger. “You old fool—if I had a daughter like that, I’d be living in luxury by now! Do you even know who she is? She’s the reason the apocalypse is ending and Xindu is thriving!”
“Didn’t you see all those leaders fawning over her today? One word from her, and I could get a cushy government job! We could be living in Xindu’s finest district, drinking the best liquor with our own private wine cellar!”
He was practically foaming at the mouth.
To think he married into a family that had such a valuable connection—only to lose out because they’d offended her beyond repair.
Su Jianming, still dazed, crawled over and picked up the communicator, replaying the news clip again and again.
When he finally set it down, he lay on his back, staring at the ceiling—and burst into laughter.
“Hahaha—”
How pathetic and laughable.
The daughter he had always scorned and ignored turned out to be his greatest missed opportunity and life’s biggest regret.
But that hope had long been cast away by him, and no matter how much he wanted to reclaim it, it was already out of reach.
