Chapter 423: The Zombie Actually Dug Out Its Own Brain!
It stepped into Su Tao’s Absolute Control zone.
The feeling was too… indescribable. It was as if the zombie trapped inside had become something she could completely control.
From every angle, she could “see” it, and with just a thought, she could make it freeze in place, walk east without turning west, kneel down, lie flat, or even pick up a gun lying nearby and blow its own brains out.
If she had to describe this sensation, it was like she was a player sitting in front of a computer, controlling a character in a game to do whatever she wanted.
Living or non-living—everything was under her command.
Absolute Control—true to its name.
No wonder the ability consumed so many crystal cores. This was complete God Mode. On her turf, she ruled.
Su Tao fell into deep thought. Maybe, just maybe, she could single-handedly capture all the mutated zombies wreaking havoc in Shou’an City.
Without hesitation, she removed the barrier surrounding the mutated zombie and froze it in place.
Sure enough, before long, another mutated zombie slaughtering people on the other side approached.
When it saw its companion frozen stiff, with only its eyes moving, it quickly walked up, intending to ask what was happening—only to realize it couldn’t move either.
And so, within an hour, Su Tao—without even leaving her office in Taoyang—used the same method to remotely capture three mutated zombies and imprison them in her domain.
But she knew there had to be more zombies involved in the massacre.
After all, she still hadn’t seen the “Siren” zombie that Changjing had put out a bounty on.
She wanted to extend her Absolute Control to cover the entire Shou’an base and capture every zombie—but unfortunately, Shou’an was much larger than Dongyang, and she didn’t have nearly enough crystal cores to cover it.
Catching these three was already a miracle. Without this new ability, capturing even one bone-winged zombie would have cost a fortune and rivers of blood.
Meanwhile, the warlords holed up in Shou’an Base were utterly stunned.
From their fortified lookout towers, they watched through binoculars.
What the hell just happened? Why were the three bloodthirsty zombies frozen in place as if they’d been paralyzed?
The survivors nearby didn’t dare to move either.
Su Tao didn’t care what the others thought—she was more worried about how to kill the mutated zombies.
She tried making them shoot themselves, but whether it was a regular handgun or a crystal-energy gun, the damage was only superficial. It couldn’t finish them off.
The Shou’an warlords were even more dumbfounded.
Wait—where did those guns come from?
What the hell—why are they shooting themselves?!
And why are they so badly injured?
Even though the crystal-energy guns couldn’t kill them outright, they left the three zombies with horrific wounds—half their bodies were blown to pieces.
The survivors, seeing the zombies in such a state, finally found the courage to crawl away.
A mother, who had been trembling in fear with her daughter, stared at the scene in disbelief. She instinctively looked toward the sky—was heaven itself protecting them?
After torturing the three zombies for a while, Su Tao suddenly thought of Jiang Tong.
As painful as that memory was, it gave her an idea—maybe the only way to kill these zombies was to make them dig out their own brains.
So, she tried it.
First, she chose the zombie with the tentacles on its back.
Unfortunately, even though the zombie gouged into its own head and pulled out its crystal core, it didn’t die.
The crystal core was as solid as iron—impossible to crush.
The Shou’an warlords were beside themselves:
“Did… did that zombie just dig out its own brain?!”
“Its brain is hanging out, and it’s still alive!”
Everyone assumed the zombies had gone mad.
Not just the people in Shou’an—even the Siren zombie, who had been observing from a distance, was shocked.
It clenched its fists, its narrow, sinister eyes glinting with suspicion.
It had to find out what was happening.
It had worked so hard to gather these powerful allies—how could they suddenly lose control?
The original plan was to massacre Shou’an City, deliver a crushing blow to humanity, and then move south to attack Xindu, the largest human base.
But now, before the massacre was even complete, they had already lost half their forces.
This ruined everything!
It had taken so much effort to gather these six mutated zombies, and now three were gone—just like that.
Even their assault on Xindu had to be postponed.
What the hell is going on?!
Since Su Tao couldn’t kill the zombies, she decided to imprison them. She built high walls around them, keeping them contained and out of sight—no need to scare the remaining civilians any further.
Just as she exited the system interface, Zhuang Wan burst into the room, yelling:
“Boss! Boss! Bad news—Shou’an City has fallen! There’s a massacre happening inside! Changjing just got the report and is mobilizing heavy troops to provide backup! You—you can’t go! They say it’s all mutated zombies—several of them!”
Su Tao massaged her temples. “No need to go. It’s already under control. Call Changjing and tell them they don’t need to send troops.”
Using the ability had drained her energy more than expected.
Zhuang Wan was baffled. “What do you mean it’s under control? Why call Changjing?”
Wasn’t Shou’an in the middle of a massacre? If Changjing didn’t send reinforcements, everyone would be wiped out!
Soon, the only neighbors Taoyang would have left would be a bunch of bloodthirsty zombies.
Su Tao paused, realizing another headache—how was she supposed to explain the zombies’ bizarre behavior to Changjing?
But then, she laughed at herself.
Why bother?
The tenants in Taoyang were all witnesses—she hadn’t even set foot in Shou’an Base. If the zombies decided to lose their minds on their own, that wasn’t her problem.
No need to call Changjing—let them figure it out themselves.
Relaxed, she smiled at Zhuang Wan. “Never mind. Anyway, we’re not going to Shou’an. So, no need to worry. Now, go fetch Mr. Shen for me.”
She needed to ask Shen Wencheng if there was any method—besides the special serum—to kill mutated zombies.
After all, locking them up wasn’t a permanent solution.
Killing them was the only way to feel truly safe.
Zhuang Wan, relieved that Su Tao wouldn’t be risking her life in Shou’an, sped off to find Shen Wencheng.
Meanwhile, in Changjing, panic spread like wildfire.
The reports of organized, disciplined mutated zombies attacking human bases sent chills down everyone’s spine.
If just one mutated zombie was already a nightmare, a coordinated assault by several would be unstoppable.
The President’s face was grim.
“No matter what, deploy the troops immediately. Even if we save just one survivor, we cannot abandon them.”
The conference room fell silent.
Everyone knew that facing these mutated zombies meant walking into a death trap.
But they were soldiers—and protecting humanity was their mission.
Even if they couldn’t defeat the zombies, they would show them one thing:
Human lives are not so easily trampled.
