Chapter 296: The Stunning Little Kitten?
Su Tao was dumbfounded.
Her mind was filled with one thought—where on earth did her cat, Black Sesame, pick up someone else’s girl, have a baby, and now bring the mother and child back home?!
That long-haired white cat was stunningly beautiful. Even though it was a bit dirty, its elegance was impossible to hide—it was like a fallen princess.
But the little princess seemed very scared of people and quite fierce. She held the kitten in her mouth, growling lowly, while cautiously backing away.
Just as Su Tao took a step forward, the white cat got frightened, grabbed the kitten, and bolted.
Black Sesame meowed at her several times, but when she didn’t stop, he gave up and ran after her. In an instant, both cats disappeared into the night, leaving Su Tao standing there in utter confusion.
Hearing the commotion, Qian Lin came out of her room and asked, “What happened?”
While putting on her shoes, Su Tao explained, “My cat, black bean, brought a white cat home, and she had a kitten in her mouth. It looked like it wouldn’t survive much longer. I need to go find them.”
Qian Lin was stunned too, immediately jumping to the conclusion that the white cat and the kitten were black bean’s… affairs.
“I’ll go with you!”
The two of them tracked Black Sesame using his location tag for half an hour. But before they could find him, Black Sesame ran back on his own—this time carrying the little kitten in his mouth. He gently placed it at Su Tao’s feet.
The tiny kitten hadn’t even opened its eyes yet. Its fur was damp, as if it had just been born, and it wasn’t even strong enough to cry.
If not for the faint movement of its little head, Su Tao would have thought it was already dead.
Hurriedly, she took out a towel from her storage space and wrapped the tiny creature up.
Black Sesame meowed a few times, took a couple of steps in a certain direction, then looked up at Su Tao—
The next second, Su Tao saw everything through his shared vision.
That white cat had apparently escaped from a pet shop.
It was extremely distrustful and fearful of humans. The moment it got out, it hid inside an old, broken pipeline, too terrified to come out even though it was starving.
And that was where Black Sesame, who liked to patrol around, found it.
Because she was pregnant, the white cat was very defensive. The moment she saw Black Sesame, her fur bristled, looking ready to claw him apart if he dared take one more step closer.
On the first day, Black Sesame didn’t dare get too close. He slunk away in defeat.
The second day… Black Sesame brought over half a can of leftover cat food.
But by then, the white cat had already changed hiding spots.
However, Black Sesame had already “scouted” this entire area long ago—it took him less than ten minutes to find her again.
This time, because she was starving, the white cat couldn’t resist the smell of food. Ignoring everything else, she quickly devoured it.
Black Sesame tried to lure her home, promising there were endless cans of food waiting for her. But in the end, he was chased away again.
On the third day—today—when Black Sesame went to look for the white cat again, she had already given birth!
Su Tao clearly saw through his vision—three kittens were born!
But where were the other two?
The shared vision suddenly cut off, and Black Sesame bolted away.
Holding the barely-breathing kitten, Su Tao couldn’t shake the feeling that she had just become someone else’s unpaid nanny.
Black Sesame probably knew the kitten wouldn’t survive and had come to her for help.
A bad feeling rose in Su Tao’s heart—she feared that the other two kittens hadn’t made it at all. This one might be the only survivor.
She quickly told Qian Lin, “Let’s go back right now. We need to save this little one first.”
A Sleepless Night
Su Tao, Qian Lin, and Qian Rongrong took turns staying up all night to feed and help the tiny kitten relieve itself.
Shi Zijin wanted to join them, but Su Tao dismissed him, afraid that his rough hands might accidentally crush the fragile kitten.
For the first time, Major General Shi was heartlessly driven away. Feeling dejected, he returned to his room.
By the time dawn broke, the little kitten finally let out soft whimpers before falling asleep. Everyone sighed in relief.
Su Tao rubbed her forehead. “We really need to find its mother soon. Hand-feeding it is exhausting.”
Qian Lin and her daughter wholeheartedly agreed.
But there was no time to search today—an hour later, they had to attend an important event.
With no other choice, they decided to bring the kitten along.
Su Tao found a supply bag, lined it with a soft cushion, carefully placed the tiny kitten inside, and packed essential items like milk powder, a water bottle, and cotton swabs.
Shi Zijin reached out, offering to carry the bag for her.
Su Tao shook her head. “You’ll be busy dealing with people today. I’ll carry it so I can take care of the kitten.”
Ma Dapao had already been prepped to act as the public face of Taoyang, handling all the socializing for the next few days.
Naturally, Su Tao was more than happy to step back.
Shi Zijin had no choice but to let it go. “I’ve already sent people to look for Black Sesame and the white cat you mentioned. We should find them by tonight.”
If they didn’t, his dear Taotao would be stuck playing nursemaid day and night—how could she get any proper rest?
Su Tao nodded firmly. Being a mother was no joke.
Early that morning, Song Yuebin shamelessly showed up as well. He was the only one in their group without an official invitation and had to rely on Qian Lin to attend as her plus-one.
Sensing his awkwardness, Qian Lin took the initiative to ease the tension. “Come on, we’re about to leave.”
Song Yuebin answered somewhat sheepishly but was quickly distracted by two high-pitched kitten meows.
He froze. “A cat? Where?”
He had been searching for a cat for so long that he almost thought he was hallucinating.
Qian Rongrong, with dark circles under her eyes, pointed at Su Tao’s bag.
“We found a newborn kitten yesterday—so tiny, it nearly died.”
Song Yuebin’s eyes widened. “You found it?”
In the post-apocalyptic world, cats and dogs were considered luxury pets. Stray animals were incredibly rare—those with good breeding were captured and sold long ago, while the less fortunate ones became zombie food. There was barely any chance for stray cats to reproduce.
“Can I see it?”
His gaze was practically glued to Su Tao’s bag.
Seeing his eager expression, Su Tao sighed and unzipped it slightly for him. “It’s really small. We’re not even sure if it’ll survive.”
Song Yuebin took one look and froze. “A long-haired white kitten? It looks pretty good—”
He suddenly fell silent, as if recalling something, and then got excited.
“Boss Su, is this kitten for sale?”
Su Tao immediately zipped the bag back up. “It’s too small. Let’s keep it alive first.”
Selling it hadn’t even crossed her mind.
She didn’t need the money—she could easily trade other supplies for a high price. Selling a cat for status wasn’t worth it.
Though a bit disappointed, Song Yuebin wasn’t ready to give up. “If you ever need help, just call me. I’ll be there anytime.”
Su Tao asked, “Are you planning to give the kitten to that wealthy lady?”
Song Yuebin nodded. “That’s the idea. If you’re willing to part with it, I’d raise it myself for three months before handing it over.”
The kitten was too young, and he worried the lady wouldn’t know how to care for it properly.
Su Tao couldn’t help but point out, “Kittens change a lot as they grow. What if it turns out ugly in three months? That wealthy lady probably has high standards, right?”
Otherwise, Song Yuebin wouldn’t have spent so long searching for the perfect cat.
Clearly, the lady was very picky.
