Chapter 285: The Eldest Miss of the Chu Family
Killing people was what Lei Xing did best; he handled it without any psychological burden.
Su Tao looked at the man’s corpse for a moment, feeling that dying so quickly was letting him off too easily.
Lei Xing asked, “What about the woman?”
Su Tao replied, “Keep her. If the address is wrong, she might still be useful.”
In the end, Lei Xing called Fire Serpent over, and with one blazing fire, the man’s body was reduced to ashes, leaving no trace behind.
Su Tao decided that after the Alliance Summit, she would have Xu Qi take people to the north to bring back Jiang Tong’s remains.
She had promised Jiang Yu that no matter what, she would find his sister.
She overheard Jiang Yu muttering in the dark, “I don’t believe she’s dead.”
Su Tao didn’t know how to respond.
“I want to go look for her myself. Can I?”
Su Tao sighed, “If you want to go, of course, I’ll agree. But you need to be mentally prepared.”
Those two had no reason to lie—they had seen Jiang Tong’s body. The chances of her being alive were slim.
Jiang Yu was silent for a long time before replying with a slightly trembling voice, “I understand.”
“Alright then, you can go with Xu Qi when the time comes. Don’t worry about things on my end.”
Of course, Jiang Yu was worried. After spending so much time together, what started as a mission to protect her had turned into a genuine bond—he now saw Su Tao as a friend, even as a sister. How could he not care about her safety?
“Before I leave, I’ll find someone to take over my duty of protecting you.”
Su Tao waved him off, “No need to worry about that. Just take care of yourself. If you need anything, just call me.”
Jiang Yu couldn’t quite describe his feelings—he only felt that he owed her more and more.
The queue to enter Xindu was incredibly long. Even though they had arrived relatively early, at this pace, they wouldn’t get in until after sunset.
The Dongyang convoy was still behind them and wouldn’t arrive until the next morning. Given the growing number of people, tomorrow’s queue would likely be twice as long—what a nightmare.
Many in the queue were growing restless, leading to occasional arguments and even fights.
Su Tao thought she’d have to take a nap just to get through this painfully long wait.
Unexpectedly, several uniformed personnel came rushing over, respectfully asking which one of them was Minister Xu Chang.
Lei Xing, who was standing by the RV and already losing patience, clicked his tongue and called out loudly, “Over here! You’re here to take him through the fast lane, right?”
The uniformed staff quickly nodded. “Yes, yes! Is Minister Xu here? We’re here to escort him—his car is right behind us.”
Xu Chang was reluctant to leave the RV, but since they had come to pick him up, he couldn’t just refuse.
To thank Su Tao for inviting him along, he specifically told the staff, “These people are with me. Arrange for them to enter through the fast lane as well.”
The staff immediately agreed.
A high-ranking official from Changjing wanted to bring people in? Of course, they had to give him face.
And so, Su Tao and her group benefited from Minister Xu’s privilege and bypassed the long queue, entering through a side gate.
The people still waiting in line were green with envy.
“Which base are they from? They just got escorted through the fast lane?”
“They must be from Changjing.”
“Are you sure? Did that many people come from Changjing this year? I see several vehicles.”
In the queue, a black SUV with a low-key appearance had its window rolled down, revealing the face of a striking woman.
Her features weren’t exceptionally stunning, but when put together, they exuded a bright, confident charm.
“Who are the people that just went through the fast lane?” she asked her assistant in the passenger seat.
The assistant replied, “Miss Ming, they might be from Leopard Path. Changjing hired them this year to escort Minister Xu.”
Chu Ming frowned. “I don’t need you to tell me that. I recognize Lei Xing’s broken-down vehicles. I’m asking about the ones at the back—especially that RV.”
Her assistant had no idea.
Seeing she wouldn’t get an answer from her, Chu Ming simply called Lei Xing.
Lei Xing was chatting with Minister Xu in the car.
Xu Chang heard the phone ring and gestured for him to take the call.
Lei Xing picked up, not bothering to conceal anything, and spoke in a less-than-friendly tone:
“What do you want now, Miss Eldest?”
“Can’t I call you for no reason? I’m asking about the people in the vehicles behind you.”
Chu Ming was the eldest daughter of the Chu family—a family highly respected in the mercenary world.
Before the apocalypse, her family ran a Taekwondo training business, and her father was a retired military officer.
Raised in a household that valued strength, Chu Ming could already pin down boys her age as a child. By her teens, she was competing in national tournaments and winning numerous awards.
When the apocalypse hit, her parents and older brother made a name for themselves early on, gathering a group of fighters along the coast.
Wealthy survivors looking for protection would reach out to them, hiring their men to ensure their safety.
The first wave of professional mercenaries emerged from the Chu family.
Over twenty years, the Chu family’s reputation only grew stronger.
Many who made a living as mercenaries owed their survival to the Chu family, leading to an influx of people seeking to join them. At their peak, the Chu family was practically unstoppable.
Chu Ming, always a troublemaker, decided at twenty-five or twenty-six to branch out on her own, determined to create the world’s top mercenary team—one that never failed a mission.
Thanks to her family’s backing, she advanced faster than others. In just three years, she had gathered over a hundred ability users under her command.
Unlike other teams, the ability users in her squad weren’t weaklings—most third-tier bases didn’t even have as many strong ability users as she did.
Of course, 80% of them had been “gifted” by her family.
Despite being a skilled fighter, she wasn’t great at managing people. After five or six years, she still lacked any truly impressive accomplishments.
She had a long-standing rivalry with Lei Xing.
Proud as she was, she commanded over a hundred men but couldn’t achieve the same level of fame as Lei Xing’s mere fourteen-person team.
The industry laughed at her, and even her own father was criticized for raising a “useless” daughter who was nothing like him.
Frustrated, Chu Ming repeatedly tried to sabotage and suppress Leopard Path in secret.
But Lei Xing didn’t play by the rules. When provoked, he didn’t care about her family background—he’d beat her men to a pulp without hesitation. He never showed the Chu family any respect.
Eventually, he publicly declared war on her, going so far as to block the Chu family’s doorstep, shouting for her to fight him one-on-one. “Using underhanded tricks doesn’t make you a hero!” he taunted.
Chu Ming was livid—she was a woman! Of course, she wasn’t trying to be a “hero.”
Her father later scolded her harshly, forcing her to apologize to Lei Xing.
Lei Xing, naturally, accepted her begrudging apology with zero humility.
After he left, her father spoke to her earnestly:
“He’s talented. Without any ties to our family, he carved out his own path. Instead of fighting him, why not make him part of the Chu family? Then no matter how strong he becomes, no one will dare ridicule you.”
Make Lei Xing part of the Chu family?
A realization dawned on Chu Ming.
Not just part of the Chu family—he should become her man!
