Chapter 62
After dinner, Yu Jinzhe took the lead to the parking lot to get the car, telling Xie Mi to wait at the restaurant entrance.
Although they had come in the program team’s car, according to the rules, they had to go back in the guest’s own car.
But she waited for quite a while, and Yu Jinzhe never showed up.
At nine o’clock, the city center was bustling. In her evening gown, Xie Mi instantly drew the attention of passersby.
“That person is so pretty. Is she a celebrity? Why are there people filming her?”
“She looks kind of familiar…”
“Um… are you Xie Mi?”
People hesitated between recognizing her or not, their phones itching to take pictures.
Realizing she couldn’t hide it, Xie Mi simply stopped trying. Lifting her dress gracefully, she spun around 360 degrees and gave a little bow.
“Correct, you’ve found me—I am Xie Mi.”
The pedestrians stared for a couple seconds, then quietly dispersed.
“Let’s go, she’s not Xie Mi.”
“Probably someone doing cosplay makeup of her. I thought it was the real one.”
“Not even close! The real Xie Mi isn’t that elegant. I saw through it right away. Boring, boring.”
Xie Mi: “?”
Xie Mi: Excuse me???
[‘Let’s go, she’s not Xie Mi.’]
[Hahahahahahaha I’m dying, Xie, your self-image is way too optimistic.]
[When those people watch the show later: HOLY SH*T!!!]
[Ugh, I’m so jealous. I want to bump into Sister Xie too QAQ]
It seemed even the PD behind the camera realized it had been too long. Unable to hold back, he secretly sent Yu Jinzhe a message.
When he got a reply, he finally breathed in relief, “Teacher Yu said there was a little accident just now, but he’s on his way.”
Xie Mi raised an eyebrow.
Probably not a little accident—more like he was deliberately trying to intimidate her.
Since he hadn’t managed to scare her in the restaurant, naturally he wouldn’t let it go.
Whoosh—
As she thought this, a silver car suddenly sped past her, and she clearly saw Yu Jinzhe’s profile through the window.
“Eh? Teacher Yu! Yu—” The PD stretched out his hand dramatically, only to eat a mouthful of exhaust fumes.
He laughed awkwardly, turning back. “Uh… maybe Teacher Yu… forgot.”
[????????]
[Yeah I believe him, he clearly has zero dating experience.]
[Definitely nervous, it’s his first time on a dating show.]
[Pure innocent little puppy boy ahhhh]
[? You guys are really too forgiving with men]
“Don’t panic.”
Compared to the flustered staff, Xie Mi remained calm.
“Will the program reimburse taxi fare?”
“Uh… yes.”
“Then all good.”
She turned and hailed a taxi, instantly dropping her calm demeanor as she rushed in.
“Driver, quick! Chase that car ahead! That’s my cheating brother-in-law—he’s on the way to meet a male model in the suburbs. I need to catch him red-handed!”
The cameraman who just got in: “???”
The driver, upon hearing this, turned off his late-night radio immediately, sitting upright, “Disgraceful! A shame to all men! This one’s mine, let’s go!!”
With one stomp on the pedal, the taxi shot forward, nearly tossing the cameraman’s gear out the window.
Glancing into the rearview mirror, the driver praised her, “Smart girl, bringing someone to record evidence. You’ll definitely go far.”
Xie Mi beamed. “You’re too kind!”
[WTF hahahahaha]
[A plotline I never thought I’d see.]
[Cheating AND coming out—Sister Xie really has been reading a lot.]
[Driver just unlocked his youth again—nearly became a racecar driver.]
[Fun fact: Never underestimate taxi drivers’ skills.]
The yellow cab weaved through traffic like butter, overtaking every car smoothly.
In less than ten minutes, it boxed in the silver sedan on the roadside.
Yu Jinzhe: “??”
The taxi driver hopped out, sleeves rolled up, cursing as he stormed toward Yu Jinzhe’s car.
Only when Xie Mi and the cameraman rushed forward to stop him did the man reluctantly drive off.
What the hell just happened?
Before he figured it out, the passenger door was yanked open.
Xie Mi leaned in, hand on the doorframe, smiling sweetly, “Heard you forgot me?”
“Sorry, sister.”
Yu Jinzhe’s eyes filled with guilt, “I forgot we were still filming. I left you behind… you won’t be mad at me, right?”
“Of course I will, dumbass. Next time I won’t let it slide.”
She calmly slid into the passenger seat, fastened her belt, and turned to him.
“Well? Not driving?”
“…Driving.”
Yu Jinzhe silently started the car, looking every bit like a scolded obedient student.
But that obedience didn’t last long.
While the livestream chat argued between pitying and blaming him, the car began to pick up speed.
Xie Mi put on an eye mask and leaned back, falling asleep instantly.
Yu Jinzhe frowned at her from the corner of his eye, pressing harder on the accelerator.
Now they were on the highway toward the suburbs. At night, the empty road and heavy pushback of speed created a suffocating atmosphere.
Xie Mi slumped lower and lower in her seat until she was sprawled out.
Yu Jinzhe: “??”
How could she sleep that soundly?!
When scaring her didn’t work, he rolled all the windows down at once. A gust of freezing wind blasted through.
Her eye mask flew up to her forehead.
Xie Mi: “???”
She turned back and saw Yu Jinzhe giving her an innocent look, “Since it’s so late, I thought I should get you home faster. You won’t be mad at me, right?”
Xie Mi smiled. “There’s a service station ahead. Pull over.”
Obediently, he stopped and turned with a smile.
But she leaned over, opened his door, and unbuckled his seatbelt.
Then, while he was still confused, she kicked him out.
“Scram!”
Yu Jinzhe rolled on the asphalt twice before sitting up, dazed. “???”
He was about to lose it.
Why did this woman never play by the rules?!
[Beautifully done!]
[Aw c’mon, was that necessary? He just wanted to drive faster. He’s a sweet college kid, why kick him?]
[Lol shut up. What does opening windows have to do with driving faster? He’s clearly messing with her on purpose.]
[Some of y’all are way too forgiving.]
[Obvious contrast—Mr. Shen is way better.]
By the time Yu Jinzhe got up, dirty all over, Xie Mi was already in the driver’s seat, blinking innocently at him.
“I was just worried you’d get tired driving, so I wanted to help. Sob sob, you won’t be mad at me, right?”
Yu Jinzhe’s lips twitched.
She had mastered the art of being utterly infuriating.
