Chapter 44: Departure, A New Kind of Worker Goes Online!

Su Ning frowned slightly as she saw Ning Wu’s panicked expression upon hearing about the zombie tide.

At that moment, Ning Taotao walked up to Su Ning, grabbed her hand, and said seriously, “Sister, follow me. Let’s escape together.” Looking at this little brother who acted like a miniature adult, Su Ning’s heart warmed, and a faint smile appeared on her lips.

She gently patted Ning Taotao on the shoulder and reassured him, “Taotao, you must protect yourself and Mom and Dad. Your sister can take care of herself.”

Holding a longsword, Ning Wu said solemnly, “It seems we must leave here as soon as possible. A zombie tide means something big has happened.”

Worried about greater danger, Ning Wu prepared to flee with his wife and children.

Zhang Feifei, holding Taotao in her arms, looked at Su Ning with concern. “What’s the plan now? Do you want to relocate to a new base with us?”

Su Ning considered that staying behind might arouse suspicion and unnecessary questions.

After all, in this perilous world, no one dared trust others easily. Though she had grown fond of this family’s atmosphere during their brief interaction, she wouldn’t gamble her life on it.

So, Su Ning decided to join them for now.

At the same time, she was thinking about the right moment to release the [Bulletstorm Zombie] to help her complete her mission smoothly.

She hadn’t forgotten her goal: to obtain the [Farming Space].

Now that a massive zombie tide had appeared outside, it was the perfect time for the Bulletstorm Zombie to help her kill zombies.

“All right, let’s get out of here quickly.”

On their way downstairs, when the family wasn’t paying attention, Su Ning passed by some furniture stores and didn’t miss the chance to scavenge.

While these furnishings might seem like useless junk to others, to Su Ning, they were essential survival supplies.

She was, in effect, stocking up.

When she saw many silk quilts, she thought of the imminent extreme cold in the real world and quickly stuffed them into her backpack.

She also took the chance to release the Bulletstorm Zombie and issued instructions to help her kill zombies.

She equipped it with the Gatling gun it had favored when it was alive.

The zombie holding the Gatling looked bizarre. Its bluish skin gave it a strange aura.

Su Ning also issued a special command: it was not to kill humans or players on its own accord.

Of course, unless someone provoked trouble themselves, Su Ning wouldn’t let the Bulletstorm Zombie attack first.

Once out of the furniture store, Su Ning noticed that Ning Wu’s family was actually following little Taotao’s lead in their escape.

Cradled in Ning Wu’s arms, Taotao pointed and commanded, “Go left. The zombie scent is weaker there. To the right, front, and back, the concentration is the same.” Without hesitation, Ning Wu led his family forward.

Su Ning secretly admired the child. “This kid is incredibly smart—he can determine the location and density of zombies by scent.”

She couldn’t help but recall her own childhood, when she, too, was curious and eager to explore everything around her—though now, survival was the top priority.

Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Su Ning blended into the group, pulling out her bow and occasionally shooting arrows at attacking zombies.

Her movements were swift and precise. One arrow after another, each shot hit its target flawlessly.

At the same time, she kept a sharp eye on the surroundings.

Whenever she was avoiding zombies and not being watched by Ning Wu’s family, she would discreetly release her modified zombies from her backpack—zombies that had been enhanced for combat and could also detect nearby dangers.

Not long after Su Ning and Ning Wu’s family left, terrifying noises erupted behind them. A barrage of gunfire exploded like thunder amid the zombie tide.

“The battle has begun!”

The Bulletstorm Zombie went berserk, its Gatling gun with unlimited bullets roaring into life.

A new kind of worker had gone online!

Just then, a system notification rang in Su Ning’s ears.

Since the system considered the transformed zombies as her own, their kills also counted toward her mission! A faint smile appeared on Su Ning’s lips—things were going quite smoothly.

[Ding! Minion has killed 1 zombie. Total zombie kills: 1,860!]
[Ding! Minion has killed 1 zombie. Total zombie kills: 1,861!]
[Ding! Minion has killed 1 zombie. Total zombie kills: 2,566!]

In under three minutes, the zombie transformed from Li Lian had wiped out thousands of zombies, shocking Su Ning with its efficiency.

She couldn’t help but sigh, “As expected, the Bulletstorm talent really is unbeatable against swarm tactics.”

Meanwhile, hearing the sudden gunfire from behind, Ning Wu and the others became alert.

“There’s gunfire behind us, and it’s so intense. Looks like other players are nearby. But aren’t they afraid the noise will attract the entire zombie tide?”

In the [Corpse Hell] instance, just like in the movies, zombies craved flesh and were extremely sensitive to sound.

Zhang Feifei frowned and added, “With gunfire that dense, I doubt whoever fired it could get out alive.” In her heart, though, she felt secretly relieved. After all, the loud gunfire had drawn away most of the zombies, giving their group a temporary reprieve.

This mindset wasn’t unusual. Most people only cared about their own safety. The life or death of others didn’t matter much.

In short: as long as disaster didn’t strike them personally, they didn’t worry about it.

However, what they didn’t know was that on the battlefield, the Bulletstorm Zombie had already created a mountain of corpses and a sea of blood.

“This is impossible!” Gu Cheng’an exclaimed, lowering his binoculars with a shocked expression. His eyes were full of disbelief. The world seemed turned upside down. Ma Feng, sensing Gu Cheng’an’s unusual reaction, felt a growing sense of dread.

“What’s going on?” he asked anxiously, picking up the binoculars and looking toward the zombie tide and the barrage of gunfire.

As his view expanded, he finally saw the unbelievable sight.

“This… this can’t be real!” Ma Feng was equally stunned, his face turning pale as paper.

He muttered in a trembling voice, “How did he become a zombie? And he can still use his talent!” This defied everything he understood, filling him with confusion and fear.

“A player turned into a zombie and can still use their talent?!”
