Chapter 127: Get Lost!
Time passed in silence until Yu Yingying finally regained consciousness, yet no sound came from inside the tent.
“This… is the C-section really reliable? Why is it taking so long? Haojie, are you sure your wife can handle this?”
Yu Liang, who had just woken up from a nap, rubbed his eyes and looked at Yu Haojie, who was still sitting at the tent entrance. The dark circles under his eyes made it clear that he had not slept at all.
To be honest, Yu Haojie did not want to bother with Yu Liang.
But since Yu Liang had not directly offended him, and Yu Haojie had always maintained a polite demeanor despite his dislike for certain people, he simply nodded.
“My wife’s medical skills are excellent. Do not worry—it should be fine.”
Hearing this, Yu Liang did not seem reassured. He sighed and sat beside Yu Haojie by the fire.
“Sigh, my granddaughter-in-law… Other women give birth without all this trouble. She has already suffered so much, yet when it comes time to deliver the baby, she makes such a fuss. You have worked hard, Haojie.”
The more Yu Liang spoke, the less Yu Haojie wanted to engage with him.
“So it is her fault for suffering through childbirth? Second Uncle, do you even hear yourself?”
Wang Ying, from the third branch of the Yu family and also Huang Xiaoju’s maternal aunt, had stayed by the tent all night without resting.
Even though she was exhausted, she dared not sleep.
She feared that if Huang Xiaoju gave birth to a daughter, Liu Lan might refuse to care for her.
At least with Wang Ying around, she could help her niece.
“Hey, Wang, is that how you talk to your second uncle?”
Wang Ying snorted, then suddenly saw movement at the tent entrance. Her cold expression instantly turned to joy as she rushed forward.
However, just as she was about to step inside, Yu Haojie swiftly stood up, blocking her path so abruptly that she almost fell backward.
“Hey! Second Brother, what are you doing?”
“Sorry, instinctive reaction. My wife said no one is allowed inside until she comes out.”
Yu Haojie’s face remained expressionless, making Wang Ying speechless.
“Come on, there has not been a single sound from inside this whole time. She just had her belly cut open—shouldn’t she be screaming in pain? Why is everything so quiet? I am starting to doubt Ye’s medical skills. Could it be that she messed up and does not dare come out?”
Liu Lan, who had been silent until now, suddenly voiced her doubts, instantly making Yu Haojie’s face darken.
His sharp gaze locked onto Liu Lan, making her subconsciously take half a step back in guilt.
Awkwardly, she forced a laugh.
“I did not mean anything by it. I was just stating the facts.”
“Hah! My wife did not charge you a single coin for this surgery, yet you have the nerve to criticize her? Do not worry—I will make sure to tell her that if you ever get sick or injured, she should leave you to rot. I promise to pass on the message.”
“N-no, wait—”
“What is with all the noise?
We could hear you arguing from inside the tent.
It is done.
Xiaoju is taken care of, and her recovery is now up to her family.”
Just as Liu Lan was about to explain, the tent flap lifted, and Ye Jiamei stepped out, exhaustion evident on her face.
She shot Liu Lan a cold glare before shifting her gaze to Yu Chunmu, whose eyes were already red from worry.
“Chunmu, let me give you a piece of advice. Your wife has just gone through hell and back to give birth to your child. Your parents may have given you life, but Huang Xiaoju is the one bearing your children. Do not let her go through confinement in a miserable state. The conditions may be tough, but do not let her feel abandoned.”
“Yes! Aunt, I understand. I will take good care of Xiaoju.”
“You should. Now, go inside.”
Ye Jiamei stepped aside, allowing Yu Chunmu to rush into the tent.
Surprisingly, instead of following him, Liu Lan grabbed Ye Jiamei’s arm eagerly.
“How is it? Is it a boy or a girl?”
Seeing Liu Lan’s eager expression, Ye Jiamei pulled her hand away in disgust and walked to the fire to drink the hot water Yu Haojie had handed her.
“Ugh! Stop keeping me in suspense! Is it a boy or a girl?”
Liu Lan could not wait any longer and dashed into the tent.
Meanwhile, Yu Liang, unwilling to give up, pressed Ye Jiamei for an answer.
Ye Jiamei shot him an icy glance and sneered.
“Why do you care so much? Does your family deserve a son that badly?”
Yu Liang’s face immediately fell.
His hopeful expression turned into disappointment.
“Father, you are so old-fashioned. What is wrong with having a daughter? Look at our Xiangxiang—she is sweet, obedient, and hardworking. A granddaughter is still family. Do not let Xiaoju see your disappointment—it will only break her heart.”
“Break her heart? Ha! If she cannot even give birth to a son, what right does she have to be upset? The ancestors have passed down the rule that we must continue the family line. Yet, our second branch’s firstborn of this generation is a girl. What an embarrassment!”
“Get lost! Get lost, get lost, GET LOST!”
Ye Jiamei, still vividly recalling the open surgery she had just performed, was disgusted by Yu Liang’s words.
She did not even want to waste another breath on such a stubborn, outdated man.
“Darling, let us just cut ties with these heartless people. Even talking to them feels like a waste of energy.”
Seeing his wife seething with anger, Yu Haojie immediately stepped in to support her, not bothering to spare Yu Liang any courtesy.
“Yes! My husband is absolutely right! At least Chunmu has a conscience. Otherwise, Huang Xiaoju’s life would have been completely ruined!”
Just as Ye Jiamei finished speaking, a sudden wail erupted from inside the tent.
The sound startled everyone, making them instinctively turn toward the entrance.
“What is all the crying for? You should be grateful just to be alive. Looks like Ye really does have skills—she actually managed to cut open a belly and safely deliver the baby!”
Liu Lan’s astonished voice rang out from the tent.
Yet, Yu Chunmu’s sobbing did not stop—his cries were filled with deep sorrow and guilt for his wife’s suffering.
“Aunt, our family still has some eggs and brown sugar. Later, I will bring some to you. It is best if you keep them. Cook them daily for Xiaoju—she will need nourishment to recover. I am afraid if we give them to the second branch, someone else will eat them instead.”
Yu Luo quietly pulled Wang Ying aside and whispered.
Wiping away her tears, Wang Ying nodded repeatedly, full of gratitude.
“Thank you, thank you! Yu Luo, you and your mother’s kindness—Xiaoju and her child will remember it for a lifetime. A lifetime of gratitude.”
