Chapter 69: The Secret Group of Getting Rich
Noticing Lin Huai’s curiosity, Little Bone happily walked along the shelves to introduce his collection. “Look here, Sister Lin. These crimson bones belonged to great philanthropists. Whenever a truly virtuous person passes away, a single bone in their body turns bright red. Aren’t they lovely?”
He pointed to the golden remains resting on the top tier. “These golden ones belonged to eminent monks and enlightened Daoist masters. Bones like these are extraordinarily rare and the most beautiful of all. You mortals call them relics, or immortal bones.”
His voice lowered as he gestured toward the bottom shelves. “And these black ones are undecomposed bones—the remains of wicked people. The darker the shade of black, the more evil deeds they committed in life, making them far more valuable for collectors.”
When a person died, spiritual energy occasionally gathered in certain joints, preventing the bone from ever rotting away. These petrified remains became undecomposed bones.
Hard as black stone, if an undecomposed bone absorbed the essence of the sun and moon over centuries, it could bring calamity upon the mortal realm and rise as a terrifying corpse demon.
Lin Huai frowned slightly. “Chen Feng stole three of those black bones. Did he have a specific use for them?”
The moment Chen Feng’s name came up, Little Bone puffed out his cheeks in irritation. “Undecomposed bones can be forged into dark artifacts. If you use them as core materials to upgrade a coffin, it turns into a demonic vessel capable of refining corpses into power.”
A wave of sudden understanding washed over Lin Huai.
Back in her past life, the terrifying casket she had seen Chen Feng using before her death had clearly been upgraded with these exact undecomposed bones!
No wonder she had always felt that sinister, bone-chilling cold radiating from the wood back then.
She had no intention of using demonic bones to enhance her own casket. With Sister Hanba and the Crematorium outpost on her side, she had a clean, legitimate supply chain for underworld resources and had zero need to refine corpses. Looking across the grotto filled with rare remains, her eyes held not a single trace of greed.
She shook her head with a gentle smile. “Thank you, Little Bone, for showing me your private vault. If you don’t need anything else from me, I should get back on the road.”
Little Bone blinked his milky eyes in confusion. “Sister Lin, isn’t there anything here you like? If you see something you want, I can give you a few pieces! Chen Feng needed undecomposed bones to upgrade his coffin, so you must need them too, right?”
Lin Huai shook her head firmly. “I don’t need things that belonged to evil men. My coffin was hand-carved by my adoptive father. It’s the only relic he left behind for me, and I won’t let the filth of wicked people taint his memory.”
Little Bone nodded slowly, seeming to grasp her meaning. Reaching up to the very highest shelf, he retrieved a slender golden finger bone and held it out to her. “Sister Lin, this is an immortal bone from an enlightened cultivator. It’s one of a kind. Since your coffin holds so much meaning for you, use this divine bone to upgrade it instead.”
Lin Huai felt bad about taking it. “Little Bone, this is the only golden bone in your entire collection. If you give it to me, you won’t have any left.”
Little Bone shook his head, his pale pupils twitching slightly. “Sitting here on a shelf, it’s just a pretty ornament. But in your hands, Sister Lin, it will fulfill a greater purpose. That cultivator won’t have died in vain either.”
He sighed softly. “He clearly achieved enlightenment, yet he still met a tragic end and was dumped into the Mass Grave without anyone to bury him. If you carry his remains away from this pit of filth, the lingering sorrow in his spirit will finally find peace.”
Moved by his words, Lin Huai solemnly reached out to accept the golden bone.
The second her fingertips brushed the surface, a violent surge of overwhelming spiritual energy blasted straight into her body!
The force was laced with fierce, unyielding slaughter intent. A sharp, tearing agony pierced the core of her soul and radiated through her limbs. Unable to endure the brutal impact, her knees buckled, and she crashed to the stone floor in sheer agony. Clenching her teeth against the blinding pain, she forced her arm forward and tossed the golden finger bone straight into the open jade coffin floating beside her.
Seeing Lin Huai clutching her chest on the ground, gasping for breath with a deathly pale face, Little Bone panicked with guilt. “I’m so sorry, Sister Lin! I completely forgot that living mortals can’t touch raw spirit bones directly! I should have dropped it into your coffin myself…”
Lin Huai took several slow, ragged breaths to steady her trembling core. Pushing herself up from the floor, she managed a weak smile. “It’s alright… I’m fine now. It just stung for a second. I’m truly grateful that you were willing to give it to me.”
Little Bone hurried forward, gently tugging her sleeve toward his inner room. “Sister Lin, come lie down and rest for a bit before you try to leave. Your face is completely white! Besides, the Yin energy masking your living pulse has scattered. If you step outside with your mortal scent exposed, you’ll never make it out of the burial mounds alive.”
Her coffin was already packed to the brim with corpses, meaning she couldn’t climb inside to recharge her Yin shroud. Fortunately, Little Bone’s bed was crafted entirely from smooth spirit bones, which radiated a gentle, soothing Yin current. Without hesitating, she lay down across the bone frame to rest.
Like Sister Hanba, the Bone-Picking Child was an underworld keeper who oversaw the dead. Creatures of their tier could see straight through any mortal disguise.
Recalling this, Lin Huai felt a wave of relief. She was glad she had chosen complete honesty and sincerity when dealing with both Sister Hanba and Little Bone.
Had she tried to lie or manipulate them, she likely would have been torn apart or thrown into the pit long ago.
Little Bone’s bed converted Yin energy more slowly than her jade coffin. Lin Huai had to rest on the frame for a full hour before a thick, cold shroud settled over her pulse once more, masking her presence so she could safely travel back through the mounds.
While she rested, Little Bone sat by the bedside, chattering away happily. Lin Huai added him to her friend list on her system screen. Then, after thinking it over, she created a brand-new group chat titled [Sudden Wealth Mysterious Group] and pulled Little Bone, Sister Hanba, and Ah Jiu into the room.
She deliberately left out the Head-Dropping Clan pawnshop owner. Her relationship with him was purely a paid business arrangement built on bribes, making it inappropriate to invite him into her inner circle.
[Bone Ashes Mixed with Rice]: From today on, no matter who or what we are, everyone in this room is a partner on the path to sudden wealth!
[Bone-Picking Child]: Hello everyone! I’m Little Bone from the Mass Grave.
[Red-Haired Princess]: I am the Drought Demon, Red-Haired Princess. You may all call me Big Sister!
[Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird]: I’m Nine-Headed Bird from the repair shop! You can just call me Ah Jiu.
[Bone Ashes Mixed with Rice]: @Red-Haired Princess, Sister Hong, I just picked up a whole coffin full of fresh corpses from Little Bone’s territory! As soon as I reach the highway, I’ll drive straight to your crematorium so we can make a fortune together!
[Red-Haired Princess]: Wonderful! I’ll keep the furnaces ready for you.
[Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird]: You guys already have a whole production line running! Too bad I run a repair garage—I can’t take part in the corpse trade. This is so sad…
[Bone Ashes Mixed with Rice]: @Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird, don’t be sad! Once I’m back on the main road, I’ll boost your store’s sales numbers again! Help me order more autonomous driving systems and mechanical retrieval arms from your central warehouse. Get as many as you can—I’ll buy every single one!
[Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird]: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Fanfan, you’re the absolute best! I’ll put in the requisition orders right away! Hahaha, when monthly performance reviews come around, I’m guaranteed to be the highest-earning shop manager on the server!
[Red-Haired Princess]: @Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird, since she’s boosting your numbers so much, shouldn’t you prepare some premium gifts for Fanfan at the end of the month?
[Ghost Car Nine-Headed Bird]: Hehe, absolutely! Fanfan, is there anything special you’re looking for? Tell me now, and I’ll track it down and deliver it straight to you!
Seeing Sister Hanba naturally use her nickname “Fanfan” in the group, Lin Huai let out a quiet chuckle.
Both Sister Hanba and Little Bone possessed the supernatural sight to read a mortal’s true name instantly, yet in front of other underworld entities, they tactfully concealed her real identity and used her player tag instead.
Knowing her secrets were safe among them put Lin Huai completely at ease.
