Chapter 221: Super Flood 7
The window of the only surviving bedroom on the third floor was shattered by a clap of thunder.
Chu Yian immediately pulled the bedding off the bed and stood the mattress upright against the window.
The mattress wasn’t large enough to completely cover the broken window, so she had to shout down to Lu Qingyuan.
Together, they propped it up with a wardrobe.
Then, they used smaller items to plug the gaps where heavy rain was pouring in.
By the time they had sealed the leaks, the room was already soaked with rainwater.
The mattress and bedding were unusable, and there was standing water on the floor.
However, according to what Lu Qingyuan’s friend said on the phone, they couldn’t leave yet.
The two sat by the bare bed, listening to the thunder, crying, screams, and the sound of electricity from outside.
Lightning struck nearby, and the powerful voltage spread everywhere due to the flood.
On the wet ground, one could occasionally even see currents visibly darting across, and accidentally touching the electrified water would instantly numb the body.
Although the window was blocked with a wardrobe and other items, rainwater still flowed down through the gaps, forming puddles on the floor.
To avoid being electrocuted, they moved from under the bed to on top of it.
It was very dark in the room after the window was blocked, the sound of heavy rain was constant, and the occasional warmth touching him from beside challenged his nerves.
When his outer thigh was touched again, Lu Qingyuan finally lost his patience. “Don’t touch me.”
Chu Yian had originally intended to move further into the bed, but she hadn’t expected Teacher Lu to have such a strong sense of personal space.
She instantly froze, and the room was silent for a few seconds.
Was he too harsh on her?
Lu Qingyuan thought about his tone just now and began to reflect on himself.
Just as he was organizing his thoughts, about to break the silence, Chu Yian’s voice suddenly rang out, “Teacher Lu, do you want to cover yourself with a blanket?”
Listening to her completely unfazed voice, Lu Qingyuan felt that his worry about her being hurt by his words was an act only a fool would commit.
Chu Yian still thought Lu Qingyuan wanted the blanket but was too embarrassed to say so, so she thoughtfully draped half of the blanket over him.
“This is our only dry bedding, so please don’t mind it.”
A man and a woman alone in a room was already too intimate, let alone sharing a blanket.
“It’s a special time, so let’s not have any psychological burdens.”
Lu Qingyuan fell silent.
They spent the night without speaking, sharing a bed but dreaming different dreams.
No, Lu Qingyuan probably didn’t sleep, being the “first time” he was squeezed onto the same bed with a “stranger.” Only Chu Yian slept soundly.
Game Day Three, early morning.
The thunder stopped.
The sound of heavy rain was no longer heard outside.
Chu Yian got out of bed and went to check the shattered window in the living room.
The downpour had turned into a drizzle, and the water level had risen again, now very close to the third floor.
“When did the rain stop?”
She couldn’t help but mumble.
“At 4:21 AM.”
Lu Qingyuan, who hadn’t slept all night, gave the precise answer. “Get ready, we need to leave here.”
Outside, only a light drizzle was falling, making it a good time to leave.
Lu Qingyuan began to inflate the rubber boat, while Chu Yian was currently inventorying the treasure box and the supplies placed outside.
Each of them put three sets of dry clothes into sealed bags.
Weapons were taken out.
They also put on their full-body raincoats and life jackets.
Chu Yian had originally wanted to boil some hot water using the natural gas in the house to take with them, but unfortunately, the gas had been shut off.
No water, no electricity, no gas.
Last night’s lightning destroyed various base stations across the city, and cell phones had no signal.
The terrible environment made those trapped in the flood anxious and fearful.
People in the building were still waiting for rescue, but they were already prepared to flee.
Chu Yian tossed Lu Qingyuan a backpack containing a bottle of mineral water, two high-calorie biscuits, a whistle, and some band-aids.
All other items were placed in the treasure box, and she then put the box away in front of Lu Qingyuan.
Teacher Lu also seemed to have become like an ordinary NPC, tacitly accepting that players using game items was a reasonable setting, and he didn’t ask any questions.
No questions is good.
It saves her from having to explain it to him every round of the game.
Chu Yian looked at the already-formed rubber boat. “Are we ready?”
“No.”
Lu Qingyuan screwed on the inflation valve of the rubber boat, then stood up. “Come get something.”
It was Chu Yian’s first time entering Lu Qingyuan’s room, and it… was utterly ruined by the trash swept in by the rain and strong winds, so much so that even Lu Qingyuan himself paused in shock when he entered.
He stopped for a moment, then walked to the desk and took out a key.
Turning around, he removed several wet books from the bookshelf, revealing a keyhole behind them.
With a click, a small secret compartment was revealed inside.
The compartment contained three pistols, a rifle, and dozens of rounds of ammunition.
This time, it was Chu Yian’s turn to be stunned.
She had always thought Teacher Lu was a law-abiding citizen, but she never expected him to secretly possess so many weapons.
“I bought them for collection when I had nothing to do.”
Lu Qingyuan said nonchalantly, loading the bullets more skillfully than she did.
“Right, for collection.” Chu Yian nodded, looking eagerly at him as he organized the weapons in his hands.
“Do you know how to use them?”
Lu Qingyuan’s voice came from beside her, and in that instant, Chu Yian felt that Teacher Lu was a male Bodhisattva who could perceive people’s thoughts.
“Yes.”
Hearing her affirmative answer, Lu Qingyuan handed her the first gun. “Be careful not to point the muzzle at yourself, don’t accidentally fire…”
“Thank you, Teacher Lu.”
Chu Yian held the hot weapon in her hand, utterly delighted.
“…And don’t point the muzzle at me either.”
Lu Qingyuan looked at the dark muzzle and added another instruction.
Everything was ready; they could depart!
Wearing life jackets and raincoats, they dragged the rubber boat to the second floor.
At this point, the water on the second floor already exceeded Chu Yian’s waist, and the murky surface obscured visibility, causing them to constantly stumble over submerged objects along the way.
They moved slowly, then reached the window.
Lu Qingyuan, being a good swimmer, climbed over first.
Chu Yian cooperated with him to push the kayak out of the window.
The surrounding buildings were not empty of people; with no water, electricity, or gas, people began to salvage food and money floating in the water.
When they saw Chu Yian’s kayak, the eyes of those around them lit up.
“Hey, buddy, where did you get such a good thing? Are you selling it? I’ll buy it for ten thousand yuan.”
“Big brother, girl, where are you going? Looking for food? Can you give this brother a ride? I’ll pay for the fare!”
“Holy cow, with this thing, you can paddle directly to the rescue point, right?”
“Are you going to the rescue point? Can you take my son? He has a cold and fever and needs a doctor.”
…Because of the appearance of this rubber boat, all eyes from the surrounding buildings focused on them.
However, they didn’t take anyone on board.
The two quickly climbed into the boat and swiftly paddled away from the street.
