Chapter 224: Darling, You’re So Bad
The giant python tried to swallow one of the corpses, but Nan Xun stopped it at once. She also had Da Hui breathe a jet of fire, burning all the bodies to ashes.
A Mang repaired the suspension bridge, then leaned in, wanting to get intimate with Nan Xun—only to have her smack his head aside with one palm.
“A Xi…” A Mang looked unusually aggrieved. He’d just finished a fierce battle and wanted to get close to his woman, yet his little wild-leopard of a woman swatted him away with one claw.
Nan Xun was unmoved and began adding firewood. A Mang hurried over to help.
They boiled a large pot of water. Once it cooled a bit, Nan Xun quickly wiped A Mang down from head to toe with the hot water, then wiped Da Hei’s snake body as well. The big bird hadn’t had much contact with those people and stayed airborne the whole time, so Nan Xun left it alone.
“A Mang, take off all the furs you’re wearing.”
Hearing that, A Mang got incredibly excited. Was A Xi coming on to him?
When A Mang stripped completely and stood boldly in front of Nan Xun, she merely glanced at him, then tossed his clothes into the hot water to scald them.
A Mang stood in the breeze for a long while, turning into a living nude statue.
Nan Xun looked at him like he was an idiot. “A Mang, why aren’t you changing? Don’t tell me… you like streaking?”
A Mang: ……
He stared at her for a long time, finally realizing he’d overthought things. With some regret, he went back into the stone cave and put on another set of furs.
Nan Xun disinfected both their clothes with boiling water, and had A Mang thoroughly clean up the ashes from the burned bodies.
“A Mang, do you want to go back and take a look? The situation in the tribe seems really serious,” Nan Xun suddenly asked.
A Mang thought for a moment. “A Xi, I’ll do whatever you decide.”
Truthfully, to A Mang, whether to save them or not didn’t matter. Whether it was the twenty or thirty extremists they’d just faced, or the remaining infected clanspeople who still had some kindness in them—every one of them had once wanted to burn his A Xi alive. If A Xi hadn’t been smart enough to escape in time, what he might have found upon returning could have been a charred corpse.
Whenever he thought of that possibility, no matter how much those people had once loved and supported him, he couldn’t forgive them.
Yes—call him cruel, call him cold-blooded—in his heart, they all deserved to die.
Look at his A Xi: so kind. Even though those clanspeople had hurt her deeply, she still wanted to save them without holding grudges.
Little Eight felt the same way as A Mang and couldn’t help admiring Nan Xun anew. “Darling, you’re really so kind—going to save the cannibal tribe after all that. Compared to you, I feel ashamed of myself~”
Nan Xun said, “Huh? Actually, I’m just worried the cannibals will spread the plague pathogens to the forest animals. If the whole forest gets infected, A Mang and I are done for.”
Little Eight: ……
Nan Xun added, “I don’t know how the cannibals handled the people who died. If they didn’t cremate them, I’ll make A Mang burn the bodies by force.”
Little Eight: ……
Nan Xun continued, “I’m so mad. The reason those cannibals found A Mang and me must be because those seven—A Hua and the others—leaked our location. And I even let them drink the fruit wine I’d saved for so long. Ungrateful white-eyed wolves. If I’d known, I would’ve let Da Hei swallow them!”
Little Eight: ……
Walking back to the cannibal tribe would be too slow. In the end, Nan Xun persuaded Da Hui to carry the two of them there.
The huge, eagle-like bird carried Nan Xun and A Mang through the sky. Guided by Nan Xun, they flew straight toward the cannibal tribe, while the lone Da Hei stayed behind to guard the home.
Da Hui panted. “Woman, your man is too heavy. Carrying both of you—I’m about to die of exhaustion.”
Nan Xun replied sweetly, “I’ll make you lots and lots of roasted meat when we get back~~”
Da Hui chirped and immediately sped up.
Da Hui was basically a prehistoric airplane, and soaring through the air on its back felt amazing.
Nan Xun noticed A Mang hadn’t said a word and turned to look at him. One glance made her burst out laughing. A Mang’s whole body was tense, his legs clamped tightly around the bird’s body. He glanced downward, clearly nervous, yet a trace of excitement gleamed in his eyes.
Nan Xun curved her lips and summed it up in her heart with three words: country bumpkin.
Da Hui soon reached the cannibal tribe.
When a valiant, imposing gray eagle-like bird landed in the village, the clanspeople immediately became wary. The men who hadn’t fallen ill raised their spears, aiming them at the bird that might threaten the tribe.
But in the next instant, they froze.
There were two people on the bird’s back!
When Nan Xun and A Mang leaped down from the bird, everyone snapped back to their senses, staring at the pair in terror.
When they learned that the chief had led people to encircle and kill A Mang and the shaman, they’d already expected the two to meet a miserable end. Their feelings were complicated, but they had been powerless to stop it.
No one could have imagined this outcome—both A Mang and A Xi were alive!
If they were alive, then what about those clanspeople who had gone off shouting about killing them?
Nan Xun didn’t bother explaining. She hurried off to inspect the tribe’s situation.
It was even worse than she’d imagined. Of the original hundred-plus people, fewer than fifty were still alive, and more than twenty of those were gravely ill, on the verge of death.
Worse yet, the bodies of the dead had simply been buried in the open ground behind the tribe, and the infected hadn’t been isolated at all.
“A Mang, the dead must be burned. Otherwise, this disease will spread to the forest animals. If that happens, the entire forest is finished,” Nan Xun said seriously.
A Mang asked no questions. He went straight to gathering the clanspeople… to dig up graves.
When the clanspeople heard his demand, their faces were filled with shock and despair.
Dig up graves? A Mang actually wanted to dig up graves with this woman?
How could they do that? Those were their clanspeople!
Seeing them glare at her with resentment, Nan Xun spread her hands expressionlessly. “If you don’t dig them up and burn the bodies, you’ll die with them. Death, or grave-digging—choose for yourselves.”
Little Eight chimed in with a teasing sigh. “Darling, you’re so bad.”
The clanspeople were skeptical. One brave soul asked, “If we burn their bodies, we can survive? What about the ones who are already sick?”
Nan Xun replied calmly, without batting an eye, “Of course you can survive—so long as you listen to me. As for the sick, they need to be gathered together and isolated from everyone else.”
After struggling internally, the clanspeople followed A Mang with pained expressions, dug up the graves, and piled all the bodies together.
Before they could stack firewood and light it, Da Hui breathed fire in a single blast, startling everyone.
A bird that breathed fire? They had never seen anything like it!
The clanspeople who had died of illness were burned to ashes. Those still alive but sick were all placed together and temporarily isolated from the others.
The isolated clanspeople glared at Nan Xun with resentment. They believed that because of A Xi’s words, they had been abandoned by their own people—this was her revenge for when they’d tried to burn her alive.
Little Eight was angry. “Ignorant prehistoric humans. You help them, and they blame you for it! Darling, don’t be mad.”
Nan Xun replied indifferently, “Why would I be mad? Who do they think they are?”
Little Eight: ……
