Chapter 122: Side Story 6 — I heard that getting married can add credits
In the second semester of their sophomore year, everyone resumed their academic life.
During her freshman year, Lin Yuejiu had been persuaded by her teacher to join the violin club. Freshman year had been busy for her, so the club hadn’t asked her to do much. Sophomore year was comparatively lighter, so the teacher made Lin Yuejiu the vice-captain of the violin club and put her in charge of recruiting new members. With her involvement, the club was sure to attract many people.
On the day of the recruitment, Lin Yuejiu was positioned as the face of the club under the booth, with a crowd gathered around her.
There were so many people asking about her personally that Lin Yuejiu couldn’t help but take the small megaphone the teacher had prepared and say, “Sorry, our violin club only recruits people with violin experience. Also, I already have a boyfriend, Xu Nianshen from the Math Department—it’s known throughout the campus, so please don’t ask me about him. I won’t answer. If you’re interested and have violin experience, you can scan the QR code to join the club.”
As soon as she said this, many people left, though a few remained.
A freshman asked, “Senior, if I scan the QR code and pass the interview, can I receive personal guidance from you?”
“I’m the vice-captain, so of course I’ll guide you.”
“Great! Then I’ll scan the QR code.”
“Here.” Lin Yuejiu handed over the sign with the QR code.
In fact, Lin Yuejiu was already well-known on campus. Firstly, she was beautiful; photos of her had been taken and circulated in the campus forums on her very first day. Secondly, she was talented, being an advanced member of the music association and performing at the freshman welcome party at the principal’s request. And most importantly, she had a boyfriend—Xu Nianshen—who was also photographed on his first day. Together, they were the campus’s high-profile couple.
By the end of the day, the club’s chat group had many new members, and internal meetings began.
After the meeting, Lin Yuejiu immediately ran outside to find Xu Nianshen. He frowned and quickly caught her. “Why are you running? No need to rush, I’m not going anywhere.”
“I was worried you’d be anxious,” she said, slightly out of breath.
Xu Nianshen smoothed her hair. “It’s okay. Boys should wait for girls.”
“Let’s go eat,” she suggested.
“Sure. What do you want to eat?”
“I heard there’s a new dish on the second floor of the cafeteria. I want to try it.”
“Alright.”
Hand in hand, they went to the cafeteria’s second floor, attracting many onlookers, some even taking photos.
They were used to it and ignored the attention.
When it was their turn to buy the new dish, Lin Yuejiu was quite happy. She took a beautiful photo before eating, showing Xu Nianshen’s hand in the frame.
Just as she was about to start eating, someone called her. She turned, puzzled, and saw a freshman asking, “Senior, is this your boyfriend?”
“Yes, he is.”
“Wow, your boyfriend is so handsome!”
Lin Yuejiu smiled politely.
“Can we take a photo together?”
She pointed to their meal. “We’re eating right now.”
Her refusal was clear.
“Oh, sorry about that,” the group sheepishly backed away. Soon, a few more people came to ask questions. At first, Lin Yuejiu handled it well, but she grew a bit exhausted. Xu Nianshen couldn’t stand it. He immediately guided her back to focus on eating and said to the others, “Sorry, we’re eating right now. If you have questions, please ask when we’re free later.”
His tone was a little harsh, and his expression cold. The freshmen were intimidated and quickly left.
Seeing his face darken a little, Lin Yuejiu leaned in and kissed him lightly. “Boyfriend is so good.”
Xu Nianshen’s expression softened a bit. “From now on, just refuse them directly. It’s frustrating when they have no sense—they disturb us while we’re eating.”
Lin Yuejiu said nothing in response.
After that, Lin Yuejiu became visibly busier. With club meetings, auditions, and other responsibilities, there were times Xu Nianshen wanted to see her but couldn’t; she was always occupied. Feeling guilty for making him wait so long, Lin Yuejiu decided she wouldn’t let him wait at all—she would skip meeting him during her busiest times and make up for it when she was free.
Her intentions were good, but reality didn’t cooperate.
She thought that after completing the auditions, she’d have more free time to spend with Xu Nianshen. Instead, she became even busier. There were many responsibilities in the association; numerous new and advanced members joined, and Huang Weixue had no choice but to call Lin Yuejiu to help.
To make up for this, Lin Yuejiu told him he could kiss her as much as he wanted as a sort of compensation. Xu Nianshen, full of resentment, didn’t let this opportunity go; he kissed her until she was nearly breathless before letting her go.
Lin Yuejiu was constantly busy, shuttling between school and the association.
Xu Nianshen would glare at Huang Weixue whenever he saw him.
Huang Weixue said helplessly, “…Glare all you want, it’s not just me who made her come; it was a collective decision.”
The entire semester passed like this, and the two saw each other only a handful of times. When the second semester began, Xu Nianshen thought she might be less busy, but she remained extremely occupied. He didn’t know exactly what kept her busy, and she didn’t either—she just felt there were always things to do: club duties, association responsibilities, or academic work. Just when she thought she could relax, exam preparation or certifications came up, keeping her busy again.
Xu Nianshen complained about this, even suggesting she quit the association to make life easier, since it wouldn’t affect her credits much. Lin Yuejiu considered it and agreed, but decided to finish the current semester first and quit in her junior year. Xu Nianshen had no choice but to accept it.
He could endure all that, but there was one thing he couldn’t tolerate.
Since Lin Yuejiu was constantly on the move, she met many new students and members, and Xu Nianshen could immediately sense that some of them had intentions. He wanted to warn her, but seeing her so exhausted, he held back.
When someone actually tried to take advantage of Lin Yuejiu while she was asleep, Xu Nianshen finally lost it. He kicked the person away, his face dark, his eyes cold and terrifying: “Get lost!”
Lin Yuejiu only found out about this the next day. She didn’t ask him; he didn’t come to see her in the morning either.
In the afternoon, Lin Yuejiu arranged to meet Xu Nianshen. When they met, she spoke directly: “I quit the club.”
Xu Nianshen looked up at her, slightly surprised.
“I didn’t consider your feelings before. I’m really sorry for making you feel unsafe.”
Xu Nianshen was silent for a moment, then said slowly, “I acted impulsively.”
Lin Yuejiu shook her head. “It’s not your fault. If I were a man, seeing my beloved about to be taken advantage of, I’d react the same way.”
Xu Nianshen licked his dry lips. “I…”
“Why don’t we get married?”
Xu Nianshen’s eyes widened in shock, his voice trembling. “Do you know what you’re saying?”
Lin Yuejiu nodded. “Of course. I thought it through. Besides, I heard that marriage can even earn you credits.”
Looking at her radiant smile, Xu Nianshen’s eyes grew dry. “Yuejiu, marriage is not a game.”
“I know. But I already said it—I won’t marry anyone but you, Xu Nianshen. If I’m going to marry, why not now?”
“Why?” His voice was hoarse.
Her eyes curved in a bright smile. “Because our Teacher Xu doesn’t feel secure.”
In that moment, fireworks seemed to bloom before Xu Nianshen’s eyes, and she was smiling at him within them—more brilliant than any firework.
