Chapter 106: The Straightforward Girl
The girls all looked over at the same time. A boy holding a cup of milk tea was making his way through the crowd toward them, until he finally stopped in front of them.
He was strikingly handsome—dark eyes, thick brows, a tall nose bridge, and long lashes. His figure was tall and lean, giving off an aura of aloofness that warned people not to come too close. But then—
In the next moment, he lifted the milk tea, poked in the straw, and handed it to Lin Yuejiu. She took it with a smile. “How did you know I wanted this?”
The corners of Xu Nianshen’s lips curved upward. “We’re connected.” After saying this, he naturally reached for her hand.
“Oh, right. Let me introduce you—these are my roommates.”
Xu Nianshen glanced at them with no expression. “Hello.”
The three nodded stiffly.
Lin Yuejiu said goodbye to them.
The three of them waved back just as stiffly.
Mao Xin: “His looks are seriously top-tier.”
He Yue: “They really are a match made in heaven.”
Wu Lin: “Her boyfriend is such a double standard.”
The three exchanged glances. “And that’s how it should be. If he treated every girl the same, then he’d just be a walking air-conditioner.”
They all nodded. “Mm, makes sense.”
Just then, students from Music Class 2 came out and saw Lin Yuejiu being pulled away by a boy. They immediately asked the three left behind, “Who was that?”
“Her boyfriend.”
“??? She has a boyfriend? Isn’t she a freshman?”
“Yeah. Surprised? But they’re already super happy together.”
Xu Nianshen walked hand in hand with Lin Yuejiu across campus. She sipped the milk tea he had bought and asked curiously, “How did you know I was in Building A? I don’t remember telling you.”
“I guessed.”
“??? And you guessed right? You’re really that good?”
“Your boyfriend’s got plenty of skills—you just don’t know them all yet.”
Of course, he hadn’t been that accurate. He had simply looked at the campus map and knew where the music department’s classrooms usually were.
“So, where are we going next?”
“To look around campus. Didn’t you say earlier you were really curious?”
“Oh.” Lin Yuejiu felt like something had filled her heart completely—it was security. A casual comment from her had been remembered by him. This was what it felt like to be cared for, and it was wonderful.
The two of them, both incredibly good-looking and holding hands, naturally drew a lot of attention as they walked. Some people even snapped photos and uploaded them to the campus forum.
[Today I saw a couple with insanely high visuals walking hand-in-hand. Anyone know who they are? How come I’ve never seen them before?]
Comment 1: [I’m guessing they’re freshmen. With looks like that, there’s no way we’d forget if we’d seen them before.]
Comment 2: [I know, I know! I’m a freshman too, and I just happen to be in the music department. The girl’s from Music Class 2—Lin Yuejiu. Absolute goddess looks, top grades, and even a senior member of the Music Association!]
Comment 3: [Spilling some tea! The guy’s a math major freshman—Xu Nianshen. Ridiculously handsome, has competed in tons of competitions, won awards left and right. Super cold though, gives off this totally unapproachable vibe.]
Comment 5: [Unapproachable? I don’t see that vibe at all in the picture.]
Comment 8: [That’s because he’s holding his girlfriend’s hand. How could he possibly put on an aloof face in front of her?]
Comment 10: [I know the inside scoop—they’ve been childhood sweethearts, together since high school, and very much in love.]
Comment 15: [Alright, mystery solved. They’re already a couple—case closed.]
Very quickly, the news that freshman Lin Yuejiu from the music department and freshman Xu Nianshen from the math department were dating spread all over the campus forum.
Because of their looks, the moment they arrived at school someone had snapped photos of them and uploaded them online, causing a wave of heated discussion. Some people were even thinking about nominating them for campus prince and princess.
Single senior girls sighed regretfully after reading the news—looks like they’d have to find another target. Single senior boys sighed too—pretty girls never belong to us.
As the resident gossip queen, Chen Qianxi naturally saw the posts. That evening, she even sent screenshots to Lin Yuejiu and called her. “Before, you and Xu Shen were each famous on your own. Now you’re trending together.”
Lin Yuejiu laughed. “That’s fine—this way everyone knows we’re together.”
“You sound like you want everyone to know.”
“Of course. Otherwise I don’t feel secure. With his looks, how could I rest easy?”
“Haha, true. I wouldn’t rest easy either. But Xu Shen’s gentleness is reserved just for you. I think you can relax.” Chen Qianxi sighed. “Honestly, watching you live out such a sweet romance makes me want to fall in love too.”
“Really?” Lin Yuejiu raised her brows. “You can, you know. There are plenty of handsome guys at our school—take your pick.”
“The problem is, would any of them even like me back?”
“Xixi, you’ve got to have confidence in yourself.”
Chen Qianxi looked at herself in the mirror, studied her reflection, then said, “I’m such a contradiction. If a guy’s handsome, I’m afraid he won’t like me. If he’s not, then I don’t like him.”
Lin Yuejiu was speechless. “Take it slow. There are plenty of people out there. Just be careful—don’t go picking up some random ‘dish’ that doesn’t belong in your bowl, alright?”
Chen Qianxi threw her head back with a dramatic sigh. “Why don’t I have a childhood sweetheart? Why hasn’t there been someone who grew up with me and still likes me?”
“Didn’t you say you had lots of childhood playmates?”
“Those were just troublemakers. And besides, every single one of them already has a partner.”
“See? Even your childhood friends are all taken, but you’re still single.”
Chen Qianxi pouted. “It’s not like I want to be single. Back in high school, my mom didn’t let me date. Now that I’m in college, she keeps telling me to hurry up and get a boyfriend while I’m still young, otherwise no one will want me when I’m old.”
Lin Yuejiu couldn’t hold back a laugh, then quickly composed herself. Something occurred to her, and she said, “Even if you don’t have a childhood sweetheart, you still have classmates.”
“???? What do you mean?”
“Du Zhuo. Weren’t you two desk-mates? And Nianshen told me you were still deskmates all through senior year. You must’ve gotten pretty close.”
“Him? Forget it.”
“Why? You haven’t even given him a proper chance.”
“I sat next to him for nearly two years—I know exactly what kind of person he is, alright? He’s a block of steel. All he cares about is studying and video games. Completely clueless about anything else.”
The way she said it was dripping with disdain, and Lin Yuejiu couldn’t help but tease her: “So you’re calling him a block of steel? Aren’t you a block of steel yourself?”
“Jiujiu, how can you say that about me? How am I a block of steel? I’ve got plenty of experience, okay?”
“You still say you’re not? Remember that one boy who was clearly interested in you? He worked so hard to get your WeChat, and what did you do? You killed the conversation in one sentence, left him no room to continue. You didn’t even realize it!”
