Chapter 105: A Socially Anxious Rookie
The girl behind him stayed silent. Xu Nianshen knew she was shocked by his words, and a hint of helplessness flickered in his eyes. After spending so much time with her, he found himself saying things he never would have imagined.
Lin Yuejiu, as if reading his mind, immediately said:
“Teacher Xu, you can’t blame me. Don’t start with that ‘near vermilion one turns red, near ink one turns black’ stuff. You’re the one who’s changed—it’s got nothing to do with me.”
Xu Nianshen finished making her bed and looked at her with a calm smile.
“I didn’t say a word, and yet you already know what I’m thinking?”
“Of course! The more I get to know you, the easier it is. Almost with just one look, I can tell exactly what’s on your mind.”
“Really? Then look into my eyes and guess—what am I thinking now?”
Hearing this, Lin Yuejiu lifted her gaze to meet his. His dark pupils carried a glimmer of laughter, reflecting her own figure.
“What am I thinking?” Xu Nianshen asked.
Lin Yuejiu blinked and grinned.
“You’re thinking about me~”
Xu Nianshen chuckled. “You really do know how to talk.”
“But I’m not wrong. You are thinking about me.” Lin Yuejiu said confidently.
“Mhm, I’m thinking about you.” He replied as he tidied up the rest of her things.
“Alright, everything’s in place. Check if there’s anything missing.”
Lin Yuejiu looked around. “Nope, everything’s fine.”
“Good. In that case, I’ll head out.”
“There’s still one thing missing.”
“What is it?” Xu Nianshen turned to her in confusion.
Lin Yuejiu raised a finger and tapped her cheek.
The corners of Xu Nianshen’s lips curled.
“I get it.”
He stepped closer, hooked an arm around her neck, and pressed a kiss against her lips. After parting, he kissed her once more lightly.
“I’m going now.”
“Bye-bye~” Lin Yuejiu waved sweetly.
A little while later, a girl cautiously entered the dorm room. Spotting Lin Yuejiu inside, she asked carefully:
“Um… are you living here too?”
“Yes.”
“Was that just now… your boyfriend?”
“Yeah, why?”
“No reason… I just thought… he’s really handsome.”
Lin Yuejiu smiled.
“You’re also in this dorm?”
“Yes, I was the first to arrive. Let me introduce myself—my name’s Wu Lin.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m Lin Yuejiu.”
They exchanged greetings. Out of curiosity, Wu Lin asked:
“So how long have you and your boyfriend been together?”
“About a year and a half.”
“That long? So you started dating in high school? And then both got into this university together?”
“Yeah.”
Wu Lin’s face showed surprise and admiration.
“That’s amazing. These days, it’s rare for relationships to last all the way from high school to college.”
Lin Yuejiu just smiled.
Not long after, more students arrived one after another. Soon, all four roommates had gathered. They introduced themselves in turn—one was Mao Xin, and the other He Yue.
The moment Mao Xin and He Yue entered, their eyes immediately landed on Lin Yuejiu, and both thought to themselves:
Wow, our dorm actually has such a stunning beauty?
When it was their turn to introduce themselves, both of them appeared shy and reserved.
On the first day of school, there were no classes. The counselor sent a message in the class group chat, asking everyone to gather in Room A307 for a meeting and self-introductions.
The other three girls panicked the moment they saw the words self-introduction.
“You’ve got to be kidding me… we can’t escape self-introductions?”
“I’ve got social anxiety! Doing a self-intro is like a death sentence for me.”
“My heart’s already racing.”
As the three of them muttered nervously, they noticed Lin Yuejiu completely unaffected. Wu Lin asked,
“Yuejiu, aren’t you nervous? Aren’t you afraid of self-introductions?”
“Not really, I’ve already gotten used to being stared at.”
Once everyone in the dorm was present, they chatted more about each other’s backgrounds. Mao Xin kept feeling that Lin Yuejiu looked familiar. Suddenly, she remembered seeing her perform at an evening gala and spotted her name on an honor roll before.
The three of them came to a realization.
“Right, you’ve gone through so many competitions. Of course you wouldn’t get stage fright. Unlike us—we’ve never competed in anything, all we know how to do is study, we’re completely useless. Sigh…”
The three sighed together. Lin Yuejiu found them amusing.
“A self-introduction isn’t something to overthink. The trick is to grow a thick skin. Just imagine the audience as vegetables, or ignore them completely, and you won’t feel so nervous.”
“Easy to say, but when we’re really up there, it’s impossible! We just can’t do it!”
The three continued their wailing, and Lin Yuejiu only smiled and shook her head.
When they arrived at classroom A307, everyone was busy chatting with their dorm mates. The room buzzed with noise until the counselor entered. He went over some important points before saying:
“Cough, cough. Next, let me introduce one of your classmates—Lin Yuejiu.”
Lin Yuejiu stood up. The counselor beckoned her to the front, and she obediently walked up to face the class.
Many had already noticed her earlier—her looks were simply too striking.
“Lin Yuejiu has studied the violin for twelve years. In her second year of high school, she was selected to join the Music Association, where she is now a senior member. In her third year, she even went to the UK for a one-year exchange program, participating in numerous competitions and performances. She has much more experience than most of you, so I hope you’ll all learn from her.”
The class immediately broke into chatter.
“Damn, that impressive? She’s actually a senior member of the Music Association?”
“Just getting into the Music Association is already hard enough, and she’s a senior? That’s insane.”
“And she even did a one-year exchange program in her final year of high school? And still managed to get into this university? She’s got it all—looks, grades, talent.”
“Don’t even say it. She’s the definition of ‘the perfect child from someone else’s family.’ All we can do is admire.”
The counselor quieted everyone down and motioned for her to introduce herself. Lin Yuejiu nodded and bowed politely.
“Hello everyone, my name is Lin Yuejiu. I’m really not that amazing—there’s still so much I need to learn. I’m honored to join Music Class 2, and I hope you’ll take good care of me.”
The class applauded.
“Alright,” said the counselor, “let’s begin the self-introductions.”
Everyone groaned miserably again, still not over their shock from earlier.
As Lin Yuejiu sat back down, her three roommates looked at her with envy.
“So jealous—you can give such a confident introduction.”
“You could do it too.”
They waved her off.
“Please, we know ourselves too well. We’re just three socially anxious rookies.”
Lin Yuejiu couldn’t hold back a laugh.
After all the introductions, the counselor gave some reminders and dismissed the class.
As Lin Yuejiu was leaving the room, quite a few boys came over to ask for her WeChat. She shook her head and declined.
“Sorry, I already have a boyfriend.”
Mao Xin and He Yue were both stunned.
“Huh? You already have a boyfriend?”
“Mm-hm.”
“You just started university and already have one? Isn’t that a little too fast?”
Wu Lin shook her head.
“No, no. She’s had a boyfriend since high school. They came to university together. They’ve been dating for a year and a half now. And he’s super handsome! Honestly, the two of them are like they were made for each other.”
“How handsome??” the other two asked at the same time.
Wu Lin was just about to explain when she spotted someone walking toward them in the distance. She raised her chin slightly and said:
