Chapter 103: Xu Shen of Goddess Lin
Not long after, the day for results finally arrived. Lin Yuejiu sat with Xu Nianshen in his room, both of them checking their scores together.
Seeing her slightly trembling, Xu Nianshen chuckled. “Nervous?”
Lin Yuejiu quickly nodded. “A little… what if my score ends up being way lower than yours?”
Xu Nianshen pulled her into his arms. “You need to have more confidence in yourself.”
“It’s time, it’s time, we can check now!” Lin Yuejiu nudged him. “You go first.”
“Alright.”
He entered his information, clicked, and the result popped up: 721.
Lin Yuejiu took a deep breath and gave him a thumbs-up. “As expected of you.”
Xu Nianshen slid the mouse over to her. “Now it’s your turn.”
With slightly shaky hands, she typed in her ID. But when it came time to press “check,” she couldn’t bring herself to click. Suddenly, warmth spread over her hand.
Xu Nianshen had covered her hand with his, helping her press the button.
Lin Yuejiu instinctively squeezed her eyes shut. “W-what is it? How… how much did I get?”
He stayed silent. Her heart sank. Did she fail?
She opened her eyes in a rush and stared at the score—721.
She blinked slowly. “Isn’t that your score?”
Xu Nianshen, looking at her dazed expression, smiled. “No, that’s yours.”
“Mine?” She pointed to herself in disbelief.
He nodded. “Mm, yours.”
“Me?” She kept pointing at herself. “I scored 721? Lin Yuejiu scored 721?”
Then it hit her. She jumped up, bursting with excitement. “I scored 721! I scored 721!”
She suddenly hugged Xu Nianshen so tightly that she accidentally pushed him back into his chair. Quickly pulling away, she gave an embarrassed laugh. “Sorry, I got too excited. I can’t believe I actually scored the exact same as you! I really caught up to you!”
Xu Nianshen straightened up. “Didn’t I tell you? Sooner or later, you’d catch up to me. And here you are.”
“I’m amazing! I actually tied with Xu Shen!” Lin Yuejiu gave herself a thumbs-up.
Xu Nianshen’s lips curved into a smile.
Hand in hand, the two went downstairs where the others were already waiting. As soon as they saw them, they rushed over. “Jiujiu, how was it? What’s your score?”
Lin Yuejiu slowly broke into a grin, ran forward, and hugged Xu Mu. “I got 721! The same as Xu Nianshen!”
Xu Mu’s eyes widened with joy. “Really?! Our Jiujiu is incredible!”
Father Xu and Xu Jin both smiled too, exchanging a look before giving each other a high five.
Daughter-in-law (or sister-in-law)—secured!
“Then the two of you can attend the same university!”
“Yes.” Lin Yuejiu beamed.
It was the happiest thing she could imagine: she could stay by his side.
When their homeroom teacher heard they had scored the same, his joy was beyond words. Even the principal was delighted—two top scorers.
In class, everyone was curious about their results.
Xu Nianshen: [721.]
Lin Yuejiu: [721.]
[What the—?! Exactly the same score? Are you monsters?]
[Seriously, you two are a match made in heaven. Unreal!]
[Respect. Nothing but respect.]
Xu Nianshen and Lin Yuejiu had not only taken first place in their class, but also in the entire school. The runner-up missed them by just one point, which was a shame.
Meanwhile, everyone who had done well started planning a trip to celebrate.
At the Lin household, Lin Rumeng looked at her own score and broke down crying.
- Worse than ever.
There was disappointment in Lin Father and Lin Mother’s eyes, but they still comforted her, saying it was fine, at least she still had a university to attend.
Lin Yimo did not pat her shoulder, only said coldly, “All of this is the result of your own doing.”
Coincidentally, there was a banquet not long after, and the Lin family attended.
Somehow, Lin Yuejiu’s exam results were revealed, and so were Lin Rumeng’s. Inevitably, people compared the two.
“Tsk tsk, looks like the Lin family gave up a pearl for just an ordinary bead.”
“As expected, without comparison there’s no harm.”
“That fake daughter’s grades have always been excellent. Back then, Madam Lin always flaunted her in front of us.”
“Now she’s got nothing to show off.”
“Well, after all, she’s just an ordinary person.”
Lin Rumeng listened quietly, biting her lip, saying nothing.
“Speaking of which, that fake daughter’s results are really impressive. I heard she got the exact same score as the young master of the Xu family.”
“Oh, I’ve got new news. Apparently that fake daughter and the Xu family’s young master are together.”
“Really?”
Lin Yimo’s ears twitched slightly.
“Of course it’s true! After the college entrance exams ended, they hugged each other right away—lots of people saw it!”
“Well, that’s really something. Leaving the Lin family only to hold onto the Xu family tree.”
“You can’t really call it clinging to someone though. That fake daughter is excellent in her own right.”
“How so?”
“My child’s in the Music Association. That fake daughter just came back from abroad—she’s really famous now and has remarkable ability. She’s even a senior member of the Music Association. I once went to listen to her practice piece—it was incredible.”
“Yes, I went too. She’s beautiful, has top scores, and real talent. You can’t say she’s relying on the Xu family at all.”
“And I heard the Xu family adores her. They even neglect their own son for her.”
“It doesn’t matter if she suffered before—now she’s doing well, all by her own effort.”
Lin Yimo lowered his eyes, staring at the wine in his hand, falling silent.
Father Lin and Mother Lin also sat quietly beside him. She felt like she was drifting further and further away from them.
When it came time to fill in the university application forms, Lin Yimo accompanied Lin Rumeng to school. There, he saw Xu Shenshen and Lin Yuejiu walking together, hand in hand, surrounded by a crowd of people. Their faces were lit up with bright smiles, looking extremely happy.
By chance, Lin Yuejiu’s gaze met Lin Yimo’s. She smiled at him.
For a moment, Lin Yimo felt dazed. It had been so long since she last smiled at him like that.
The others noticed too and returned her smile politely and warmly.
As the two groups brushed past each other, Lin Yimo could still hear their voices.
“Xu Shen chose mathematics as his major? Tsk, no surprise there. Mathematics isn’t something just anyone can handle.”
“Could Xu Shen ever be ordinary?”
“Watch your words—what do you mean our Xu Shen? He’s Lin Goddess’s Xu Shen!”
“Oh right, right, Xu Shen belongs to Lin Goddess. My mistake, my mistake—slap my mouth.” Saying so, the boy made a show of slapping his own lips.
Everyone around burst into laughter.
Lin Yimo lowered his lashes. Since fate had decided they would never meet again, then may she always be happy and never sad again.
After filling out the forms, everyone returned to their homes.
Soon, school was about to start. Parents escorted their children to campus, while some students went alone.
The gates of D University were lively, with senior students from every department holding signs to welcome freshmen, some even helping carry luggage.
Lin Yuejiu was the first to arrive at the entrance, pushing her suitcase as she waited for Xu Shenshen to come.
“Junior?”
Lin Yuejiu turned her head. A senior wearing a volunteer uniform stood beside her, smiling. “Junior, which major are you in? Do you need me to help with your suitcase?”
Lin Yuejiu shook her head. “No need, thank you.”
Not long after, another senior came over. “Junior, do you need help? Do you know your dorm? Have you reported to the freshman office yet?”
Before long, several seniors had already surrounded Lin Yuejiu.
