Chapter 322: Who’s the Big Spender?
“Alright then, go rent it! The silver is with you, isn’t it?”
Ye Lu shot Ah Zan an impatient look. Why was he even running back to report? A mere 1,600 taels? Since when did he ever care about such pocket change?
“Master, we still have 1,600 taels, yes. But if you’re going to rent such a big shop, have you thought about what kind of business to run? Master, please don’t forget that nearly all of your shops in the capital are running at a loss. Are you planning to lose money here in the wilderness too?”
“Tsk! Could you not jinx it? The shop hasn’t even opened yet, and you’re already talking about losses? Your mouth is cursed! Can’t you hope for your master to make some money for once?”
Ah Zan looked utterly wronged. He was simply stating facts—his master had no business sense at all. And now, renting a shop was a spur-of-the-moment decision!
“Master, just look around. There are hardly any women in the wilderness, and even with more people coming in, this place is still dominated by martial artists. If you ask me, why not open a brothel? I’ve checked—the shop has a backyard, which means we can expand the space. This business is guaranteed to turn a profit!”
Ye Lu: …
“You think I picked this shop for no reason?”
Hearing Ah Zan’s idea, Ye Lu was momentarily tempted. He knew that if he really opened a brothel in Luo City, it would be a surefire success—after all, there wasn’t one yet!
But the real reason he wanted a shop here was to get closer to Yu Luo!
If he became a brothel owner, wouldn’t that just make things worse? With Yu Luo’s personality, she’d probably despise him even more!
Just picturing Yu Luo’s cold expression, Ye Lu felt his mood sour. He glared at Ah Zan with an ominous look.
“Y-you mean… it’s just for Miss Yu?” Ah Zan stammered.
The moment he finished speaking, Ye Lu’s palm came crashing down on his head!
Ah Zan flinched and was about to beg for mercy—
“You knew that, yet you still suggested such a terrible idea?! Do you want Miss Yu to look down on me even more?!”
“But… that brothel idea did give me another inspiration!”
Noticing the gleam in his master’s eyes, Ah Zan let out a silent sigh of relief and quickly followed up, “Master, have you finally thought of a business that won’t lose money?”
Ye Lu nodded firmly.
“Yes! This business is guaranteed to make money!”
“Master, stop keeping me in suspense! What kind of business?”
“A casino!”
Ye Lu’s face lit up with excitement.
Just as the master and servant were standing in front of their chosen shop, discussing business, a few low-key carriages suddenly pulled up in front of it.
A man dressed in black silk robes stepped out, approached a Luo City patrol guard, and said,
“This shop—our young master wants to buy it outright.”
The guard’s eyes lit up with surprise. He immediately returned the greeting and replied,
“Brother, if you wish to buy this shop, I will call someone over to discuss the details. I don’t know the exact price myself.”
The man in black nodded and casually pulled out a banknote.
“This is 2,000 taels of gold as a deposit. Oh, and our young master wants to buy the entire street, plus ten shops across from it.”
The patrol guard froze.
Ye Lu and Ah Zan: …
“W-wait… you mean all twenty shops?!”
The patrol guard could hardly believe his ears.
He was already excited when someone wanted to buy just one shop—but this mysterious buyer wanted the whole street plus ten more across from it?!
Who the hell was this big spender?! If the City Lord found out, wouldn’t he be too happy to function?
“Yes, twenty shops in total. Is 2,000 taels of gold enough for a deposit?”
“More than enough! Since your master is serious about buying, please come inside and wait. I’ll go fetch the manager immediately!”
This was big news.
The patrol guard thought not only about informing the shopkeeper—he figured he should also call Miss Yu and the City Lord!
Luo City’s gate had been open for days, and many people had inquired about renting shops, but no one had asked to buy.
Yet today, someone showed up and claimed twenty in one go!
Even the patrol guard’s heart was pounding with excitement.
Just as the patrol guard turned to leave, he was suddenly blocked by two figures—
Ye Lu and Ah Zan.
Still thrilled by the deal, the guard looked up—only to meet Ah Zan’s irritated expression.
“Brother, apologies—but the shop you wanted to rent has already been sold. I can’t authorize a rental anymore.”
“What?!” Ah Zan exclaimed. “We saw it first, and we already agreed to rent it! Why did you sell it to someone else?!”
Finding out there was an even bigger spender, Ye Lu’s mood soured instantly. He snapped angrily at the guard.
“On what grounds?! We were here first! We already inquired about renting—how could you sell it to someone else?!”
“Sir, please understand,” the guard explained patiently. “If you still wish to rent, you can negotiate with the new owner once the deal is finalized. I cannot override this decision.”
“Negotiate?! What if the buyer refuses to rent it out?”
At that moment, a cool voice rang out.
“What’s going on here?”
Both the patrol guard and Ye Lu turned toward the voice—
Standing not far away, Yu Luo had just emerged from the City Lord’s mansion and was walking toward them.
“Miss Yu, you came just in time!” Ye Lu said, seizing the chance to complain.
“I wanted to rent that shop, and I had already inquired about the price—but your patrol guard suddenly refused to rent it to me because someone else is buying it!”
Yu Luo had been rushing out after receiving a report—at least 10,000 people had arrived outside the city gates today!
Hearing that staggering number, Yu Luo couldn’t sit still and had to see it for herself.
But before she could reach the gate, she stumbled upon Ye Lu’s dispute with her patrol guard.
