Chapter 89: I’m Going to Make You See the Truth
“Sister, I didn’t mean it like that…”
Lin Yuejiu didn’t want to hear her and turned to Lin grandfather instead. “Grandfather, you just said she kindly invited me to the party herself. I don’t know if you’re truly confused or pretending to be, but does she really look like she’s being kind? Don’t you notice something off about what she just said?”
Lin grandfather instinctively asked, “What’s wrong with it?”
“Her words just now were clearly implying that I ‘stole her position’ and ‘took what belongs to her.’ That’s laughable. I never intended to take anything from her. You are the ones who brought me into the Lin family. As for learning the violin and working hard, I did it to make you proud and to give you joy. Apart from necessary expenses, have I ever asked for anything from you?”
Lin grandfather looked at Lin mother and Lin Yimo.
Lin mother thought carefully, pursed her lips, and said, “She really never asked for anything herself.”
Lin Yimo nodded in agreement.
Indeed, Lin Yuejiu had never demanded anything—never asked for new clothes, luxury items, or outings. Everything was offered proactively by Lin Yimo and Lin mother. Back then, Lin Yuejiu’s only thought was to improve herself to make them happy, to make them proud. She knew she was just a substitute, with no right to make demands.
In contrast, Lin Rumeng had made many requests—new dresses, diamond necklaces, branded bags, new makeup, and so on.
This might seem normal, as she had been away for so long and wanted to get a few things. But compared to Lin Yuejiu, the difference was striking.
Seeing the situation turning unfavorable, Lin Rumeng quickly put on a pitiful act. “Sister, I didn’t mean that by what I said just now… don’t jump to conclusions, I really didn’t mean it…”
She even squeezed out tears, making it look like Lin Yuejiu was bullying her.
Lin Yuejiu just found it amusing and ignored her, turning her attention back to Lin grandfather. “Grandfather, do you remember what happened that day?”
Lin grandfather frowned. “I remember. What about it?”
“At that time, she claimed I wanted to enter the Lin family of my own accord. That wasn’t true. I was pulled in by her.”
“Do you have any evidence that you were pulled in?”
“Very simple—check the surveillance footage.”
Lin Rumeng was taken aback—there was surveillance? How could she not know?
Lin grandfather glared at her. “Why should I listen to you?”
“If you won’t check the footage, then I will. Today, I insist on showing you the truth!” Lin Yuejiu wasn’t backing down—she couldn’t stand Lin Rumeng’s scheming any longer.
Lin grandfather was silent for a moment. The accompanying butler immediately understood his meaning and hurried to retrieve the footage.
Lin Rumeng started to panic. “Sister, what’s done is done. Watching it again is meaningless.”
Lin Yuejiu sneered, “That’s not necessarily true.”
Soon, someone brought up the footage with audio, and the volume was turned up.
On the screen, Lin Yuejiu saw herself walking past the Lin family and was about to leave, when the butler called out: “Miss… Lin…”
Lin Yuejiu turned and politely smiled. “Hello.”
“Miss Lin, what are you doing…?”
“Just taking a walk, passing by, I’ll be leaving soon.” She turned to go, but was called again.
“Sister?”
She paused and turned to look.
Lin Rumeng said, “Sister, why are you here? Did you come because you knew it was grandfather’s birthday yesterday?”
Lin Yuejiu looked momentarily stunned, clearly unaware.
“…I was just passing by.”
“Since you’re here, why not come in together?”
“No need,” she immediately refused. “I have things to do, I’ll go first.”
“Studying? You can study anytime, but grandfather’s birthday is rare. Come in with me.” With that, Lin Rumeng forcefully grabbed her and pulled her inside. Lin Yuejiu struggled, but it was clear she couldn’t resist, and she was dragged in.
Lin Yuejiu’s expression remained indifferent. “Evidence doesn’t lie.”
Lin father and Lin mother looked on in disbelief. So it had been Rumeng who pulled Yuejiu in back then—but why had she told them it was Yuejiu’s own initiative?
Lin grandfather noticed something was wrong and turned to the silent Lin Rumeng. “Rumeng, why did you lie to us back then?”
“I…” Lin Rumeng couldn’t answer.
Lin Yuejiu glanced at her. “What else could it be? Claiming I went in on my own would make you angry, make me leave, giving her immense satisfaction. It also allowed me to see clearly who the real daughter of the Lin family is and who you really favor, warning me not to have any extra ideas.”
Lin Rumeng clenched her hands, having to admit that Yuejiu had hit the nail on the head—those had indeed been her intentions at the time.
She had deliberately pulled Yuejiu in, then slandered her, just to see her embarrassed and to make her realize who the true Lin daughter was. Even after eleven years, she could never surpass a biological child.
“Rumeng, is it really true?” Lin mother still couldn’t believe it.
Lin Rumeng didn’t know what to say.
Lin grandfather looked at her expression and finally knew that what Lin Yuejiu said was true. His face was filled with disappointment.
Lin Yuejiu scanned the room and noticed how everyone’s gaze toward Lin Rumeng had changed. She finally exhaled in relief—previously, it had always been Rumeng frustrating her. Now, the tables had turned.
Xu Yanshen held her hand, and when she turned, he asked, “Shall we go?”
She nodded lightly.
While everyone’s attention remained on Lin Rumeng, the two of them quietly left the Lin residence.
Xu Yanshen intertwined his fingers with hers, holding hands as they walked. He smiled, recalling last night: “Yesterday, that was the first time I saw you like that.”
“The rabbit will bite when it’s cornered. I really can’t stand her antics anymore, always causing trouble,” she said.
“Let it out, it’s fine. Let her remember this lesson,” he replied.
Hand in hand, they wandered without direction. They didn’t know where the road ahead led, nor did they want to. All that mattered was that they had each other—everywhere else was irrelevant.
By the time everyone recovered, Lin Yuejiu had already disappeared. Xu Yan noticed his brother was missing as well. He wanted to go look, but thinking of the relationship between the two, he held back.
Ultimately, the birthday party couldn’t continue—the atmosphere was far too awkward. Lin grandfather found an excuse to dismiss everyone, intending to leave himself, but Lin Yimo stopped him.
Earlier, when Lin Yuejiu spoke those words, Lin Yimo had thought it was the right moment to reveal everything. He had gathered all the evidence and recordings from that day to show them.
Lin Rumeng, realizing her mistake, quietly lowered her head and said nothing.
Lin Yimo soon came down from upstairs, holding the materials he had collected.
Lin grandfather asked, “Why have you gathered us here?”
His gaze was complex as he looked at Lin Rumeng. “There are some things you should know… you need to be mentally prepared.”
