Chapter 137: White Mist
Just when Wan Youzhi thought his victory was absolutely certain, Song Yuqing appeared with a crowd of people.
It was the mutants from Base 3 and Base 1. In a single, decisive move, Song Yuqing had transported everyone from both bases directly to the battlefield.
Earlier, when the God’s Supermarket computer received a flood of distress signals from various bases all at once, she immediately suspected it was a diversion. Wan Youzhi and Lin Han had infiltrated the God’s Community to disrupt its internal order, all while sending a horde of zombies to attack the outer bases. It was a classic pincer movement—creating internal chaos and external pressure to seize control of the Supermarket as quickly as possible.
What Song Yuqing couldn’t wrap her head around was why they were trying to rob it in the first place. Didn’t they know the God’s Supermarket was untouchable? They already knew this world was a virtual program. How could they fail to understand that the Supermarket’s existence was an absolute, unalterable rule hardcoded into the system?
Since Lin Han and Wan Youzhi wanted to feint to the east and attack in the west, Song Yuqing countered with the empty city strategy. Her plan was to abandon the outer defenses and bring everyone from the bases back to the God’s Supermarket. With the war already raging, this was the most she could manage.
“Hiss! What?” Chen Ke hissed, her face contorting with angry confusion. “Weren’t our zombies supposed to be attacking Base 3 and Base 1?”
“Yep, they’re probably scratching their heads over there right now,” Liu Xiaona mocked, perfectly imitating the raspy growls of the undead. “Hiha? Where did all the humans go? How did they disappear in the blink of an eye?”
Furious, Chen Ke spun around to vent her rage on Wan Youzhi. “You’re completely useless! How could you not predict this?!”
Wan Youzhi was filled with an unspeakable, bitter frustration.
Before he could respond, Gaha leaped through the crowd, lunging to snatch the glowing meteorite fragments directly from Chen Ke’s hands. Xiao Roubao and several other psychics quickly backed him up, launching a highly coordinated assault on the half-zombie girl from all directions.
But Chen Ke was no longer the delicate girl she once was. She easily fended off the joint attack, fueled by the endless surge of energy radiating from the meteorite fragments. As she clashed with the psychics, she fiercely guarded the stones while calculating her escape route. A tactical retreat was starting to look like her smartest option.
The tides of the battlefield had shifted. The human psychics now outnumbered the zombies. Thanks to the God’s Supermarket online shopping platform, these fighters had been regularly consuming ability-enhancing vegetables and coffee for quite some time. Their combined strength was nothing to scoff at!
Realizing the situation was spiraling out of control, Wan Youzhi desperately tried to activate his foresight to peek into the future. But Shen She wasn’t about to give him that chance.
Wielding a weapon he had forged with his own hands, Shen She struck. The attack was blindingly fast. Wan Youzhi was killed instantly, dead before he even had the time to react.
His final, fleeting thought before the darkness took him was: Will this doomsday program be saved and restarted like a game?
As Wan Youzhi’s lifeless body slumped against the ruined city wall, Lin Han finally snapped back to reality. He immediately went on the offensive, unleashing a devouring black hole. The swirling void acted as a perfect shield, completely blocking Shen She from finding a viable angle to strike.
In the blink of an eye, the black hole expanded, swelling to the size of half a playground.
“Shen She, hurry!” Song Yuqing shouted.
Shen She just smiled. He genuinely wanted to know who was faster: him or Lin Han. As the master of time, he was brimming with confidence. But to his absolute shock, the black hole was entirely immune to his time manipulation.
Realizing the danger, Song Yuqing closed her eyes and focused, drawing every ounce of strength into her core. She was going to use her own spatial domain to neutralize Lin Han’s.
This was her first time actively trying to awaken the offensive capabilities of her spatial powers. If Lin Han’s space could annihilate matter, hers should be able to evolve a similar function. Up until now, her ability upgrades had relied entirely on Master Fu’s system rewards, leading her to believe her spatial power was nothing more than a glorified storage warehouse.
Come on. You can do this, Song Yuqing, she encouraged herself silently. She could feel the meridians within her body vibrating as a surge of warm energy washed over her from head to toe. She stood perfectly still, letting the chaotic sounds of the battlefield fade into a distant, muffled hum.
Meanwhile, seeing the black hole grow larger by the second, Shen She tried to bypass it and attack Lin Han directly. Yet, no matter how quick he was, he couldn’t break through the coordinated defense of the high-level zombies violently guarding their master.
Lin Han glanced at Wan Youzhi’s corpse slumped by the collapsed wall. He felt no grief. The fact that Wan Youzhi hadn’t foreseen his own death only proved that his predictions were flawed to begin with.
Is there still a chance to win? Lin Han asked himself. He couldn’t even hear his own internal answer over the roar of the battle. But regardless of the odds, he could only push forward. Retreat was not an option.
Pushing himself to his absolute limits, Lin Han channeled all his remaining energy to shroud the God’s Community in the expanding void. Those who recognized the terrifying devouring power of the black hole scrambled away in a blind panic. Those who had never seen it before stood frozen in awe, completely ignoring the zombies lunging at them. Consequently, casualties among the psychics spiked drastically.
Refusing to back down, Liu Xiaona, Gaha, and Xiao Roubao charged straight toward Lin Han. They had to kill him before the black hole reached its complete, destructive form.
Nanjiao’s heart hammered against his ribs. He looked over at Song Yuqing, only to find her still standing motionless with her eyes tightly shut.
“Song Yuqing!” Nanjiao shouted frantically.
After a few agonizing seconds, she finally opened her eyes. Her gaze locked onto Lin Han with unwavering resolve. Slowly, a cloud of pure, glowing white mist began to rise from her palms.
Seeing this, Nanjiao let out a breath and couldn’t help but smile.
The white mist surged from Song Yuqing’s hands, spreading at a terrifying speed. In an instant, it grew massive enough to rival Lin Han’s devouring black hole. Panic flashed in Lin Han’s eyes, but he gritted his teeth and stubbornly pushed more power into his attack.
Noticing the shift in power, Chen Ke screeched a harsh command. “Hiha!”
Hidden within the chaotic crowd, Xie Qiang and his wife—zombies perfectly disguised among the humans—received the order. Their expressions went dead, and they began walking calmly and methodically toward Song Yuqing.
“Break!” Song Yuqing roared. The white mist erupting from her hands doubled in volume, sweeping forward like a tidal wave and completely enveloping Lin Han’s black hole.
With another fierce shout, she clenched her fists. The white mist tightened around the dark void, neutralizing its volatile energy until both the mist and the black hole dissolved harmlessly into thin air.
The backlash hit Lin Han instantly. Standing high on the city wall, he violently coughed up a mouthful of dark blood. Before he could recover, Shen She, Xiao Roubao, Gaha, and Liu Xiaona closed in, striking him one after another in a relentless barrage. Shattered and beaten, Lin Han plummeted from the wall and hit the ground, dead.
The moment his life faded, the spatial dimension tied to his soul collapsed. An absolute mountain of hoarded supplies exploded outward, boxes and crates raining down out of thin air to litter the battlefield.
Down below, Song Yuqing leaned forward, gasping for breath, her face drained of all color.
“Hiss!” Chen Ke let out a sharp cry, signaling the main zombie horde to fall back. She issued a secondary hiss, instructing the disguised zombies hiding among the humans to lay low and act according to the circumstances.
“See you next time!” Chen Ke threw a vicious smile at Song Yuqing. Clutching her meteorite fragments, she turned and led her remaining forces in a swift retreat past the outer walls.
“After them!” Liu Xiaona screamed, charging forward to lead the pursuit.
“Don’t let them get away! Kill the zombies and trade them for supplies!” Zhang Yimiao bellowed, conjuring a massive fireball and hurling it straight into the retreating horde.
“He’s right! The God’s Supermarket pays for zombie corpses and crystal cores! Don’t leave a single one behind!” Liu Xiaona yelled, rallying the troops.
The tables had completely turned. The terrifying undead army that had come to slaughter humanity had just been reduced to walking loot drops. They were the prey now.
Sticking to the golden rule of capturing the enemy leader first, Shen She pushed his time abilities to the absolute limit. He bypassed the grunts entirely, moving at impossible speeds to intercept Chen Ke, who had already fled far ahead. Drawing the specialized anti-zombie weapon he had spent so long perfecting, he swung hard at her.
At the exact same moment, Gaha caught up from the flank. In a brutal display of strength, he tore the meteorite fragments right out of Chen Ke’s grasp, then instantly brought the heavy stones crashing down toward her skull.
Desperate, Chen Ke lunged to reclaim her stolen power source. As long as she had those meteorite fragments, she knew she could slaughter both Shen She and Gaha.
But Shen She flashed a wicked grin. Tapping into the flow of time, he trapped Chen Ke in a localized, agonizing time loop—locking her into the exact fraction of a second right before Gaha’s blow landed.
Chen Ke’s eyes widened in horror, completely unable to comprehend why her body kept violently snapping back to the previous second every time she tried to move.
Then, right in front of the retreating zombie army, Shen She stepped in and cleanly split her head open.
As her body crumpled, Shen She stared down at the gore, tilting his head in genuine curiosity. Would a hybrid—someone half-human and half-zombie like Chen Ke—actually produce a crystal core? And if she did, what kind of core would it be?
