What?! I Became the Zombie Beauty in the Villain’s Arms – CH184-186

Chapter 184: Punishment/God’s Will

Duan Xiaolin lowered his eyes, his expression completely indifferent. He accepted the pair of black leather gloves Shadow handed to him, slipping them on with deliberate precision. He stared down at the man chained before him with the cold, detached gaze of a scientist examining a dying experimental subject.

With his slender fingers, Duan Xiaolin selected a specialized torture instrument from the surgical tray beside him.

The heavy iron chains securing the man were already caked in blood. Much of it had dried into dark, crusty spots.

The instrument in his hands possessed a terrifying aura. The tools used here weren’t merely designed to inflict physical agony; they were meticulously crafted to break the mind, drawing out the deepest, most primal fears hidden within a person’s soul.

Duan Xiaolin looked at him with sheer disdain. “Is there anything else you want to say?” he asked slowly.

“Cough… cough…” Xiao Yue hung his head weakly, his body completely drained of strength.

This man truly lived up to his title as the Chief Judge of Franlun. When it came to interrogation and systematically shattering a person’s psychological defenses, absolutely no one could match him.

“…I don’t know why,” Xiao Yue breathed weakly. He paused for a long time, struggling to find the words. “I don’t know exactly when it started, but… I do encounter an absurd amount of unexpected things. I used to think… they were all just miraculous surprises given to me by God, or pure luck. But when I really stop to think about it… something is fundamentally wrong.”

“I never felt this way before. But ever since I met Pei Yanting, my entire path changed.”

“Judge Duan, do you know how incredibly far a person can go when the universe itself paves the way?”

A bloody, twisted smile spread across his face.

“I am so successful that even I can’t believe it.”

Three supreme supernatural abilities. Each individual power was so devastatingly strong that normal survivors couldn’t even dream of possessing just one. Every single crystal core he ever acquired happened to be the absolute best of the best. The high-tier equipment he stumbled upon was completely unbreakable.

He let out a soft, maniacal chuckle, sounding like a desperate gambler who had just shoved all his chips to the center of the table. “So, you can’t kill me. My existence brings something different to this apocalypse. Even though I don’t know why, God always favors me. It means I am absolutely destined to be the final winner.”

Back in the ruined laboratory of the Ghost Market.

At the most critical moment, Duan Xiaolin hadn’t actually dealt a fatal blow. Instead, he had secretly brought Xiao Yue here.

He had subjected him to extreme, systematic interrogation. All just to drag this exact answer out of him.

Perhaps the dying curse I spat at him was too vicious, Xiao Yue thought. Is that why this man left me alive? To leave himself a way out?

A way out… No. Duan Xiaolin didn’t look like the kind of man who ever left himself a way out.

Xiao Yue genuinely didn’t know what Duan Xiaolin was planning, but he had told him the final answer anyway. Moreover, a powerful instinct told Xiao Yue that if Duan Xiaolin actually killed him, Duan Xiaolin wouldn’t survive the consequences either.

Was it confidence? No, it wasn’t personal confidence; it was an overwhelming sensation forced upon him by the very fabric of this world. It was the most direct, primal feeling.

Regardless, Xiao Yue had already fallen this far.

He truly, desperately hoped that the curses he and Yanting had cast before their deaths would come true.

“Really?” Duan Xiaolin murmured softly. He slowly pressed the tip of the cold instrument against the center of Xiao Yue’s brow.

The casual, deliberate movement sent a spike of pure adrenaline through Xiao Yue, stimulating every muscle, vein, and inch of his skin. The heavy iron collar around his neck suddenly felt tight enough to suffocate him.

The world before his eyes went pitch black. In that moment, Xiao Yue felt as though he were staring directly at the God of Death, who was leisurely watching him make a complete fool of himself.

“I only spared your life temporarily to confirm my own suspicions,” Duan Xiaolin stated coldly. “Now that my doubts have been resolved, you may die.”

“You wouldn’t dare.” Xiao Yue’s scalp prickled with tension. “If you kill me, you will die too.”

“How can you be so sure?”

“It is impossibly difficult to merge three distinct supernatural powers. Why do you think I possess them?”

“Are you suggesting you have some hidden expert behind the scenes giving you guidance?”

“It’s not the guidance of an expert. It’s the Will of Heaven.”

Duan Xiaolin tilted his head, a cold sneer forming on his lips. “The Will of Heaven… You don’t honestly mean to tell me that your absurd luck is a direct mandate from the heavens, do you?”

“I don’t know for sure,” Xiao Yue gasped. “But I am absolutely certain that you cannot kill me. Killing me would be going directly against the Will of Heaven, and if you do, everything in this world will collapse!”

The moment the words left his mouth, Xiao Yue froze.

The desperate instinct for survival had forced the words out, making it feel as though his body was completely out of his control. Those words were absolutely not what he had actually wanted to say. He had tried to stop himself, but it was too late.

Duan Xiaolin clamped a gloved hand around his throat, forcefully tilting his head up.

“Cursing me, attempting to borrow power from an invisible source, begging some so-called ‘fate’ to punish me… it is all utterly useless.”

Duan Xiaolin tightened his grip. The veins on Xiao Yue’s neck bulged painfully.

Xiao Yue opened his mouth, his eyes widening in sheer terror as a voice that didn’t even sound like his own tore from his throat: “Duan Xiaolin! If you kill me, you will suffer catastrophic retribution! Heaven itself will not tolerate it, and you will be punished by the very earth and sky! The future will be thrown into absolute chaos! If you dare to defy what is destined by Heaven, you will die without a burial place!!”

“Then I am very much looking forward to seeing just how far your so-called ‘Will of Heaven’ can reach,” the man replied. He seemed to be smiling, though his tone was dripping with dark, absolute sarcasm. “I have decided to kill you. And absolutely no one can stop me.”

If there are consequences, then let them come.

Xiao Yue’s pupils instantly dilated.

He rapidly lost consciousness as all the remaining strength and life force were forcefully drained from his body. Finally, his head slumped forward in ultimate exhaustion.

Shadow stepped forward. He noticed that Xiao Yue’s eyes remained wide open in death, bulging slightly from their sockets—a rather grotesque sight.

Back in the Ghost Market, Brother Duan had held back, choosing not to kill him on the spot. Surprisingly, he had managed to pry a massive amount of classified lore from the protagonist’s mouth.

Is there truly an invisible hand controlling everything behind the scenes of this world? Shadow wondered. Otherwise, it was completely impossible to explain how Xiao Yue, an ordinary survivor, had managed to awaken three supreme supernatural talents and challenge Brother Duan head-on. If it weren’t for a long string of seemingly coincidental, yet meticulously planned encounters, Xiao Yue probably wouldn’t have even reached the threshold of a major survivor base.

“Brother Duan, what he said right before he died…”

Duan Xiaolin ignored the question. He calmly peeled off his bloodstained gloves. “Dispose of the body secretly.”

“Understood.”

“And do not breathe a word to anyone about what we just pried out of him.”

“Yes, sir.”

Duan Xiaolin turned and walked out of the dark water dungeon.

He pulled a silk cloth from his pocket and calmly wiped a speck of dust from his glasses.

He was not a savior, nor was he a god. He had always lurked in the absolute darkness, constantly surrounded and swallowed by it. Even if a sliver of light managed to shine in, it was always destined to fade away a moment later.

Xiao Yue’s dying curse was incredibly childish.

God’s Will? What exactly is God’s Will? If he crushed the so-called ‘Will of Heaven’ with his own two hands, what could it possibly do to stop him?

The man lowered his head slightly.

Just one step away, past the heavy steel door of the underground facility, lay the lush, sunlit village.

And inside that village, someone was waiting for him.

He placed his glasses back on the bridge of his nose. The suffocating, murderous intent entirely faded from his body as he walked out toward the light.

Pei Xiqing stepped out of the house, holding Xiaobai’s leash, just in time to see the man approaching from a short distance away.

He casually brushed a speck of dust from his broad shoulder. Looking over at her, he asked, “Are you packed?”

Pei Xiqing was carrying a surprisingly large wooden box, making it difficult for her to walk.

The man quickly closed the distance, taking the heavy box from her hands and weighing it effortlessly. “What’s inside?”

“Food.”

“Oh?”

“I wanted to bring gifts for everyone in the village, but I didn’t have many supplies on me, and I definitely didn’t have enough crystal cores to share. So, I just baked some food.”

Duan Xiaolin cracked the lid slightly. “Desserts?”

“Mhm.” She grabbed his arm, pulling him along so he couldn’t inspect the contents too closely. “Let’s go, let’s go! If we wait too long, they’ll get cold and won’t taste as good.”

Duan Xiaolin noticed her frantic little movements and smiled softly. He shifted the box to one arm and effortlessly intertwined his free fingers with hers.

“Let’s go.”

Carrying the large box of desserts, Duan Xiaolin had only walked a short distance down the dirt path with Pei Xiqing when they bumped into a few local villagers.

The villagers spotted Duan Xiaolin first and were just about to rush over to greet him. But when they noticed the stunning, long-haired woman walking closely beside him, their fingers intertwined, they all froze in shock. A moment later, they broke into huge, surprised smiles and enthusiastically greeted her.

“The banquet is set up just ahead! It’s not far! Just keep walking straight!”

“We’ll be right there! We just need to drop this firewood off at home, and we’ll join you in a minute!”

Pei Xiqing nodded politely at them and continued walking hand-in-hand with the man.

The village was nestled in a breathtaking valley, surrounded by lush green mountains and crystal-clear waters. Golden wheat and vibrant vegetables grew in neat rows on both sides of the dirt road. Not far away, a pristine stream babbled happily, winding its way through the backyards of the homes.

About fifty meters ahead, several low-rise, rustic houses were clustered together. The mouth-watering aroma of home-cooked food wafted heavily through the evening air.

From a distance, they could see a large group of people bustling about in the village square. Villagers were cheerfully washing vegetables, tending to large cooking pots, and chopping firewood. They had all gathered together, and the atmosphere was incredibly lively and joyful.

Someone in the square spotted them approaching.

He excitedly waved a wooden spoon in the air. “Oh my goodness! Look! Brother Duan really did bring his woman!”

“Oh my god, Brother Duan told us he had a wife, and he really wasn’t lying to us!”

Chapter 185: Vixen

The villagers were a simple, honest group who rarely interacted with outsiders. Seeing faces other than their own was an incredibly rare event. Consequently, the arrival of Duan Xiaolin and Pei Xiqing sparked a flurry of excitement and curiosity.

People stood on their tiptoes, craning their necks over the crowd to get a better look. When they finally caught sight of the woman standing beside Duan Xiaolin, their eyes widened. After staring in awe for a long moment, someone exclaimed, “Is that Brother Duan’s wife? She’s so beautiful… Standing next to him, they’re a perfect match!”

“I thought Brother Duan was just making up an excuse to avoid trouble, but it’s actually true!”

“Man, if I could marry a woman like that, I’d die with no regrets.”

“Get out of here with that nonsense,” another scolded, before adding, “But I have to admit, Brother Duan’s wife is stunning. She’s definitely prettier than our village beauty!”

“The village beauty? Please. She hasn’t even shown up yet. I bet she’s busy getting all dressed up again, hahahaha!”

“To be fair, her standards are sky-high. She looks down on all of us. She always calls me a toad lusting after swan meat. Well, now the shoe’s on the other foot!”

“Ahem…” someone coughed lightly from behind them.

The gossiping men turned around to see a young woman in dirty clothes, her face smeared with mud.

“Hey! It’s Xiao Ma! Where’s your cousin? Didn’t she come with you?”

“What’s it to you?” Ma Mengxiang glared fiercely at them. “What are you all looking at?! And what kind of garbage were you just spouting? If Brother Duan or my cousin heard you gossiping behind their backs, they’d never let you off!”

“Our bad, our bad! We won’t say another word!” the men quickly apologized, waving their hands.

“Hmph.” Ma Mengxiang slammed her vegetable basket onto a nearby table, sending several carrots tumbling out. She raised a fist and snapped, “If you keep talking nonsense, you’re going to catch a beating!”

“Xiao Ma, come on, we’re just having a little fun. Besides, everything we said was the truth! If you don’t believe us, go take a look at Brother Duan’s wife yourself. Isn’t she a total beauty?”

Following their gaze, Ma Mengxiang immediately spotted the woman standing beside Duan Xiaolin, chatting amiably with several villagers.

She couldn’t hear what they were saying, but whatever it was had several of the older uncles and aunts laughing warmly. Then, the woman gestured to the man beside her to start handing out items from the wooden box he was carrying.

The woman was breathtakingly beautiful—like a vixen spirit that had stepped right out of an ancient painting.

That was Ma Mengxiang’s very first impression of Pei Xiqing. She couldn’t think of any other way to describe her.

Ma Mengxiang had lived in this tiny village since she was a child. She had never stepped foot outside, let alone met any outsiders. Her only glimpse into the outside world came from the scavengers who occasionally brought back old books, paintings, and scratched discs that told stories of the past.

Many of those old stories featured enchanting fox spirits—vixens who emerged from books to seduce men and steal their life essence. Seeing Pei Xiqing in the flesh, those mythical vixens suddenly felt incredibly real.

Ma Mengxiang picked up her basket and walked toward the crowd. As she caught sight of Brother Duan’s back, a flutter of excitement rose in her chest.

Brother Duan was the hero who had saved their village. Although he had only been here for a few days, many of the local girls secretly admired him.

A while back, a few mischievous village kids had snuck out to look for their fathers. Instead of finding them, they were chased back by a group of rabid zombies. The terrified kids had wet their pants, crying hysterically. Several strong men from the village rushed out to help, but they were no match for the undead; some were even bitten.

If Brother Duan hadn’t happened to pass by at that exact moment and effortlessly crushed the zombies to death, their entire village would have been wiped out. He had even managed to save the man who had been bitten.

“Uncle, this is a pastry I made myself. Would you like to try it?” Pei Xiqing asked, taking a piece of cake from the box and offering it to a middle-aged man.

“What a unique shape! What is this?” the man asked in awe. “I’ve never seen a pastry like this before.”

The treat looked incredibly delicate, softer even than traditional flower cakes. Although the stamped patterns on top were a bit rustic, it was obvious that a lot of effort had gone into making them.

Pei Xiqing smiled and explained, “This is a pastry meant to clear internal heat and flush out toxins. I call it Jasmine Mung Bean and Yam Cake. It has a few special ingredients that are very good for the body.”

She hadn’t had much time to prepare and had to rush to carve makeshift pastry molds out of whatever was available. Fortunately, the kitchen in the house they were staying in was still partially functional, allowing her to make do.

She had genuinely wanted to make something nice to express her gratitude to the village. The shapes might have been a bit rough, but after steaming, they smelled wonderful and were soft enough for the elderly villagers to eat comfortably.

“It certainly looks like the good stuff! Let me have a taste!” The man took a bite and his eyes widened. “Mmm! Delicious!”

Hearing this, more and more people quickly gathered around. Pei Xiqing could barely hand out the pastries fast enough.

The crowd grew eager. A few tall, muscular men reached out a bit too aggressively, nearly bumping into her in their excitement to grab a piece.

Before they could make contact, Duan Xiaolin smoothly raised a hand, forming an invisible barrier that kept them back and prevented her from being knocked over.

He slowly raised his eyes, casting a light, glacial glance over the overeager men.

The tall, dark-skinned villagers immediately froze, a terrifying chill shooting straight down their spines. They hurriedly stepped back, scratching their heads in deep embarrassment, not daring to act so recklessly again.

“Sorry, sorry,” they mumbled awkwardly. They were so used to being loud and unrestrained in the village that they had almost forgotten that Brother Duan was a formidable outsider.

“We are just so touched by Miss Pei’s thoughtfulness,” an older woman chimed in. “To taste something so delicious… Can you only find pastries like this in the outside world? My daughter brought me something similar once, and it was so good. I heard it takes a lot of patience to make. The only downside is that it’s too expensive.”

“It really is delicious! Miss Pei’s cooking skills are incredible!” another agreed. “Even if the shape is a bit plain, the taste is out of this world!”

Pei Xiqing smiled warmly. “Thank you all.”

“Miss Pei, you have to make more of these for us in the future! It’s so good! Who would have thought we’d get to eat something like this in our little village.”

Duan Xiaolin casually draped his arm around Pei Xiqing’s shoulders, subtly pushing back the encroaching crowd. “It wasn’t much,” he said coolly. “This is simply a small token of her appreciation. Nothing more.”

It was a clear, undeniable rejection.

Pei Xiqing certainly hadn’t planned on making them a regular supply anyway. The ingredients were incredibly difficult to source in the apocalypse, and the preparation process was extremely time-consuming.

Recognizing the dismissal, the villagers could only smile awkwardly and back off.

Just then, someone noticed Ma Mengxiang standing at the edge of the crowd. “Xiao Ma, you’re finally back! Brother Duan was kind enough to come to our dinner. Why don’t you come over and say hello?”

Ma Mengxiang cautiously raised her eyes. When she met Pei Xiqing’s bright, smiling gaze, she was slightly taken aback. A dark trace of envy—and intense jealousy—sprouted in her heart.

Seeing her from a distance had been one thing; up close, the disparity was crushing. Ma Mengxiang suddenly felt acutely aware that there was absolutely no comparison between them.

Pei Xiqing kindly extended her hand. “Hello.”

She looked curiously at the young woman standing in front of her, who seemed to be around her own age. Ma Mengxiang had a delicate, simple appearance. Her skin was a bit rough, and her lips were severely chapped and peeling from the elements. Yet, compared to the older villagers who had spent their lives toiling in the fields, she was considered quite well-maintained.

Ma Mengxiang hadn’t expected her to initiate a handshake. Flustered, she quickly wiped her sweaty palms on her dirty clothes before taking Pei Xiqing’s hand. “Hello.”

“…!” Pei Xiqing suppressed a wince. She hadn’t expected the girl’s grip to be so aggressively tight that it actually hurt her fingers.

Completely oblivious to the pain she was causing, Ma Mengxiang stared at her and asked bluntly, “What’s wrong with you?”

Chapter 186: Don’t Guess

As expected of someone accustomed to regular physical labor, Ma Mengxiang’s grip strength was so impressive that Pei Xiqing couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy.

If she possessed that kind of strength, she might actually be able to pin Duan Xiaolin down and strip him of his chances to bully her every single day.

“I’m Pei Xiqing,” she said with a warm smile, gently pulling her hand back. “What’s your name? It’s wonderful to meet you.”

Ma Mengxiang murmured, “Pei Xiqing… that’s a nice name. I’m Ma Mengxiang. You can call me Mengxiang or Xiao Ma, that’s what everyone in the village calls me.”

“Alright, Mengxiang. By the way, were you the one who dropped off the food and fruit for us recently?”

“That wasn’t me, that was my cousin. She isn’t here yet,” Ma Mengxiang replied. “But she should be arriving soon. She always takes her time getting ready.” She quickly added, “I did bring you some firewood over the last few days, though. Did you see it? I chopped it fresh from the mountain. It catches fire really well, definitely enough for you to cook with.”

“I see. Thank you, and thank everyone else for taking such good care of us lately.” Pei Xiqing offered her a piece of the pastry. “I don’t have any valuable gifts to offer, but please take this as a small token of my appreciation. I hope you like it.”

Ma Mengxiang took the cake, noticing its soft and slightly sticky texture. It didn’t look particularly fancy, but it smelled incredibly fragrant. She immediately broke into a smile. “I don’t mind at all! You’re the first person our village has rescued who actually gave us a gift in return.”

As she spoke, she seemed to recall an unpleasant memory. The corners of her mouth turned down in disgust. “Let me tell you, we saved some people a while back, and those guys just wanted to take over our village. Forget about gifts—they wouldn’t even lift a finger to chop firewood for us in exchange for staying here. Good thing we didn’t expect much from them anyway.”

“Is that so…”

“Yeah.” Ma Mengxiang took a bite of the pastry. “It’s a good thing we drove them away. We don’t really know what’s going on out there in the outside world. Anyway, the folks who managed to return said there are tons of zombies and monsters out there now—the man-eating kind, just like in the stories.”

“That’s true,” Pei Xiqing agreed softly.

“It sounds terrifying. Luckily, we never leave.”

Pei Xiqing took a moment to look around. The village was completely encircled by towering mountains and jagged rock formations that overlapped layer by layer, creating a natural fortress. It was like an isolated island, sealed off from the rest of the world, nestled securely against the peaks and the river. This impregnable geography was likely the main reason they had remained untouched by the apocalypse.

Looking up, Pei Xiqing could even see countless wooden coffins suspended high up on the sheer cliffs of the surrounding mountains, a haunting and ancient funerary tradition.

Ma Mengxiang followed her gaze and explained, “Those are the ancestral tombs of our village. When our people pass away, they are laid to rest up there.”

Hearing this, several nearby villagers clasped their hands together, facing the hanging coffins with pious expressions. “It must be our ancestors protecting us,” an older villager murmured reverently. “They are the ones keeping those monsters at bay. It’s their spirits watching over us. As long as we stay here, the zombies won’t find us, and we won’t be eaten.”

Many others echoed the sentiment, bowing respectfully toward the cliffs.

Since it was the resting place of their ancestors, even if their protection was just a superstition, it still commanded the utmost respect.

Suddenly, Pei Xiqing heard the man beside her let out a low chuckle. She turned to him, puzzled. “What are you laughing at?”

Duan Xiaolin narrowed his eyes playfully. “Guess.”

“I don’t want to guess. Just tell me.”

She tugged at his sleeve, slightly wrinkling the fabric. He leaned in and murmured slowly, “Is it possible that this place hasn’t been infected by zombies simply because there are things here far more terrifying than them?”

Pei Xiqing deadpanned, “Telling ghost stories isn’t funny.”

The man wrapped an arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. “It’s just a joke.”

In truth, he would never have chosen a dangerous location for her to recuperate. He had thoroughly secured the area before letting her stay.

Pei Xiqing breathed a sigh of relief and muttered, “So annoying.”

“Perhaps it really is just the geographical advantage,” he added smoothly, his tone intriguing. “Do you want to live here permanently?”

“I do,” Pei Xiqing admitted. “It’s so beautiful.”

Even though it couldn’t quite compare to the scenic tourist spots she had visited before transmigrating into this novel, finding a sanctuary like this in the apocalypse was incredibly rare. She couldn’t bear the thought of leaving so soon; she wanted to stay a little longer.

Overhearing them, the villagers immediately chimed in. “That’s wonderful! You can stay as long as you like! Brother Duan is our savior. Whatever you need, we’ll do our best to provide it!”

Ma Mengxiang hesitated before asking, “Um… what is the outside world actually like? I’m honestly so curious. Also… Brother Duan, Sister Pei, what did you do out there before coming here?”

Pei Xiqing glanced up, silently asking the man with her eyes: You didn’t tell them?

Duan Xiaolin gave a barely imperceptible shake of his head.

“We’re just ordinary merchants doing business,” Pei Xiqing lied smoothly. “It was just an accident that led us here.”

“Merchants… We used to have people from the village who went out to do business, but they haven’t come back in a very long time. We don’t even know if they’re still alive. It’s such a pity,” Ma Mengxiang said, lowering her head sadly.

“Mengxiang, what are you doing over there?” a voice suddenly called out from behind.

Ma Mengxiang turned around and glared at the newcomer. “Cousin, you’re finally here. Weren’t you the one obsessing over whether Brother Duan was going to show up? And yet you’re still late… you…”

She trailed off as she took in Ma Mengjia’s appearance.

Ma Mengjia was wearing her absolute best red dress. Her skin looked bright and carefully powdered, and she was walking over with a radiant, eager smile.

The moment she saw Duan Xiaolin, she immediately hurried forward. A bashful flush spread across her cheeks as her fingers nervously pinched the handle of the woven basket she carried.

“Duan… Brother Duan… you’re here,” she stammered coyly. “I thought… I thought you wouldn’t come. I’ve been waiting for you for so long, and you’re finally here.”

She held up her basket. “I prepared a lot of delicious food just for you… I really didn’t expect you to actually show up. When I stopped by your house earlier, you said you weren’t going to attend.”

The man replied flatly, “My wife wanted to come take a look.”

“…”

A thick silence fell over the girl.

Ma Mengjia finally turned her head, noticing the woman standing right beside him. Seeing Pei Xiqing greeting her with a polite smile, Ma Mengjia’s expression stiffened completely.

Pei Xiqing raised her eyebrows slightly, her breathtaking beauty carrying a faint, knowing edge. “Hello.”

“So you are Brother Duan’s… wife,” Ma Mengjia managed to squeeze out.

“That would be me,” Pei Xiqing smiled, offering a casual compliment. “You look very pretty tonight.”

Ma Mengjia subconsciously touched her carefully made-up face, blushing even deeper. “Oh, no, I’m not…”

But in that brief moment when their eyes met, Pei Xiqing saw exactly what was hiding beneath the girl’s shy demeanor—shame, bitter disappointment, and a distinctly impure sense of desire.
